Website Revamp

By popular request... a complete redesign and revamp of my website debuted today.

Same content. New look. More bells, more whistles, more functionality (we hope).

There will be a few bumps as we ease through the transition, but we should have everything smoothed out and running well before too long.

Let us know your thoughts.

It's...so beautiful!
This new site is quite stunning - in comparison to the previous (admittedly fairly hideous) site it's absolutely spectacular.

Kudos to the designers! I love it. I am so glad that what was easily the nastiest website I regularly visited no longer tries to blind me with pure ugliness.

btw, I mean no disrespect to whomever designed the old site, I am a professional in this area and when I look back at some old pages I've designed...well, they were very bad :).

Nice... this is way better... I was thinking for years "when is he going to update that page" ... and it's way better... people all over the world get used to the look of webpages that are in time and yours wasn't... looked not "clean"... NOW IT'S Beautiful!

WOW! Beautiful! Where did the sample chapter go? Will this continue to be a feature?

I'm studying web design right now, I will really enjoy having a look around. The old site reminded me of the 90s, welcome to 2013! :D

Small request
Loving the new site! One small request; on the interviews page would it be possible to put an icon next to the interviews denoting whether they're text, audio, or video? Cheers!

Congrats on the new website. :)

Very sleek and pretty... the only thing I can't find is the sample chapter (unless that is removed?)

Life... writing... general craziness
Mr. Martin,
As a 'juggling' author myself, between job and family and obligations, I find it very hard to get in the 'required' writing time needed. Granted, I am nowhere near the caliber of writer that you are. (BTW, I've been reading your work since Game of Thrones was first released, believe me, I pimped it as much as I could.) How do you find the time, given all your demands, to keep your work flowing towards its conclusion? Also, how do you keep outside 'works' from influencing your writing? (I know that if I discuss my 'in progress' story with others, it kind of steals some of the 'adventure in writing'.)

Also, keep up the good work. You are in the midst of 'fighting the dragon' I'm sure, with your mammoth work, Game of Thrones.

One last question- did you ever envision this story growing this big, or where you simply going to wrap it up in 3 books...

Welcome to the world of Tomorrow!

I actually said that in my best Disney voice, too. It looks great and the design is a perfect fit. Very easy to navigate and everything seems to work so far. Congrats! It's a great job!

Sample chapters
I didn't find the sample chapter.

It looks great! Everything is still 'organized' the same way but it is more more appealing...looking forward to more updates!

Like the website, have a request for my fiancé
Hello Mr. Martin,

My fiancé Christian and I are getting married this September. He is my best friend and a wonderful person. He absolutely loves Game of Thrones. In fact he even wanted a Game of Thrones themed wedding. It would mean so much to him and me if I could give him a signed copy of one of your books with a note to him inside from you. If this is at all a possibility, please let me know.

Thank you for your consideration.

Really cool web design!
The website is amazingly done! Great job!

Just a question, who helps you maintain your website or do you rather do most of it by yourself?

Just curious. : O

btw It's very practical and pretty, a real improvement.

Ooh sparkly!
Went there first today rather than here so it was a pleasant surprise.

Much improved, love the artwork.

Any chance of bringing back and updating the House sigils too maybe put them on a separate page somewhere?

I rather liked the dated look of your old website but at least the "not a blog" section maintains that vintage look!

Although I'll miss the old site (I have a soft spot for that late 90s pure html style), I'm very glad you're keeping up with the times, and this new site is undoubtedly very slick, very polished, and has everything you could need right up front, and more. Well done!

Your picture isn't anywhere on it, though. At least not that I could find. That's another thing I liked about the old site, it had your picture, which gave it even more of a personal touch. So I would try to find a way to add that back - that's my only suggestion.

Well, you can find plenty of pictures of me on the new site, if you go exploring.

But yes, I'm no longer featuring myself on the front page. That's in part a deliberate decision to give more emphasis to my work, and less to me personally. Also, it may cut down on the number of times I am recognized at airports, restaurants, and the like. (He said wistfully, not really believing it).

Can your computer render this website?
Since you write using Wordstar on a DOS computer, I'm just curious.. are you even able to view your own fancy website now? :)
Mar. 27th, 2013 02:00 pm (UTC)
Well, as much as the old site had quaint and nostalgic charm, the new one is much improved. Very nice!

Update on website
Hi George -- love the new look website. Gorgeous! Also, very nice to have a special link under "friends" -- but maybe you could change it so it links to my website: www.lisatuttle.co.uk
instead of to a very good but now rather out-dated website that was set up chiefly as a bibliographical exercise by a German fan. Lots of good information there, but it hasn't been updated for several years.

I'm not very good at keeping my own website absolutely up-to-date, but will try.

I like it! Nicely done!

Great move!
Hello George,

I don't enter your website too often, maybe once a month, but I did last night and found this great new look. To be honest, I thought I got into the wrong page, maybe I had been redirected to some fan's site, but then I spotted the blog entry and realized! I really like it, I agree that it deserved a redesign. Keep it up!

Mar. 27th, 2013 04:42 pm (UTC)
Love the new look. But a few questions
Where are the chapter excerpts from the Winds of Winter now? And also, is there now no longer a place to look for an "update" on the next Song of Ice and Fire book? I know that section was rarely updated, but I was just wondering. I assume it will just be a major announcement under "news" now. Also, I think a "polls" section on the main page could be fun. Just a thought.

Revamp or die
I like the it. I find it easier to navigate through all the contents of te site, and I love the section On Fantasy with the shortcut to Westeros page.
Best regards from Galicia (Spain's Westeros)
