Coming to San Diego

The next convention on my calendar is the San Diego Comicon.

My dance card is already almost full. Yes, there will be a GAME OF THRONES panel, and I'll be on it. It is scheduled for Friday, July 19, 2:50 to 3:45, in Hall H To be followed by an autographing at the WB booth. Of course, I'll be joined on the panel by half a dozen cast members (no, don't know which ones yet) and David and Dan.

I will also be doing a signing on Saturday, July 20, from 11:00am to noon, in the official autograph area. That one is for Bantam.

Working on two more signings: one for Avatar Comics, which will be launching their new comic of THE SKIN TRADE (based on my novella, scripted by Daniel Abraham) at the con, and one with the marvelous Gary Gianni, the artist for the 2014 ICE & FIRE calendar, which will debut in San Diego. Details on those when I have 'em.

I am not on any panels besides the one for GAME OF THRONES, nor will I be doing any readings (come to worldcon for that), but there should be plenty of chances for anyone who wants me to deface their books, maps, games, videotapes, or body parts with my illegible scrawl. But PLEASE, if you want my autograph, come to one of these four signings. Don't stop me in the hotel lobby or on the street or in a restaurant when I am trying to have dinner.

I now have the details on another of my signings, so I thought I would add them here.

On Thursday, 2:00 - 3:00 pm, I will be signing copies of the 2014 ICE & FIRE CALENDAR, together with the amazing Gary Gianni, the artist. The signing will take place at Gary's booth, Booth #4902/ 4904 on the convention floor. First come first served, as usual... Gary has only 150 copies of the calendar, and I can only be there for an hour. Though this is a signing for the CALENDAR, not my books, I will autograph ONE (1) book for anyone who buys a copy of the calendar. As in other recent events, I will be doing only signatures, no inscriptions. Sorry, I'd love to, but time does not allow. Gary may or may not be doing inscriptions, don't know, that's his call.

I can´t believe it :D
oh my god I just realised you´re coming to switzerland next year!
I live in Germany and that´s the closest thing you´re coming the next time, I suppose : )?
Have you ever been to Germany or Switzerland before? I hope you will enjoy your stay, even though it´s still some time left till you're visiting us over here :)
One thing I would recommend when you´re here is to order a good, classic bavarian beer (even though it's Switzerland, I´m pretty sure they sell bavarian beer, the swiss know very well we germans, especially bavarians, got the better breweries ;D)

You´ve got lots of fans over here, who love and adore you and your books, and we're all looking forward to see you :D

Kind Regards

P.S: I've got the Stark Blood in my veins for real! My Nana is a born Stark. Tried to explain her how epic that fact is, unfortunately she didn´t get the point in it : )

P.P.S: Sansa is my most beloved charakter like...ever <3

Capclave 2013 in Washington, DC

I'll be attending this year's Capclave in Washington, DC, which I see that you will be the "Author Guest of Honor." Will you be signing books there? Even if you aren't, I do promise not to bother you if I happen to see you at the hotel.

Re: Capclave 2013 in Washington, DC
Excellent! Thanks so much! My college roommates got me into Game of Thrones a few months ago; I binge-watched it and it's now my favorite show on TV. Additionally, I just finished reading A Game of Thrones and I'm about 100 pages into A Clash of Kings. I'm loving every page! Thanks so much for creating such great pieces of literature for the world to enjoy!!!

My husband and I will be there! :) So exciting!!

I'll be waiting to see you at Sydney Opera House in November...along with Tyrion. :P

Do me a favour and make sure that whores are mentioned at least three times in that convention. :P

Would signing a kindle be out of the question? I'm one of those people...

Keeping watch on your site as well as the blog, as I am looking forward to when (if?) the option to send books to you get signed opens again; as I'll be getting a particular edition I'd like you to 'deface'.

When you're on tour, say for "A Dance With Dragons", I can understand if you *only* sign that book. But I guess each signing varies.

hey george
I was wondering if you had an email address for fans? I also had some questions to ask you, don't worry there not personal or related to your books.

Re: hey george
It's on my website. I do read all my fan mail... but I can't possibly reply to all of it, so sad to say most emails get no answer.

Jul. 8th, 2013 12:45 am (UTC)

Hi George,

I have the calendar signing on the Calendar! :) This will go nicely with my 2013 that I bought signed during your reading in Seattle last year.

Once question, as there will only be 150 what, is there a limit 1? Was hoping to pick up extras for friends that won't be there. I certainly don't want to be greedy however but it would be an great gift for my friends.

That will be up to Gary. It's his booth, his calendars, his rules.

you need to go incognito
"But PLEASE, if you want my autograph, come to one of these four signings. Don't stop me in the hotel lobby or on the street or in a restaurant when I am trying to have dinner."

Your too famous George. you either need to hire security or wear a disguise. I wonder how many people would recognize you if you shaved your beard and colored your hair. Then you can go 'yeah I know, I look like George RR Martin, get that all the time'.

Comic Con
Sorry to say that I will miss this years Comic-Con. Haven't been to one since I left the US 15 years ago (I live in Australia now). I had been around in the early days when I was young and it was run by mostly kids at the old El Cortez Hotel in San Diego. Back then the first movie we had a chance to promote was Star Wars a year before it opened and that would eventually lead to the international recognition that the Con now enjoys. Things have changed quite a bit from those days.

Will you be in Chicago anytime in the near future? I'd love for you to deface my belongings.

Do you ever do pictures with fans? I realize there would be a high demand for that and not a lot of time, but just wondering. I think it would make my life to have a picture with my favorite author. One can only dream.

Chapters order ?
It is known (see what I did there !) that you write chapters by block : like 3/4 Sansa chapters in a row to keep the voice and tone of them all through the process before switching to another PoV...

But... do you know beforehand, more or less, the final order of the chapters or does it come to you afterwards during editing or when you've finished all the chapters covering a certain amount of time ?

I'm quite sure it's something in-between those two extremes but I'm curious to read what you could tell about it.

Re: Chapters order ?
Well, I know "an" order of chapters. But as I write, I find myself moving blocks around, so that order will change a dozen times during the writing of a novel.

Mr.Martin, exellent reading.
Today finished "Danse with dragons". Waiting continue.
"GoT" is the bomb!
Best regards from Russia. Winter is coming here)))
