Special Edition Inside Game of Thrones

ty
Is selling on Amazon right now for $90 off the list price. Looks like it's available at that price for about ten more hours.

http://www.amazon.com/Inside-HBOs-Game-Thrones-Collectors/dp/1612185738/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1352842549&sr=1-3&keywords=bryan+cogman

Amazon description: "This spectacular collector’s edition includes a lavishly illustrated book on the making of the show, scrolled maps, plus an artist’s portfolio featuring never-before-seen storyboards, all housed in a handsome gold-stamped case.

The book reveals how the best-selling fantasy series was translated into a series that has captivated millions of viewers. It includes hundreds of unpublished set photos, production and costume designs, plus family trees, a dissection of the Dothraki language, and histories of the realms. Interviews with actors and crew members, as well as a foreword by George R.R. Martin, make this an exclusive window into the show.

The storyboards portfolio shows how comic book artist Will Simpson singlehandedly storyboarded seasons one and two and features deleted scenes and alternate scenes. Storyboards are seldom made public, so this collection is as rare as it is fascinating.

Completing the package are maps of Westeros and Esos. Fans will recognize the maps from the HBO Go bonus material for Season 2. Printed on archival, acid-free paper, and ready for framing, these maps bring the world of Game of Thrones to life."

We have one here at the office, and it's beautiful. Bryan Cogman did a fabulous job putting together this insider's look at the production of the show, and the extras that come with this special edition are top notch.

If you've been coveting one of these but the price tag scared you off, then this is your chance to pick it up for less than half the sticker price.

The Daily Show
I know those is not exactly related to thus thread, bit on tonight's installment (Nov. 14) of "The Daily Show", Jon Stewart was in the middle of his monologue about the whole Petraeus incident, and he referred you and Stephen King...pretty funny...just watch to see what it's all about...your popularity continues to grow! LOL...

Re: The Daily Show
Yes, I saw that as well. There were like 3,000 pages of emails, and his reference was that only a Stephen King, George R.R. Martin discussion could be that long.

Honestly, Mr. Martin,
are you really ok with all this shameless merchandising? Doesn't this make you just a little bit uncomfortable?

respectfully,
a (very) loyal reader.

Re: Honestly, Mr. Martin,
No, not really. Most of the fans love it. Those that don't... well, it's not as though they are obligated to buy anything they don't want. And merchandising is a big part of promotion for any film or television show.

Well said. A polite response to a rude question.

Advice on a unique Game of Thrones gift for my husband-to-be?
Hi there, I'm so sorry to ask on here, but I wasn't sure where to start in my quest, and thought this could be a good place! My fiance Ben and I are getting married next May (in West Sussex, UK) and I would absolutely love to give him a completely unique gift, something to show how much he means to me. He started reading the Game of Thrones books way back in about 2003 (or thereabouts), and introduced me to them 5 years ago. We have enjoyed them (and the HBO series) SO much, so it seemed a perfect theme for a present! Ben & I have had a truly tough year (through bereavement of a close friend and family illness), and I'd like to represent my thanks to him in a really awesome way...so I was thinking, perhaps if any fans out there know of some great phrases that I could paint/print (am I allowed to do that? If I don't sell it?!), or a particularly symbolic place that could be drawn as a map...something that represents strength & love...I would really appreciate any advice/help! If I can help with anything in return, or pay it forward by helping someone else, I will :) Thanks! Ali x

The REAL insider question I have ...
Both within the books' world and within the series production:

Who dusts the Iron Throne?

I admit, you may have covered it within the books and I haven't gotten to it yet. I bet it's a hereditary job, with generations of people losing fingers along the way. There may well be more of their blood in the impossible-to-reach bits than that of any warriors.

Of course, on the show's set, it's less dangerous. One hopes.
