Emmy Day

Just had brunch. Now I get to watch a couple hours of football, before it's time to put on the Monkey Suit and hop in the limo for the Emmy Award Shuffle.

GAME OF THRONES is one of six nominess in Best Dramatic Series, and all Hollywood agrees that we are the longest shot of the six. Vegas puts the odds against us at 50-1 (still time to get down your bets). Others put it more succcinctly: it will be snowing in hell before the Academy gives the "big one" to a fantasy or SF show.

But we shall see. It's am honot to be nominated, and the HBO party will be the best in town, regardless of who wins the award.

CRoss your fingers, uncross your legs, and light an offering to your favorite deity.

Maybe this series will be the one the Academy has to acknowledge simply because it's that good? Yeah, I don't buy it either, but it never hurts to dream, and such a victory would taste that much sweeter. Best of luck to you and to the cast and crew of Game of Thrones!

Game of Thrones WINS for ME!!
Best of luck GrrM and the team of GoT!! I of course want you guys to win. Just know if you guys do not win best series at the Emmy's you're DEFINITELY winning the BEST series to US FANS!! And we're not a few.
Also, if you guys don't win the BEST Costumes and Production design they're just blatantly telling us, it's rigged.

Crossing fingers for you :)
Sep. 23rd, 2012 08:06 pm (UTC)
Someone must be betting on GOT because Vegas has the odds at 9-1 now. Breaking Bad is a bigger long shot.
Sep. 23rd, 2012 07:37 pm (UTC)
I think future seasons surely have a good chance, it's time for the industry to recognise SF/F on TV as well.
Sep. 23rd, 2012 07:51 pm (UTC)
Best wishes!
and good luck. It is a shock to see them scan the audience and see people you actually know all dressed up and there!

Wish I was there but all my good thoughts are with GoT!

Good Luck!
Praying to the seven to win them all!

Well even if GOT doesn't win an emmy tonight George that OT win for your Jets was about the most insane end I've ever seen. Miami misses easy FG for the win AND your call a time out when your Jets FG for the win is blocked. Unbelievable luck there enjoy that win wow

When you play the games of awards...
You either win, or stay cool.

Meaning, it's perhaps a little more preferred to stay just on the outside, right near the lunatic fringe but within full respects of fans and critics alike.

By the way, thanks for appearing on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Now my wife knows who you are. She knows I read your books, and saw one scene of Game of Thrones On HBO. She walked in on the 'inferred' baby killing, and then walked away. You won her back, however.

And the winner is...
Win or lose, we all know what the best dramatic series is. But the accolades would be nice too...

Martin still has claws
I bet Vegas put the odds against the Lannisters at 50-1 before the battle of the blackwater too.

Hope GoT wins!!The series definitely deserves it and, as a fantasy fan myself, it's high time the Academy did right by the fantasy genre, hehe!;)

Enjoy the event and the party!:D

You're right about awards and spec fic. They may get special effects awards, costumes, maybe makeup, but that's all. Almost never for acting(though, actually, your show DID get an acting award!). On the other hand, look at all the Oscars LOTR got - but it was for the third film. It took a buildup. Fingers crossed for you.

True honor does not consist in winning prizes, but in deserving them. The way I see it, you are a winner already, man!

Best of luck, George!

Good Luck!
Good luck! I know the odds don't look too good, but I'm still rooting for you! We all know that Game of Thrones is the best show on television, regardless of what the Academy believes. :)
Sep. 23rd, 2012 11:55 pm (UTC)
Wishing you, the cast, and the crew the best of luck for a win. If Return of the King can do it, I'm certain Game of Thrones will have their day as well!

This is literally the first time I have watched the Emmy Awards all the way through. I've got my hopes pinned on GoT! Best of luck to you and to all involved. It's truly a wonderful show.

poor Alfie !
Dear Mr Martin.

That's the first time I talk to you. In fact, I never was on heroic-fantsay mood, but a friend speak so enthousiasticly about GoT that I had watch the 2 seasons in 2 days. And 5mn after the last episode, I go buy the books !

First, let me give you my grateful thank ! The world you create is wonderful and so detailed. I love too the fact that there is more history and politics than magic.

(even if i'm very afraid of the future of the kingdom. There's too much signs wich tend to prove than the targaryan party will win against MY favorite king, aka Stannis. (by exemple, the fact that stannis's sword is not hot). But anyway, I will continue to support Stannis.

And Theon, too ! The way Crassen considered Theon is so unfair to me. Dishonored? WTF?? He's not a Stark but a Greyjoy. Having sweet conditions in winterfell? So what? He remains an ostage. Treason against Robb ? So what? He had to choice between robb and his FATHER, his COUNTRY, his PEOPLE. No disgrace in this choice. And he had try to invade humanly the north.

I would like to create a rehabilitation comitee for Theon Greyjoy of Pike, King of the Iron Isles and Lord of Winterfell !

(and a party for support Stannis for King too ^^)

Anyway, once again, a great TANK for you, Mr Martin !

(yes, the title of those lines are "poor alfie". Because he deserved the emmy, for his perfom on the baptist scene, by one exemple in a lot)

Others put it more succcinctly: it will be snowing in hell before the Academy gives the "big one" to a fantasy or SF show.

The Others already have influence in the Academy??? I see a cold winter ahead of us indeed...

Game of Thrones should have won--no other show comes close.

"it will be snowing in hell before the Academy gives the "big one" to a fantasy or SF "

That's what they said about Lord of the Rings...

Good luck, break a leg, or whatever you say to someone going to an award show! : )

Hope you had fun. I gotta say, as much as I liked Homeland, putting it ahead of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey seems like a bit of a stretch.

don't fret
Game of Thrones got nominated. That should be good. The very best shows never actually win. The great shows Boss and Community never even got nominated.

Coming to the party late...
I'm not surprised that GoT didn't win because of that whole "fantasy doesn't count" thing, but I am surprised Peter Dinklage didn't win because awesome acting is awesome acting.

Snowing in Hell?
"Others put it more succcinctly: it will be snowing in hell before the Academy gives the "big one" to a fantasy or SF show."

If there's one thing I know, it's that winter is coming. Even to Hell. Maybe not this year, but snow it will. ;)

P.S. Also, I never get the snowing in Hell references. Hel was always a cold place, at least up here in the north. Just ask Loki. ;)
