Hot damn, a free Wild Cards story, and a new one to boot! I thought Xmas was over too.

Any chance of a Kindle friendly version? I'd be happy to pay the iron price.

If I've never read a Wild Cards book or story, would I be lost if I picked this up? I'm not quite sure how WC works. Is it a chronological series? Or stories all in the same world but independent of each other?

Please & thank you!!

Well, yes and no. It's complicated.

The Wild Cards series does have its own internal chronology, yes. But we try to provide various entry points for new readers. You don't have to read every Superman comic since ACTION #1 to understand the Superman comic on the stands this month, and you should not have to read all the WC books that have gone before to enjoy "When We Were Heroes."

Some good entry points, for those wanting to get into the series for the first time, are WILD CARDS volume 1 (recently reissued in trade pb), INSIDE STRAIGHT (first of the 'new generation' books) and FORT FREAK (the most current volume, and first of a new triad).

Beam me up Scottie - science fiction blurs
First sliding doors;now tractor beams!Scots scientists have boldly gone & created a light beam only previously seen on Star Trek. A real-life version of the "tractor beam" actually draws objects towards it,albeit microscopically.
