Superbowl

passport
Congrats to the Baltimore Ravens and their fans, and condolences to the fans of the 49ers.

Another exciting Superbowl. Used to be that the big game was a blowout more often than not, but the last few years have seen some exciting contests. For once, it was a great defensive goal line stand that won the game. Something fans of D like me see all too seldom. (Of course, the Niners playcalling on first-and-goal from the five left much to be desired. Too many passes to Crabtree. I would have gone with Gore Up the Gut four times. If they had, I'd be congratulating San Francisco right now, I suspect).

Of course, this year can't compare with last year's thrilling Giants win, but hey, that's the NFL. Glory is fleeting. The G-Men will be back.

Ravens!!
Woo Ravens! To the other posters on Ray Lewis - I definitely agree, even as a Baltimore lad myself. The "god is with me, but not them" thing bugged me (even as an agnostic) and there's still something a bit unsettled about Atlanta-2000...

But I tell myself that Ed Reed (perhaps the greatest safety who ever lived), Matt Birk (the first Harvard grad to start in a Super Bowl and a total class act), Brendon Ayanbadejo (SO outspokenly pro-gay-rights, good man) also won rings along with a bunch of other good folks. So there's that!

Ravens-Giants would be great next year. Especially considering that, in terms of career arc, Flacco and Eli are basically the same guy. They both had ongoing questions about eliteness, but in the beginning of a season declared themselves the best QB out there... and then went out and won the big one with MVP on top. And, in any given regular season game, you don't know if you'll get the one that throws 400 yards and 3 TD's or goes full-Delhomme...
