Title Change

The episode I scripted for the third season of HBO's GAME OF THRONES has been retitled.

It was formerly "Autumn Storms," which I never much liked... but the episode did have a lot of rain in it.

The rain went away. So did the title.

The episode is now "Chains." I like that better. And it works on both a literal and metaphorical level.

It will still be the seventh show of the season, episode 307.

Awesome! The next season is definitely a reason I'm looking forward to 2013! (Yes, the next book too, but I wouldn't mention that. Also, I wouldn't connect "2013" to that intentionally either...)

So. Yay! :)

Glad it's something you like better! :)

"Autumn Storms" sounds like a porn star name.

Chains, huh? Who will be in chains at this point? Karstarks? Brienne? Jaime still? Tyrion? You don't have to answer. I'm just idly speculating. :)

can't wait!!

I agree. It should make a certain few scenes involving rain all the more poignant.

Oh... It rhymes with Reek.

Btw, quite sad the rain is gone... maybe I'm mistaken but some of the events I imagined being featured in this episode had to be under a heavy rain (not to spoil anything, I'll just say I was thinking of Queescrown and the march of some army...).

Those events wouldnt be the same without the rain, so I hope that if there is no rain in your episode, those events wont be featured in it too...

Then, I know how difficult it is to shoot under heavy rain (natural or artificial), so I'll forgive the show if those events are under the sun.

I was thinking of the same events. But the new title makes me rethink (although it CAN still apply)

Is the title of Autumn Storms under trademark, copyright etc?? I do like the sounds of it (maybe not for Game of Thrones..) and I'd like to use it for something, if legally allowed to.

You cannot copyright titles.

I'm very excited for this episode in particular... your episode in the last season was brilliant. What surprised me about it was how much Cersei made that episode shine. Thanks for your hard work!

wow, serious? Dang, so I could go out tomorrow and write something and give the title "A Game of Thrones" and the rightful owner of that title i.e. you, would be helpless to stop it? That sucks!!! Doesn't seem right, somehow. Although I can imagine it would be difficult to police for lesser known works etc.
Looking forward to the next book :)

The reverse is also true. Someone wrote a thriller called 'A Dance of Dragons' a few years before George's book came out. If it had been copyrighted, there would have been problems ;-)

It sounds awesome, I can't wait!

SO Excited!!!
Now that we're getting closer to the HBO GoT 3rd season to come, I started ADWD. I wanted to wait to the last minute....LOVING it and so can't wait till March 31st!! My hearts a flutter!!

Either title seemed poetic to me..but "i know nothing"
Jan. 10th, 2013 10:28 pm (UTC)
I really hope it is not "The Rains of Castamere" at a certain wedding that went away :(
Jan. 10th, 2013 11:41 pm (UTC)
Not probable
RW... not probable. George had said it was difficult to write that in aSoS so maybe he wouldn't want to go all over again, specially the way a TV script should depict certain things.
Also 7th episode is too early, IMHO it must happen on the 8th or 9th. Still maybe I'm wrong, originally I thought of the former inn, Queenscrown, but now I don't have a clue.

Re: Not probable
It'll be in episode 9. :)

The Rains of Castamere
I would love to hear a version of this song done by Jenn Titus! Check YouTube for her version of Ralph Stanley's "O' Death".

Can not wait for the new season to start! Thank god the HBO series is so utterly fantastic or I'd be SOL in keeping this ASoIaF addiction at bay ;).

first ever comment so.be gentle.
George you're my favourite author of all time and i just hope you keep up the good work. The fact that the Martell's are gonna start whoopin sum ass makes it almost unbearable to wait.. Still id rather wait years for masterpiece than weeks for shite .Keep it up bud.

Now I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out what will be happening in this episode that will involve "chains" (literally and metaphorically). :) *goes to look back through book 3*

Re: *exciting!*
Think about Patchface's: King's blood, fool's blood.. blah blah.. chains for the guests and chains for the bridegroom

Re: *exciting!*
BRILLIANT! :D I didn't even think of that! Thank you.

Re: *exciting!*

The Show
I have heard so many good things about this season, I am actually more excited than I have been in previous years. "Chains"...I will definitely be watching!

Autumn Storms sounds cool.
Autumn Storms sounds cool to me, not much with Chains. Anyway looking forward for the show!

Ain't it little bit late for the Blackwater chain, eh ? =D
Jan. 14th, 2013 11:30 pm (UTC)
Curious - the episodes you've written have been late in each season - can I assume this is your choice? If it is up to you, what makes you lean toward later (though not final) episodes?

Looking forward!

Stoked! Faramir inspire Jon Snow?
Extremely excited for the new season. Still haven't ready DWD as I'm waiting until the season has been released as I'm sure I'll be jonesing after the finale!

Didn't know where else to ask this but when creating Jon Snow, were you at all inspired by or influenced by Faramir of Gondor? Randomly came to me when pondering the characters that they share a lot of similarities. Maybe not directly but to a degree, both men are more in touch with the people then their older brothers, Jon snow is not the heir to winterfell due to his bastardness and Faramir was just holding the thrown waiting for the return of king etc. They go on but I'm sure you can figure it out :)
