Aces and Elephants

Aces, elephants, actors (well, understudies)... oh, my.

There's a new Wild Cards story up on Tor.com. This one is by the amazing Paul Cornell, and features Abigail the Understudy, Elephant Girl, and Croyd (the Sleeper) Crenson. What more could you want?

Oh, art by John Picacio? It's got that too.

You can read it here:

Enjoy... and spread the word.

Red Wedding Fallout
Well I knew it was going to be big but I didn't know it was going to be so funny to watch.

Also heard a good joke to make me lol.

Why doesn't George R R Martin use twitter?

Cause he killed all 140 characters.

The elephant in the room. Heh.
Jun. 3rd, 2013 11:18 pm (UTC)
Yes. How...fitting.

The Unsullied are out for blood, George. The taste of their tears is sweet for horrible people like me, but you might want to keep out of public places for awhile until their frothing outrage settles into the low boil of the undying Frey and Bolton hate we book readers have carried with us for years.

Red Wedding
Yeah I thought too that you would try to evade any type of media for a couple of weeks after last night :P.

some at westeros said D&D failed the RW. I don't think so... and the youtube fan "live" reactions seem to show that it's not like that.
Great on tv, great in the books!

Thx george, thx D&D!

Are these going to be collected in a book?
Just wondering. "When We Were Heroes" (need to read the latest two) was so good it needed to be in a book.
Jun. 3rd, 2013 11:23 pm (UTC)
I thought that the elephant in the room was the Red Wedding.
Jun. 4th, 2013 12:33 am (UTC)
I'll definitely check it out. I need some reading material to tide me over between this season of Game of Thrones and the next. Hoping whoever is casted as Mace Tyrell looks like a fat Inigo Montoya from the Princess Bride!

How clever, GRRM.
The elephant in the room... doesn't address what happened last night. Very clever.

Of course you're pleased. Many people hate you for last night.

And much more love you. I'm a big fan of your books and in this moment, after that event on the tv series, I just want to thank you for that. And hope that Winds Of Winter comes soon. Sorry for the bad english, just enter here to thank you for your excelent work.

Greetings from Perú.

Tor Takes my Breath Away Yet Again.
Nicely done, my old friend. By the Seven, this year is turning out to be the year of Wild Cards.
Jun. 5th, 2013 01:31 am (UTC)
I loved that episode and I love people's reactions even more. To think that a large part of the viewers are still thinking this is some kind of run of the mill story with a happy ending hehehehe. Kill away George, it's your story to tell however the heck you want to. Elephant in the room indeed :D

I love you George. Wish I could meet you and go "WHYYYYY". I'm sure you get that a lot on a weekly basis. Hope you're fine and wishing you long healthy life.

(Can I be Jhaqo in the series? Please? I look like him I guess. Love you.)

Red Wedding Reaction

George you should really check this out and see the heartache you have casued! Thank you for such wonderful stories and for keeping me up all night with horrible sick feelings! Please keep it coming.

A very quick question about The House of The Undying in the HBO series
Why was it cut down so much? There were a lot of weird psychedelic visions and important prophecies in that chapter.

Rhaegar even uses the term "A Song of Ice and Fire" for the first time. Could they simply not find an actor to play Rhaegar for one scene? Or are they going to have Daenerys see the vision later on in the story so that people don't forget about it before it becomes relevant?

Thanks for all the imagination, but I'm gonna miss Robb so much...
My only confort now is watching the beautiful Daario Naharis.

I know its not related, but I just watched your interview on Conan. I am SO Glad for you! I hope this kind of awesome success and great response continues. I kept wondering how the interview was going to go, and Conan, despite being a master of handling direction, you really gave him some great quips and insights that were just awesome for us fans. Cheers to you, Mr. Martin, I was very entertained! May the words and plot lines flow like blood from the red wedding, and bile from tywin' bowels!!!!!!!!!

Jon Snow
I've finished all your books and all I've to say or rather beg...Please do not kill Jon Snow, you will break my heart.

I wonder how many people started foaming at the mouth when you said "I'm writing very quickly" lol

Very nice story.

Red Wedding
Now you have a lot more people sharing the grief of the Red Wedding. Oh hell that doesnt even make sense. I'm just grateful I only flung a book, not a TV. Guess I'll read the story but I wont pass it around for another week or so - I want people to be focussed!!

Dear M. Martin,

First of all, please forgive me for my english skills !
I'm a huge French fan of the Game of Thrones TV Show, and I've also bought your books, translated in French.

Which I cannot read ! The editors has picked up a really bad translator, all the books are non sens, he translated it words by words, just like a computer or Google would did it ! It gives unreadable sentences, and I've also learned that he has deleted many passages because he wanted to, and he rewrote your books in his way.

I think that it's really scandalous, and I think you should have your word to say ! I've bought the first tome 25€ (nearly the price of the 4 first books in original version) for nothing !

I'm not the only one to complain, a little research on the web will give you an idea of how terrible his translation is !

Please, ask the editors to retranslate your books, I really want to read it and to make my family (non english speakers) read it too !

Many thanks and sorry for the desagrement !
Have a great day !

Looking forward to Elephant/ from one fantasy writer to another
Mr. Martin: Looking forward to the story.

If anyone gives you stuff about book 6 not being ready yet, you can send 'em my way (and yes, that includes forwarding emails). I wrote a fantasy novel 2009-2011. Yeah, I worked on other projects on the side. But it was 120,000 words, went through five drafts, got good enough to get three full manuscript requests from agents. It's one-quarter the size of your average SOIAF with nowhere near the world building. I appreciate your taking the time to get it right. Because I've been there.

Is that the Paul Cornell Who wrote the fantastic Doctor Who story Human Nature?
I finally jumped on the Doctor Who wagon a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed by Cornell's writing. Then I found out he writes novels as well, so I guess this must be the same guy right?

Re: Is that the Paul Cornell Who wrote the fantastic Doctor Who story Human Nature?
Yes, same guy. Amazing writer. Novels, short stories, teleplays, comic books, he does it all. Including WILD CARDS.

So, I finally got my husband to listen to A Song of Fire and Ice on audiobook, and he's apparently having some issues with understanding some of the words Roy Doltrice pronounces.. Because he asked me the other day how they get milk from the puppy.. It took me a good 5 mins to figure out what he was talking about, and another good 10 or 15 for me to explain to him that it's milk of the POPPY!
