I'm excited for this because I grew up on old copies of Bradbury's Martian Chronicles and R is for Rocket from our local library (your cover even looks a little like that old copy of R is for Rocket). They are still two of my favorite collections that I re-read and I hope that your collection has that retro feeling of interplanetary exploration and adventure before there was even a man on the moon.

Well... I'm feeling quite a bit silly writing this, but what the hell, let's do this, shall we?

George R.R. Martin, I can't begin to thank you! My name is Igor, from Brazil. From age twelve I've taken an interest in reading, and from this came my love for writing. Ever since that time I've written many stories, discarding every one of them, one after another. I had the dream to eventually make my own book, but I never made it half-the-way. That is, until I read your books.

A Song of Ice and Fire is a GREAT series. You did a great job capturing the points-of-view from different characters. From the naive Jon Snow to the cunning Tyrion Lannister, each one of them is a character of it's own. And the plotting, the warring, the fighting... all of it captivated me.

You gave me inspiration. And it let me create my own book series.

"Aço e Sombra" (or Steel and Shadow as it's name would be in English) is the first book of the series "O Confronto dos Deuses" (The Clash of Gods), a (heavy) fantasy series describing the events of the second Age of Shadows, the conflict between the fallen God of Fire (Gallashkulah) and the Goddess of Moon (Lauvida), told by the point-of-view from different characters in different parts of the world.

I own this to you. Without reading your series, I would never have made it this far. The first book is done, with around 400 A4 pages, published on an amateur site (though I'm trying to get a local publishing house to publish it). The second book of the series, "Coroas de Sangue" (Blood Crowns) is under work right now, with around 50 A4 pages of work done.

Words are not enought to describe how gratefull I am, George. In my book, I've made many references to your work. Futhermore, in the beggining of the book, there's also this:

I was a first reader for davidlevine's story, so I've been hearing about this anthology for a while now. I can't wait to read all of the others in the book. Congrats on getting a pub date; give Anne Groell my best; and know that I'll preorder the book as soon as it's available for same. Yay!

That Mars is the real setting for aSoIaF, you know, after the white walkers and their frozen god flood across the world? The "canals" that we thought we saw were the remnants of the Wall. Maybe Curiosity will dug up some dragon glass. Is Olympus Mons the site of the Valyrian Doom? I'm kidding of course. Or am I?

I know titles can't be copyrighted, but Robert Sawyer has a novel coming out this April with the same title as your introduction: "Red Planet Blues". Is Bantam OK with cross promotion with TOR?

My first sci-fi book was "The Martian Chronicles" and I've been a fan of Mars ever since. Greatly looking forward to it!

I beg to differ about post Mariner Mars as 'boring,' at least for those of us space-nerds who get excited by alien landscapes and mysterious geological features. Images and data from the recent Rover missions have been extraordinary. (Ok, no canals or ruined cities, but there are those strange blueberries!)

That sounds so fun and cool and totally the kind of thing I would have loved as a kid. I once spent a summer reading stacks of horror, sci fi, and fantasy short story anthologies.

this should be good... hopefully the new Cosmos w/Neil de Grasse Tyson will start up by then it would be a great combo
