Hate Dem Cowboys

Well, the 2012 NFL season got off to a start with a resounding thud tonight, as my beloved New York Football Giants lost their opening game to the hated Dallas Cowboys.

The key factor seemed to be the depleted New York secondary, which wasn't able to cope with Dallas's third-string wide receiver... especially after our fourth-string cornerback went down and had to be replaced by our fifth-string cornerback.

How the hell our secondary can be down to its fifth string in the first bloody game of the season passes all understanding. I know that injuries are a big part of football, but the Giants always seem to suffer a rash of losses before the season even begins. sigh

Victor Cruz dropping all those passes did not help either. I love you, Victor... but maybe less salsa dancing and more practice in the off-season would have been wise.

Big Blue's running game looked just as anemic as it did last season. Our vaunted first round draft choice, Virginia Tech RB David Wilson, fumbled the first time he touched the damn ball. Coughlin did not seem eager for him to touch it again thereafter.

Perhaps the Jets will redeem things on Sunday, when Rex finally unveils the explosive O he has been hiding all preseason. (Hah)

There's a reason I use this LJ icon for football posts... :-)

In any case, I'm just hoping the Jets defense decides to show up - for your sake as well as mine. Nothing much, just an interception return for a TD, or maybe a kick or punt return for the same. That's not asking too much, is it?

Things are right in the world...
Your literature does a fabulous job of blurring the lines between good vs. evil in relationship to our humanity, but sometimes in life, the Good Guys win...

Go Cowboys !!!!

P.S... Please don't be so upset about this game that you kill another Stark... Pretty please???

Y'know.. during the no training camp summer last year Victor and Eli practiced on their own at Hoboken HS. Something tells me that those reps really helped.

Tough loss, but...
The Giants seemed closer to their 7-7 version, not the super bowl winning clutch version.

The Cowboys might've turned the corner, when Romo stops beating himself, but it's only week 1.

Re: bbc
The basics of football are easy to learn. The tactics seem to change by generation though. Most teams would wear down the opponent's defense by running the ball consistenly and going to the air to complement their offensive.

Now it is a QB'S league everything revolves around the air. A good QB can last 4-6 strong seasons in the NFL, as opposed to a stud RB who have shorter careers from the constant injuries.

I personally enjoy defense in all sports. If you are similar here are some of the franchises that have always had a defensive philosophy:

Pittsburgh Steelers
Chicago Bears
N.Y. Giants
Philadelphia Eagles
Baltimore Ravens
New England Patriots (not as well known through history for consistent defensive teams, but defense/Brady won their 3 championships)

Atleast you were in a commercial!
If you noticed amazon had a new ad showing off their new kindle. Twenty seconds in, the user is looking up, "A Game of Thrones" on amazon. I thought it was cool, and I'm pretty sure the Giants were losing at that point. So if you caught it you probably felt a little better.

As for the game, there were too many missed opportunities by the Giants offense. Like you mentioned the costly fumble on their second drive, dropped balls by Giant receivers, and only one TD from three red zone appearances.

But the game changing play of the night was that horse collar penalty during the interception return. Dallas preventing that pick-six was a heads up penalty.

You are right. That was painful and it isn't like they didn't have chances to even up the the score. But if they can't defend, then this is a season with little hope.

But on the brightside, there was football on last night.

Hey George,

Sorry to hear about your Giants, but as a life-long Texan, I have to be proud of the fact that Dallas is finally fielding what looks to be a playoff worthy team. Things can change during the season, but right now I don't see how Dallas can lose their division. (although I'm sure they will find a way late in the season...)

I was wondering if you were watching the game. Giants did not look inspiring.

I feel for you... but not too much...
Really wish I could sympathize, but hee... hee... hee... (can't stand the Giants).

I will sympathize with you on the Jets because I don't mind them at all and they are going to lose really bad...

Maybe you can take all this anger and channel it into Cersei's final chapter (preferably the prologue of Book 6)

jets will be terrible this year, if they win 6 games I'll be surprised.

Giants won't be much better at 9-7 and won't make it to the post season.

Patriots will make it all the way baby!

Sorry ...
... bout your Giants. Glad the Boys could come into their house and steal a win this year.

It's still early and anything can happen. Worry about those pesky Beagles, they've been awfully quiet this preseason.
