Apologies
It's with great respect that I leave this here:

Hail to the Redskins!

I am right there with ya
I feel your pain Mr. Martin! Die hard Giants fan here and it's the same story every year! Hopefully we can sneak in again.

an understatement
I know this is your usual comment for a loss but for this game it is quite the understatment.

Ateast one thing would make you happy
The forces of Good(known by most as the Patriots) fell on Sunday Night to the 49ers. Things went poorly from the start and it looked like it would be a true drubbing of the good guys with dropped passes and fumbles and the interceptions...

But then, in depths of the third, a spark of light ignited in the hearts of our heroes! A brave young knight known as Ser Danny of House Woodhead began to hammer the ball with all his strength. When all seemed lost, a single touchdown! The joy rose above the seeming futility of it all, we would not go quietly into that good night! Then, the legend rose from his slumber! Ser Tom drove down the field, and on fourth and goal on the half-yard line he soared into the endzone. Two more scores later the Pats had overcome their 31-3 deficit! The Light would not be extinguished on this rainy night..

But the Niners returned a kickoff to the Patriots 38 and scored on the next play. Before the end the Patiots scored a field goal but failed to recover the onside kick...

The light may have been beaten, but... atleast we showed up!!! Better late than never!

Schopenhauer
Life is indeed meaningless, and full of pain, but Schopenhauer instructs us that our happiness comes from 3 sources:

What we think of ourselves,
What others think of us, and
The things we own.

Only one of them is under our control. So ignore the things and other people, and life becomes more bearable.

The New York Giants winning or losing is not under your control. Never was. They won last year, but this year they're stumbling around under some kind of post-Super Bowl malaise. Meaningless? Indeed. Painful? Only if you think it matters. And it shouldn't.

Re: Schopenhauer
Schopenhauer must have been a Cowboys fan.

Re: Schopenhauer
He's a football fan...his favorite team lost...is the deep psychoanalytical re-assurance really that necessary?

Own your sadness and anger George. Make it shine.

I called this back at the draft...
Don't sleep on an 11-2 team. They might just embarrass your g-men. You knocked us out of the playoffs last year in embarrassing fashion, we're just trying to return the favor this year.

FALCONS RISE UP!!

At least you aren't a Bears fan! What a disappointing second half to a season this has been!

It could be worse. I am a Bears fan and my husband is a Chiefs fan. Your Giants and Jets don't look so bad.

As a Packer fan, I have little sympathy. However, I hope your pain doesn't cause any of my favorite characters to be killed off in Winds of Winter. And anyway, you still have 2 more games left!

football
I'm not much into football, except superbowl and kc chiefs... but in germany the time difference is to bad for live nfl AND chief suck... the last years.
But since I'm in NYC for christmas shopping I've got HBO and they showed just a few minutes ago a namath-documantation... was great to see! Maybe just watch it and you will feel better.

George, I'm a huge fan of your works, and have tremendous respect for you, but sir, unless you are a Chicago Bears fan, you do not truly know despondence and misery.

Isn't this the scenario we want? With their backs against the wall.
They'll go on a 6 game winning streak.
No worries they got this. Going to be a EPIC run again.

Football and writing...
I know this sounds stupid, but I'm curious if whether or not the Giants have a good week affects whatever you happen to write that week. I had a college professor that gave a test only on the weeks the Steelers lost. I am no Steelers fan so it was a troublesome inner conflict. I've wondered if certain sad events in the Ice and Fire books were penned during weeks in which the Giants performed poorly.

On the topinc of football... it's been a tough year for the Giants fans, hasn't it?

I uh, started following the NFL and specifically the Jets a few years back, because

A. You wrote about the Jets a lot on your blog and I'm a huge ASOIAF fan.
B. Coworkers liked to talk Football, so following the Jets seemed like a good idea.
C. Mark Sanchez is from Orange County.

Unfortunately, things haven't gone as well as expected for them, and given that i'm pretty new at this.... WHAT DO I DO NOW??? :-)

You do what all Jets fans have been doing since 1970: you put on your tape of the SuperBowl III, and revel in our moment of glory.

When my Giants lose, I lose...
Anyone who doesn't understand that isn't a football fan.
