Cool!
Nice to see some footage. I see Mance, Edmure, Dondarrion, the Reeds, Jaime and Brienne fighting, and the Unsullied. I like Dinklage's scar.

Re: Cool!
Hmm I on the other hand thought it was the only uncool part of the video... I mean, his head was slashed at full force with a sword, in the book he loses half a nose!! That looks like a scratch with a tree branch.

Re: Cool!
at least they did anything. dagmer cleftjaw's makeover was pathetic. hopefully, for what they lacked in tyrion's scar they'll put into a certain character's....arm...

March 26th and 31st. The week of ASOIAF.
First the release of a new TWOW chapter. Then on Sunday the season premiere.

So excited for the latter after seeing this promo, but we would all be more excited for the former if you gave us an early Christmas gift.

Maybe you can tell us which POV character we'll be reading from TWOW chapter that will come out 3/26 in the ADWD paperback edition.

Hooray!
Meera!! So very happy to see the Reeds, such a relief!

I had doubts about Diana Rigg as Olenna Tyrell, but the costuming makes it perfection. i love being proved wrong sometimes!

....but, no Sansa that I could see... :(

Well, we know there will be plenty of Sansa. The books tell it so. :) I can't watch too many teasers sometimes, or I wax nostalgic for the HBO Game of Thrones series and that's not productive. I patiently await with a quiet excitement for March 31st. Time for me to start reading a Dance with Dragons now too....OR...I might reread ASOS & AFOC, THEN ADWD. So many options to enter an escape into Westeros.

I came only to say that just finished A Dance with Dragons (Danza de dragones en mi idioma :D) and you are becoming my favorite writer. Keep the good work.

By the way, great new season promo. Expecting it :D

Looking great. Lucky for me summer is only beggining and I'm mostly waiting for TWOW, but I'll forget about book and series while wishing this summmer lasts forever. I love when this happens, La Pedrera is so awesome. So are westeros stories.
The crannogfolk appear at last, and the great King beyond the wall. This WILL get interesting.
Hope The Queen of thorns gets as scheming and dramatic as the book.

So, the real question for this season: Will HBO finally see the light and provide a way for GoT's fans to watch the season and support the series without paying Comcast's extortion fees.

To be clear, I have no problem paying HBO whatever they want for GoT. Through Comcast, I pay them an additional $10/month (not all of which gets to them, I'm sure). If I had to, I would pay $60/month direct to HBO.
However, I will NOT pay Comcast $50+$10/month for (lousy) service that I don't want or need, just to get access to HBO's content. I'm sure many other Comcast-hating fans will make a similar choice.

Comcast is cable, yes?

If you don't want cable, go satellite.

I'm with DirecTV myself, and love the service. Not only do I get HBO, I get NFL Season Ticket.

Yes, Comcast is cable.

The problem is that I have no actual interest in traditional TV. I'm not remotely interested in 140 digital channels. I watch all my entertainment on a projector-connected computer. The content comes to me digitally, so I don't actually need the extra hardware of a cable box or satellite dish. I watch my series through iTunes and through Netflix rental, which allows me to watch what I want, when I want, and pay for what I want to watch, rather than buying a package full of something useless to me.

I am more than happy to pay for entertainment that interests me, and I want to financially support great shows and the people who make them. But I'm not interested in buying bundles full of features I don't want or need, and I'm not interested in supporting the utility monopsony. However, as the market is currently structured, I have the choice of doing both, or doing neither.

Note that this exact same issue is a dilemma not just for me, but for essentially all my friends. We're all early-middle-aged, overeducated professionals who are also hardcore SF/fantasy fans and diehard ASoF fans. We're the sort of evangelists who tell everyone we know about the series (books and TV both).

And we don't have a lot of patience for the parasitic middlemen which constitute most of the traditional content distribution system. Granted, these middlemen were once an essential part of the ecosystem, but the need for them is greatly diminished in the modern era. Yet they persist, largely by controlling access to highly desirable properties like GoT, and bundling them with stuff that many of their customers just don't want.

What HBO needs to understand is that there are a lot of people who are in this position, and we are some of your most fanatic fans. They should want to give us what we want - it's in their direct short-term and long-term best interest.

^

Here in Canada, satellite is (best) provided by Bell...and they're doing Fiber Optic TV, dubbed 'Fibe'. Satellite & DVR is a good combination, as you get time shifting PLUS can record the shows. I think I prefer DVR over 'on demand' services. Plus I find the signal & quality is superior, even with the regular basic channels.

Accessing HBO
I so agree. HBO needs to get out of the dark ages and stream their shows direct over the internet. I don't own a television and I have no interest in buying any other TV shows other than GoT, so why should I have to buy Extended Cable just to buy HBO just to watch GoT? I would gladly pay HBO for the 10 (or 12) show run every year, but I do not want to have to buy access to a bunch of TV channels I don't have any interest in.

Come on HBO, sell access to the show per episode or for the run, you would make a pile of money from us TV-free folks.

I first saw this posted while I was browsing the internet in my living room (laptop). Other family members were watching the tv, and I had earphones in. I screamed out OH MY GOSH I THINK I SEE BERIC DONDARRION AND THE BROTHERHOOD WITHOUT BANNERS AND OH MY GOSH I THINK I'M GOING TO DIE OF ANTICIPATION.

I *JUST* finished reading A Storm of Swords (absolutely amazing, one of the best books I've read - and I read a LOT), and now I'm into A Feast for Crows.

The last time I was this excited about a book series was when Harry Potter was coming out and I was but a teen.

I cannot express in words my love for A Song of Ice and Fire.

HBO Subscribed
I just subscribed to HBO to get ready for Season 3! I love your books and this show has been incredibly engaging. The casting was very well done. Rarely do I feel that a show or movie really captures characters as they appear in text, but that is definitely happening here. Please keep up the great work!
