I've wanted to write to you for years to express my gratitude for the many pleasures your books have given me. I can't wait until you finish the Song. After watching the recent Hobbit film, I couldn't help but think that much as I love Tolkien, his works have lost much of their relevance for me and in these times ASOIAF appears as a much clearer and sharper reflection of the human condition, especially from the perspective of an adult. So, I'd put you at number one for fantasy. For Sci-Fi, I love your picks, but would have to put Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun above all the rest. A final note - I highly recommend "The Autumn of the Middle Ages" by Huizinga. You'd find Huizinga's analysis of the psychology of the medieval mind fascinating. Thank you, George and Happy Holidays.
