Shocked and Saddened

I was saddened this morning to hear about the sudden death of James Gandolfini in Italy, of an apparent heart attack. He was only fifty-one.

I don't recall that I ever met Gandolfini, though we may have been present at one or more HBO events over the past couple of years (those are large gatherings), but I was huge admirer of his acting. THE SOPRANOS was "must watch TV" for us every year it was on. A terrific show, with a terrific cast... Gandolfini first and foremost among them. It was the show that redefined drama on television, proving once and for all the audiences would gladly follow a flawed, grey, violent character, provided he was interesting enough. A ground-breaking show, an important show, it helped define HBO's "brand," and set the tone for many of the great HBO dramas to follow, including DEADWOOD, ROME, THE WIRE, BOARDWALK EMPIRE... and GAME OF THRONES.

Gandolfini was a fellow Jersey boy and Jets fan as well.

A huge talent. I never knew him, but I will miss him all the same.

Fan Made character for Game of Thrones
Dear, Mr. Martin
My name is Nikolas Di Domenico I am 15 and am a fan of Game of Thrones. I had a character that I made named Italo Sconosciuto. He is a 15 to 16 year old Assassin for the Assassin's Brotherhood. He is told by his master to find and Marry Arya so they can bond with the Faceless Men and the Starks. he is told that she is heading to wear the Red wedding took place. He heads there and see's the battle going on he fights to find answer of where are Arya could be. As Italo Travels more he finds Nymeria Arya's Dirwolf and bonds with it so he can find Arya. I do not have anymore idea could you help and do you think he is a good character for Game Of Thrones.

He sounds like a fun characters, Nikolas, and it's cool that you're writing stories at 15 years of age. So was I, for what it's worth. Keep at it.

You should make up your own world as well as your own characters, though. Let Italo have his own adventures in his own story, rather than tying him in with Arya and Nymeria and my cast. Worldbuilding is an important part of the writing process as well.

Good luck to you.
