Extras, Extras

I get emails all the time from fans who want to be on GAME OF THRONES.

Here's your chance. The call has gone out for extras for season three.

Of course, it helps if you actually live in Northern Ireland.

Or the Republic of Ireland.

Or Scotland or England or the Isle of Man... y'know, someplace where you can actually get to the shoot. If you're in South Africa, Brazil, or Japan, your chances of getting a call are not good, alas.

On the other hand, if you're a bearded long-haired amputee from Derry, you should be gold.

That would be so much fun!! I'm not even remotely local. I suppose my kids and I will have to settle for dressing up as Game of Thrones characters next Halloween!

Ah, so close yet so far! I live in England yet cannot afford to go to NI!

What is this referencing?

Re: Bearded long-haired amputee from Derry
It's traditional in fantasy projects to hire someone with a missing limb as they can then wear a fake arm or leg and have it hacked off in a battle scene to make it look more impressive and realistic. They did this quite a lot in the LotR movies.

Being in Derry (a city in Northern Ireland) merely means you're close enough to the casting office to get the job :-)

new book "sohn des greifen" in germany :-(

there will be an uproar i guess because of the translation for the latest german books (released today).

the transalation SUX.... im pi%$ed to be honest!!!

im a reader from the first minute but the new book is going back to amazone. :(

im really angry. after 8 books (they split books in germany) they changed the names of places and characters.
after 8 books.. what the hell?

for 8 books they used the english names for characters and places and now they used names i sometimes can´t even make sense of.

hell this is a great deal of the world a reader dives into.. and for me it´s completely destroyed because of the translation. :(

i hope you hear from more angry german readers... the ratings at amazon does not look good right now because of the translation.

the book is great.. i read the english original.. but this is a MESS!!!

Re: new book "sohn des greifen" in germany :-(
I feel ye, bro. When I first read the portuguese translation, I stopped for a moment trying to remember who the hell is Gilly, because they called her . Also Littlefinger, Penny, and few others, quite ridiculous.
Locations are also confusing. Winterfell, Harrenhal and the free cities are the only ones not translated, iirc.

hello mr martin,

me again... ;)

i don´t know if you have any influence on the publisher.
but i think you should know that MANY of your fans in germany are very upset about this!!

we (a group of fans) are thinking about writting a open letter to the publisher and making a web petition against the translation.

Not exactly on the subject – but I thought it might amuse you.
My cousin is an Elementary School teach in New York and slightly addicted to the HBO series. I say slightly because she’s got that whole “nice, middle class lady” vibe going and from time to time she has a fit over something that happens to one of the characters, shuts down for a week in shock or two then picks the series back up on HBO because she has to find out what happened.

What is really funny ( to me) is she won’t read your books yet because it may ruin the series for her! Every time I offer to buy her the set she ignores me.

So do you ever wonder how many tens of thousands of people your HBO team is doing this to on a weekly basis? :<)

its soo stupid that we can't sign up on the site if we're not somewhere from UK or Ireland. I live in Croatia where they shoot the king's Landing scenes, to be exact in Dubrovnik and I cant get even a chance..I even let my hair and beard grow long hoping that maybe I could get an opportunity

Re: :/
Just letting you know, I think you misunderstood. This is a Northern Irish casting agency.

When you sign up, you arn't saying "I want to be in Game of Thrones!" you are saying "I would like to work for this NI based casting agency, and work where it offers me to do so." If you want to get work in Croatia to be an extra, I recommend you contact the local casting agency/s there!

For all intents and purposes, this isn't "stupid" it just has nothing to do with casting the King's Landing scenes. The site posted isn't something you go to in order to say you want to be in GoT and you throw them your location, it's to say you want to work for the NI company that finds Belfast extras. This would never have anything to do with the King's Landing scenes!

Good luck!

A Hello From Your Youngest Fan (I Think)
Hello Mr Martin.
I am an eleven year old boy who very avidly reads and admires your series. I am just writing this comment to say that no matter how long it takes you to write each book, if the quality of the books stays the same I will wait any length of time needed for you to write the book.

I would also like to say thank you, for bringing into this world such a realistic and gritty series. Keep up the quality, and I'm with ya all the way.

I hope this comment is "Not A Comment" and I hope you see this sometime. If you would like to contact me, please email me at josiahmorgan11@gmail.com

Thank you,
Josiah Morgan

Re: A Hello From Your Youngest Fan (I Think)
Aren't you too young to read a song of ice and fire????or even watch the tv series ??? I mean the books deal with some heavy adult related stuff

We will be returning to Croatia, I believe... but it will be a different agency that provides extras there. Sorry, don't know their details.

You should probably edit this post - NI Extras are refusing to accept anybody who does not live in Northern Ireland or in the Republic of Ireland. As such, people like myself in England, willing and able to travel, are being told they cannot apply.

I can confirm this as someone living in Northern England and who applied and was rejected - it may even be Northern Ireland only and not the Republic

The luck of the Irish strikes once again!

I am hoping this will be a fun summer excursion! I'm tall, slim, sort of good-looking (I'm told) and with rather long hair. As a dude, that seems sort of medievaly enough to get me on this!

My dad is six foot 5, 250 lbs or therabouts, bearded, and a former Rugby Player. and we are both Game of Thrones obsessed. And we live in Ireland.

I reckon one or both of us will be able to make it onto the show!!

Perfect news to begin my day, Hallelujah! I honestly have a very good shot at landing a spot, given my medieval "Santa" like appearance. According to my five-year old grand-niece, anyway.

How sad, Master Martin, I'm from Brazil, so that does not have the talent to act. In the series has a Brazilian son of Robert Lysa Arryn (or Tully). Congratulations for the magnificent history, my daily addiction.

S3 New Characters
Mr Martin, any chance Euron Greyjoy will be introduced in season 3 or is it far too early for him? The actor who comes to mind for that role is British actor Richard Armitage. He's currently wrapping up his role as Thorin in Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT, but should be free for a new one sometime in June.

Armitage has often expressed his preference for complicated characters. In fact, he's played a string of them over the years, from rogue MI5 agent, Lucas North (Spooks)to Guy of Gisborne(BBC,3 series). The actor most definitely fulfills the physical description of Euron as well.

National Insurance Number
Hmmm I've came across this before, but in the Republic we don't actually have National Insurance numbers, we have PPSNs. My dreams are dashed:O

Re: National Insurance Number
NI Extras accept PPSNs - they've said so on their facebook page as another Irish extra asked.
