Back From LA

Just back from a week in LA.

I did Conan (the O'Brien, not the Cimmerian) and the Today Show, and taped a segment for a BBC special about Machiavelli... along with the usual dozen or so meeetings.

Also, while in town, swung by the Bookstar in Studio City and signed all their stock of my books, which was considerable. So if you're an Angeleno or just visiting LA, and want to snag an autographed copy of one of my novels, get yourself to Studio City while the supply lasts.

And now I'm back in the land of wolves and savage dust storms, digging out from under.

Hope you had a good trip George. It's always nice to come back home after being away for a while.
I watched your Conan interview, it made me very happy to hear you're writing The Winds of Winter fast! Keep up the good work.

Glad you got out of the house to recharge the battery and had safe travels. We've enjoyed the interviews that have sprouted up.

Any updates you can share on...
The Skin Trade production?

Did you have any free meals with agents and a big named director talking about Fevre Dream on the big screen?

Oh and you were great on Conan. He was genuinely excited to talk to you because of his love for the show. Now he must share a greater love for the books!

Signed Copies
That's the closest book store to my house, and I bought Dance With Dragons there 2 years ago. I might have to go pick up another copy! Thanks, George. I'm so looking forward to what you have in store next.

Saw the Conan interview. I thought you did splendidly! Conan's always been a funny guy. I hope you had a good time there!

Can I be you when I grow up? ;)

Quite right, Goddess. Had to catch it on YouTube, my bedtime is a little b4 Conan. Also, is that an allusion to Dorne with the swirling sandstorms? Hard to catch the references without Mr. Froggy.

Loved the comments about Staten Island
Loved your comments about Staten Island! I grew up in the area, and found it hysterical. It's great to see that you are down to earth and never forgot your roots...just cant see the Jets / Giants dual fan thing..come on man!

ps.. suffering Jet fan here

A recommendation for a strange
I dont recommend lightly but with this kind of voice it would be a sin if i dont. I hope you will enjoy this song as much as i do and maybe you can help this independent musician to earn a living.

Yours sincerely

Is there any chance that you will visit another part of europe than switzerland or england?

Much needed explanation.
Would you please tell me, what is the meaning of a passage about "the land of wolves"? Is it a reference to an actual geographic location? Being not familiar with geography of USA, I have adsolutely no way of understaning such things, in case there is one.

You killed it on Conan, man. Good seeing you in the spotlight.

Welcome back! Hope it was all a great time. Hopefully the media didn't harass you too much on the next book. Got a kick out of the Red Wedding reaction videos. Looking forward to the next seasons of Dexter and Boardwalk Empire, if you watch either of those.

Evil Little Bill
Random question... What do you think Bill is up to up there in Foxborough? An interesting pickup with Tebow. I can't help but think he wants to just try and rub it in Ryan's face but he is staying very quiet. I really felt bad for Tebow with the whole NY situation, it was the definition of a media circus.

I saw your spoiler for the Game of Thrones show, that was hilarious!

A brief heads-up
Hey, George—
First off, I just cannot wait to read more and have loved your work since the Thousand Worlds stories started showing up in the little mass market Hugo anthologies my friend Mark had stockpiled in his basement. You're the best. I've been reading the newest excerpt on the webpage and thought you'd want to know that there's a small typo—you've got "Straights of Tarth" about 2/3 of the way down. Can't wait to read more.

GoT '90s edition
I know this is... maybe not entirely related to your appearance on Conan, but I had to share it and didn't know of anywhere else I could get your attention: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fPgIIB67bw

More to the topic at hand, I really enjoyed the "spoilers" you threw out on the show! I always knew this whole mess was a Planet of the Apes-style mindscrew.

i don't suppose you've seen/would like to comment on the recent onion articles about you?
Jun. 12th, 2013 07:07 pm (UTC)
I enjoy the ONION.

Great interview on Conan, George! I love how you smirked gleefully at the video of the tv viewers' reactions to the Red Wedding.

Also, the outtake "spoiler" real ("Jaime starts a metal band called Kingslayer"..."Hodor") was hilarious. I've watched it several times now!
Jun. 12th, 2013 05:19 am (UTC)
Conan and his writers get all the credit for the spoilers. I am not nearly so funny.

Tebow to the Pats - that had to put a smile on your face.

I love you, Mr. George RR Martin, but, and I type this with delicacy and utmost respect, going on Conan and then doing a book signing does not constitute "everyday life".
Jun. 12th, 2013 03:30 am (UTC)
Hope you've had nice travels Ser Martin. I enjoyed seeing you on Conan. I feel like I know you!! I know I adore you! Now that you're home you can work on the Jean Cocteau. ;) My friend from HS moved out there too from Rockland County (over the border of NY/NJ years ago and told me she lives near the JC. I hope to visit her and come and see you there maybe some day. :) xoxo

I looooooved your Conan interview! :) I hope he really *does* read the books now. ;-)
