A Taste of Danger

DANGEROUS WOMEN, the latest huge crossgenre anthology from Gardner Dozois and me, is scheduled for hardcover release on December 3.  But you can get an early taste of danger...

Dangerous Women

Tor.com is going to be running a series of short excerpts from some of the stories in DW.  The first of them just went up.  It's a teaser from Brandon Sanderson's novella, "Shadows For Silence in the Forests of Hell," and you can find it here:

Can we expect a excerpt from "The Princess and the Queen"? I'm incredibly excited to dive into new material around the history of Westeros.

She Wolves
Any updates on when we get to learn of the ladies of the north in the Dunk & Egg era... She-Wolves of Winterfell?!?!

Nice! Looking forward to reading about the Dance of the Dragons. But I have an unrelated question--when is the fourth Dunk and Egg story coming out? A friend has a theory that it'll be published along with the first three in a stand-alone volume.

Sorry, I had to push that one back. I will return to it after THE WINDS OF WINTER.

Working on Project B while stuck on A
I remember you once said if you hit a dead end on your primary project you would see if you could expand on one of your other monkeys.

Obviously all your attention is rightfully on TWOW. But have you added to D&E when you've hit a snag on Winds?

Take care George. Don't stress. Everything you do is wonderful and appreciated. I almost like the wait. :)

Looking forward to that, as well as the graphic novels for the first three Dunk & Egg. Will help with the wait between Winds and Dream (in addition to a season of Game of Thrones).

Do you have a title for the fourth? I believe it's unofficially known on the web as 'The She-Wolves of Winterfell' but I may be mistaken.

Which means next week, right?

Dunk and Egg
Dear Mr. Martin

Will there be a new Dunk and Egg Story included and if not when will you estimate to give us another piece of this prolog of the song of ice and fire so that we can start to torture our souls again with theorys about your epic world?

Yours sincerely Johannes Kolleritsch

P.s. Have a good time and keep your spirit high

December 3rd seems so far away, but I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. I'm also glad that the tales of Dunk and Egg are taking a back-seat for The Winds of Winter. We all appreciate your hard work George, put on another pot of coffee and keep it up!

Dangerous Women GRRM FAQ
There will be a story written by George in the anthology. It is not Dunk & Egg #4 (which will come out somewheres between The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring), but it is called 'The Princess and the Queen'.

From the ASOIAF wiki:

"The Princess and the Queen is a novella consisting of material written by George R.R. Martin for The World of Ice and Fire but cut when it ran drastically over-length. Rather than lose the material, Martin decided to publish it in his anthology Dangerous Women. It replaces the fourth Dunk and Egg short story, The She-Wolves, which will instead be published later in a different venue.
The Dance of Dragons began in 129 AL, one hundred and sixty-nine years before the events of A Game of Thrones. It was the conflict that saw most of the lesser branches of House Targaryen and almost all of its dragons destroyed.
The Princess and the Queen is a narrative history, taking place at the outbreak of the Dance of Dragons."

wonderful news...
Can't wait, I am simply an anthology junkie and yours and Gardner's are always at the top of my to read list. I am sure this one will be on many a Christmas wish list :). Always a long wait for anything exploring new areas of Westeros history. With that being said, I am also very eager to read the much anticipated World of Ice and Fire book, I know the long wait will ultimately result in a better finished product.

Thank you George! Thank you for all the hours of great entertainment.

Brandon Sanderson
Was a bit on the fence about this anthology, was mainly gonna buy it for the G.R.R Martin bit. But Sanderson as well?! Loved what he did with the Wheel of Time series, and that got me into his other stuff. Guess this is a buy for me.
