Exactly. Anyone thing this was about the 2 million is nuts. They had a value they set on Welker, an aging player who's performance has begun to decline and they weren't going to move off it. And, as it turned out, their valuation of him wasn't too far off how the rest of the league seems to value him. Turns out his 2/12mil deal isn't fully guarenteed after all, only the first year. They waited up until free agency opened, and then they moved on to make sure they got the younger player they wanted.
