World of Ice and Fire App

So the official George and his publisher approved World of Ice and Fire app is available. I can attest to the fact that he personally worked on this project, because I sat and took notes as we went over hundreds of questions on random Ice and Fire arcana. No, it didn't delay Winds of Winter. I made him do it while he ate lunch. Yes, he complains when I make him work during lunch.

The most iPhone literate person in our office had this to say after playing with the app for a while:

Any plans for a version for those of us on the more robotically inclined mobile platform, or is this strictly for the orchard frolicking folk?

(Is it coming for Android is what I'm saying. ;))

The Nook has it's own proprietary store. No other Android based device can access it. I think she's talking the Google Play store the rest of us use. :D

Awesome! I think I'll pick it up for my Nook. But, then again I don't want to stop reading on my Nook to look up info so it'll probably be better to get it on my iPhone.

FYI, HUGE spoiler in the Castamere listing. I have only downloaded the free version so far and admittedly did not set any of the spoiler blocking settings, but I would expect the default content to be as spoiler free as possible. I would certainly expect it not to spoil this plot point, it's a bad one to sneak through.

Beautiful art and GUI though.

I think this app deserves to be cross-platforms (Android, but also Windows Phone) and cross-countries too (you have a lot of fans all around the world who'd wish to access this, even in its English form ;)).

It's prettier. Lots of nice art. But it's not so in-depth as the Citadel or the Wiki of Ice and Fire, no. It's a companion guide for reading the books, and can be very convenient, especially as it works offline.

That said, it's very much aimed to a particular segment of the readership. It's not necessarily meant for those who prefer using Westeros.org to look things up, or who are really hardcore fans. There's some new information in there, but mostly it's just a concise way of presenting character and location information.

LOVE IT!!

I just downloaded the app yesterday. My personal Mac IT guy (AKA my Husband) sent me the app as soon as he saw it and NOW I just bought all 4 books for the special discounted price of $5 for all 5 books. YAY!!! This will be fun to peruse!

Why Nook?

The Nooks run Android, don't they? So why release an Android app on a closed store for a device that appears to be unavailable outside of America?

Or have B&N paid for an exclusive period?

Would you let us know when those outside of B&N's walled garden and the US will be allowed to buy it, please?

Hi folks,

No plans presently for an Android version, but that may change depending on demand and interest, we've been told. So far as we know, the same holds for Windows Phone. (And no, we don't think Symbian is ever going to happen.)

I believe it's available in the UK iTunes store as well as the US store. I'm not sure when/if it will be released to other markets.
