Season Three !!!

Tonight's the night!

The wait is over.

Season Three is at hand.

Be sure to tune in. Even those of you who "don't have HBO." HBO is doing a big promotion this weekend, so it's free on many cable systems and satellite services right now.

I have seen episode one three times now, at various premieres, and I think it kicks ass. I hope you all agree. Season Three bids fair to be the strongest to date.

For those new to the Not A Blog, let me add my annual disclaimer. I hope you watch the show, and I hope you talk about, all the things you liked and hated... but not here. This is not the place for critiques, discussions, theories, whatever. There are dozens of other places on the internet better suited for that, so post your thoughts on Westeros, Tower of the Hand, Winter Is Coming, Television Without Pity, or any one of the myriad other sites that welcome such.

Time to buy the beer and order that pizza for the premiere.

Nice shout out to TWoP. The Unsullied over there have been quite inquisitive over the whereabouts of Ser Barristan the Bold, so I'll be delighted to see their reaction to his return.

Iron Throne Beer
Let me just say, I just went on a hunt to find the Iron Throne beer...I heard it was supposed to go on sale today (3/31) but liquor stores have been selling it for over a week. After venturing to 5 different stores I had lost hope, but found the last one at a rather small place store.

So to all of you who thought the same as I, I wish you good luck!

Enjoy it if you've got it, I will be cracking it open with my Baratheon war hammer during the intro song!

Congratulations George! How exciting for you to have seen this whole effort come to fruition!

I'm MORE excited...
From this point on, this day will commemorate both the rebirth of Jesus and the rebirth of Game of Thrones. It's been a long winter. Spring is here again. Let the Game begin.

Re: I'm MORE excited...
I hope you're not offended by this, but I saw an image earlier of Jesus rising, with the words "What Is Dead May Never Die" written on top, to commemorate the coincidence. I thought it was funny.

I was so excited to see that HBO had a free premiere weekend so I could see the season opener. And then I found out that it was only for "advanced" subscribers and not basic cable, like what I switched to to save money.

It's just a temporary setback. When fortunes change, I will be happy to pay for HBO because good quality shows are worth paying for. I'll even (eventually) get the box sets!

Thank you for capturing my imagination so thoroughly.

Walking Dead theories? No? Oh well congrats on seeing your creation blossom.
Mar. 31st, 2013 06:57 pm (UTC)
I'm looking forward to it!! Fingers crossed "WINDS" will be out next year, but the series on HBO will help keep my hunger for the next book at bay. As a reader, I'm looking forward to how non-readers will respond to the changes Jaime goes through.
Mar. 31st, 2013 08:10 pm (UTC)
I do too! That's one of the things I'm most looking forward to this year. Jaime's transition from "black/white villain" to "interesting human being" and a new fan favorite is exciting for me. That, and people's reaction to what's coming next for Robb and the Starks.

The previews look incredible. Congratulations on so much success! I hope the show keeps drawing more and more attention to your incredible books.

just want to say how much I'm looking forward to this season. among all the countless tv shows I've seen, there's only three I've felt this much excitement for. like, counting down the days, unable to supress a squeal of joy excitement. and game of thrones is one of them. I have no doubt it'll be another amazing season where I can watch all the characters I've come to love and love to hate come to life :)

I have to know, what kind of beer (style not brand) did you get George? a lager? a stout? please not an American golden one...
Mar. 31st, 2013 10:30 pm (UTC)
Game of Thrones blonde ale, of course.

is there any chance for me to get this free-hbo-thing this evening via internet? i waste away in germany and really can't wait another several weeks for season 3, so if there's someone who knows more than nothing, i'd be grateful for any info!

I don't have cable TV and don't want it, as I watch very little TV. I do have a wonderful DVD collection, though, so will have to wait till this one is on DVD. Anyway, I'm just watching Season 2., which I bought as soon as it was available in Australia. And reading "A Feast For Crows". ;-) All the best with this, George. Do you think they might film Fevre Dream some time?
Apr. 1st, 2013 12:05 am (UTC)
I was unsuccessful in securing a bottle of Iron Throne for tonight, but I guess that's what I get for waiting until the last minute (and on Easter Sunday no less, so many stores are closed)!

George, on my search for this beer I was informed by one individual that there will be a whole line of Game of Thrones beers from the Ommegang brewery. Do you know if there's any truth to this? If so, any idea what kind of beers the others will be?
Apr. 1st, 2013 12:57 am (UTC)
Excited!! But wish it wasn't going up against the finale of my other favorite show. Not fair, TV gods, not fair.
Apr. 1st, 2013 03:21 pm (UTC)
On the upside
Even if you don't have a DVR, both shows were rebroadcast.

I still haven't watched Talking Dead yet, because we watched GoT, Walking Dead and Saturday's Doctor Who premiere last night.

I think GoT killed the HBO website
I don't know if it's people trying to access it and they got overwhelmed or what, but HBO and the GoT sites are both down right now. And they STILL won't take our money on an a la carte basis for Game of Thrones!!

Re: I think GoT killed the HBO website
Yeah, I'd pay a few euros just to watch the episodes from Germany via internet. I hate to wait until the DVD releases.
I know severaly people who would pay the same, HBO could make a fortune this way....

YES! Finally!!!! I can't wait!

Happy but sad
I think the episode of today was amazing. But its a bit sad for me, because some changes of the series make my book memories vanish. =/

*The unsullieds are amazing.
*I also loved the dialogue between Tyrion and his dad.
