Parris Is Coming...

ape
... to London.

She left a few moments ago for the airport, to spend a week in Old Blighty visiting with friends, spoiling the godchildren, and seeing the Pre-Rafaelite exhibition at the Tate, which is supposed to be amazing.

I'm staying here, to hold down the fort and write. And write, and write, and edit, and write some more. Too much damn work to do, and I am way behind on everything.

But I'm bummed. Especially about missing that Tate exhibition, which closes in a week or so. All work and no play...

((I really do need to learn to say no. I swear, I'm trying. No, NO, NOOOOOOOOO)).

Miss the Phipps already. Take good care of her over there, you Barmy Brits.

I shall labor on, writing fake history, feeding the many monkeys on my back.

So, an update perhaps?
Please, George? Got a page count update for us on Winter? A completion percentage? Dying to just hear SOME kind of news on how much longer it'll be, even if its totally wrong. Hah! Just lie to us, if that helps. Just say it will be done in a month and I'll crawl back into my cave and set my alarm clock.

Anyway, write, write, write!

If it is any encouragement, I hear a rumor that Vick may follow Andy Reid to Kansas City and not the Jets. Hope that helps.

Re: So, an update perhaps?
I don't think this kind of pressure helps. He'll get to it when he gets to it....let him enjoy his own pleasures, as well.

Art's Moustache
It appears as though Art has stolen Paul's scalp and is using it as a faux moustache! Yeouch!

All work no play
All work and no play is irritating! Been there before, granted I don't have a life as busy as yours, but I moved everything around to actually be able to enjoy life, not endure it. Love your writing and your creative mind. Keep pressing on, but take ample break my friend.

Cordially,

<------ Dude you look just like Hunter Pence
Outfielder for the S.F. Giants.

Completely random but I though it would be cool that Hunter Pence was a GRRM fan and was on this blog. Excuse me Not a Blog.

Fake history = the World of Ice and Fire book, yes?

*So* eager to dive into that when it comes out... good luck with your writing and fort-holding.

And just for fun (though it's a few days late), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_h8EabVc9A&feature=player_embedded

Sooooo happy that Parris is coming!! :D Sorry that you are not joining us. :(

Will take care of our beloved as best as we can -she is a handful you know - and we are likely to do a bit of misbehaving, as is our way. I hope the writing, editing, writing is easier and more fun than you expect. = Next time you have to join us! xox

Funny you should use that album...
I read that one section on your site about how the title track should have been a clue.

Speaking of music and clues, I'm seven chapters into The Armageddon Rag. Starting to enjoy it.

EVERYONE is a suspect!

You make me smile Ser George!
Thanks for sharing George. This was the 1st time I felt like you were writing to "me", like a friend. I totally feel your pain about wanting to share the fun with your better half (haha). You need to write your ass off so you can take off half the year to traipse around the world with Lady Parris. :)

So, just like the "real universe" as we know it, keeps going-on )no matter how much we destroy the ozone, the atmosphere, the environment..), please don't ever release us from the land and songs of Fire and Ice (aka Westeros and beyond). That world needs to live on forever too. ;)

Loved listening to that perfect S&G song while I typed this too.

BIG Love and hope you can write with passion in your heart! You're a force of creativity like few out there.
xoxo

Hold down the fort?
I would just like to say something regarding "hold down the fort" but David mitchell says it much better.

I do love history and fake history!

I'm sure she'd want you to carry on, vigilant, and with many fans and friends cheering you on. Not to mention the cats....

We Love you though
I know you'll miss her a lot, but we love you George and know you're working hard to make us all just a little bit happier in life. Can't exactly say the same for all of your characters, but that's the fun of great story telling, ha ha ha

I hope Parris has a great time on her vacation and I wish you the best of luck feeding your monkeys. Thanks in advance for everything you're working on

Looking forward to quaffing quality craft beers with Jo and Parris on Wednesday.

Saw the Tate exhibition in November. Beautiful. Shame about all the Other People blocking my view. :P

I Am a Rock..
A favorite o' mine as well. I am feeling down today, so this one hits closer to home..... in more ways than one..

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Castlin' from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

..

I have my books
And my 'minis to protect me;
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

Would be delighted,
There's only one problem. I'm possibly as far away from London as its possible to get in good old Blighty. In fact, I'm only a few miles south of the wall, being on the 60 North parallel. However, I'm sure that she'll do fine without my assistance :).

Thank you, George!
I'm sorry you missed the Tate exhibition and the chance to adventure with your Love ;( Hope that maybe you can find time later for yourself. I don't know what it's like to have as much work to do as you but I can imagine the fruits must be wondrous once you get to them! Just remember too that the majority of us truly appreciate everything you do, regardless of how fast you do it ;) My husband likes to say that "nothing worth having is easy!"

Thank you. Thank you for working for the rest of us. I am sorry that you had to give up time with your loved ones. That is very hard to hear. I hope that you will be able to see them soon.

Ode to George
Just remember, George, that you're up there with the very greatest writers in history. I really mean it. Tolkein, Dickens, Dostoyevsky -- they didn't strike me in anything like the same way as your books!

Well, if its any consolation..
many of the exhibits are on loan from New York museums & other Stateside lenders, including the exhibition's focal-point 'The Lady Of Shalott', so you can see them all much closer to home any old time. 'The Lady of Shalott' conjures Dorne sandsnakes in their tower. AND it's to drizzle rain all week in damp, draughty, dreich, old London. No, you are far better off in sunny, sultry, sweltering New Mexico!

Get a manager who will say No for you! The down side of that is you have to let go of control. The up side is you can travel to fun exhibitions with the woman you love.

All work and no play
Thank you for continuing your work, but please do take time out for yourself. We'll still be here when you get back.
