NFL Draft, Day 3

The Giants draft is looking very strong. No spectacular moves, but solid players who will make solid contributions. Grabbing Nassib in round four to back up Eli and groom as his successor was a great move.

The Jets draft... two defensive players in round one look okay, but considering how high they were taken, you had to hope for more. Neither one looks like a game-changer. And taking Geno Smith will set back the club years. Sanchez is likely to be released now, which means we are starting all over, and with a much iffier prospect than Mark was when he was first drafted,

Jets QB Situation
I'm not sure I agree that picking Geno Smith guarantees setting the club back years. If he really is a bust (as I think he will be) and the Jets can figure that out in one year, he's still a second-round pick and easier to shed/move to backup QB. There's no shame or harm in picking Manziel or some other top prospect next draft. I pray the Jets don't have the natural draft position to get those guys (i.e., Rex somehow keeps us competitive), but whether they have a top 5 pick or trade up, they can always get another QB from a better draft class in 2014.

Re: Jets QB Situation
That's possibly true. If he can slide without needing to have Joe Torre teach him then that's a positive.
