Superbowl

Congrats to the Baltimore Ravens and their fans, and condolences to the fans of the 49ers.

Another exciting Superbowl. Used to be that the big game was a blowout more often than not, but the last few years have seen some exciting contests. For once, it was a great defensive goal line stand that won the game. Something fans of D like me see all too seldom. (Of course, the Niners playcalling on first-and-goal from the five left much to be desired. Too many passes to Crabtree. I would have gone with Gore Up the Gut four times. If they had, I'd be congratulating San Francisco right now, I suspect).

Of course, this year can't compare with last year's thrilling Giants win, but hey, that's the NFL. Glory is fleeting. The G-Men will be back.

Good game
Congrats to the Ravens. It was a hard fought game and they deserved to win considering the play of the Niners during the first half. That said I think they should have been called on offensive holding for that last play. It was pretty blatant.

Otherwise I think that the only other injustice of the game was not giving the MVP to Jacoby Jones. No other player had a greater impact on that game. His 70 yard touchdown was ridonculous. Then his return for the touchdown? Without those two plays, the Ravens lose. Flacco did a great job. But without Jones they lose, period.

Superbowl
The Ravens did play a great game, congrats to them, especially Flacco. I too could not believe the play calling from the 5, but being the one to call the plays would be a brutal responsibility. Thankfully I didn't have to watch it since I was driving and only had to listen on the radio, Gore basically got them down there, let him finish it off, or at least let Kap use his legs! For me the only sour note was seeing Lewis go out on a high note, it sucks knowing a man that probably deserves handcuffs and bars got a ring instead.

Come oooon, nothing about Joe "Big Bertha" Flacco? ;)
And Glory to Ray Lewis: a legend.

Agreed. It was a good game though. I agree with Mr. Martin on the final plays of the game. Niners could have done something a bit different. Also, their heart wasn't in the game for the last end of the 1st quarter and first end of the 2nd. I can't stand when the camera picks up the "defeated look" on certain player's faces. You are at the Superbowl for crying out loud! Buck up! Their comeback was entertaining to watch at the same time. Finally got their heads out of their ass, but not soon enough it would seem. Congrats to the Ravens fans. Solid defense and a lot of agressive plays. You earned this one, as much as I hate you for it.

Nothing to do with the NFL
But I had to post this to have it on your blog Mr. Martin. The body found under the parking lot in Leicester in Richard III.
He will be reburied at Leicester Cathedral sometime next year.

I would think not. He was King of England. He'll be buried in Westminster Abbey I would think.

Really glad that my team won! Last year it was yours, this year mine. Who knows what next year will have in store. So long as rivals (New England, etc...) don't win a championship, we should be good. Be interesting to see what the Giants get up to.
I may even post something from my book on my blog in celebration...

You just made a new NFL fan
As most of us, I suppose, I came to your blog for your books and for your amazing worlds. Being from Portugal, I never cared much about American football. But I'm a big sports fan, and your passionate posts about the NFL stirred my curiosity.
After two weeks of watching games highlights on youtube and a crash curse on the game rules over the Wikipedia, I stayed up last night until 4:00 am to watch the Super Bowl live. And what an amazing game! Thank you.
I think you just made a new NFL fan. As a mark of gratitude, I will support both your teams from now on. Go G-Man! Go Gang Green! I can’t wait till the next season.

Great game, I just wish HBO would've taken this opportunity to show a real Game of Thrones Season 3 Trailer

Hopefully my beloved Buffalo Bills will make the playoffs next year, it's been far too long of a wait for me :(

Now that there's no football maybe you can write a few extra pages each day on TWOW George? Keep up the good work!

Good luck!
Good luck to your G-men next season! But, you must know that in the history of the Superbowl a team has never made the big game when their home stadium is hosting. And NY has the big game next year. Though, there is a first time for everything and perhaps with almost 50 Super Bowls in the books one could say it is perhaps overdue.

Re: Good luck!
In a perfect world, next year's Superbowl would feature the Giants versus the Jets, with the Boss as the halftime show.

Totally agree with you on that runcall thing. Either Gore or Kap and there is a different winner.

Giants = Glorious Lannister House
Hey George,

I'm a big fan of your work and a Giants fan, and I have to say I was slightly offended in an interview when you likened the Lannisters to the Patriots. I prefer the Lannisters over the other houses in the story and that comment hurt. In my opinion the Patriots are more like the equivalent of the Boltons. Also my buddy's girlfriend really wants you to finish the series sooner rather than later... and well, we all try to be nice to her. Is there any way you can help us out?

Love Joey
