Breaking Bad and Giants
We used to write emails back and forth MANY years ago, so I just wanted to thank you now for your kindness back then. I know you're a much busier man now.
Regarding the Emmys, I kind of figured that Breaking Bad would win, though I wonder how much of it was driven by previous and current success. I thought the season that was represented in the Emmy's (not the current season) was actually the weakest, though I am loving the current one again. To be sure, it is a great show. At least you didn't lose to something shallow and mindless.
And regarding your Giants, do you think it might be time for a coaching change? I do think the Giants got a little lucky for at least one of the last super bowls. I know that luck is always a part of winning, but really, they got hot at the right time. I give them credit for doing so, but it is hard to sustain that kind of winning.

Martin Scorsese didn't get the best director Oscar until 2007.... The moral of that story is: Critics, they know nothing. Viewing figures tell it all :)

Re: Critics....
Critics don't vote for the Oscars, it's all people who work in the industry. Not sure if it's the same for the Emmys

Very happy with the Jets, but seriously, the Giants...? Poor Eli. Really glad I didn't watch that game.

Was pretty pleased with Chicago, though...well, anytime I see Rothlisberger skulk off the field I'm happy.

It isn't over.
If Winds of Winter and Dream of Spring end up being amazing and the show can execute well on that in the end, I would think you'd have a pretty good chance of winning, especially considering how many good shows are ending soon. Whether there'll be better ones to replace them is not clear.

Unlike the Giants, Game of Thrones is pure quality. So she didn't win the beauty contest. She's still the best gal in the room.

Emilia Clarke was better than Anna Gunn last season.
I'll start this off by saying Anna Gunn was great last season. Even better this season, which should be the season Breaking Bad wins big and for the last time.

But that is for next years award shows. This was supposed to be the season for Game of Thrones, and in the hearts of the fans I believe it still is. I just think Emilia had a better performance than Anna last season. It was great to see Emilia at least present an award though.

I'm a fan of all six shows that were up for the big drama award of the night. That again is Breaking Bad's award to win next season, but not for last season. But I digress....

But as for me much like you being a fan of Big Blue, I'm eagles fan and there still seems to be hope in our terrible NFC East.

Come north!
You should try watching some CFL games. It's an eight team league, and the talent level is lower than the NFL, the field is a different size, there are fewer downs, and we have the rouge. It isn't as dazzling as the NFL but it's an honest game of football.

My BC Lions beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders on the final play of the game as time ran down to zeros with a field goal to come from behind and win 24-22. A thrilling conclusion to a very hard fought game. An added advantage to watching the CFL is that Belichick and Brady don't ever play up here.

my condolences
Sorry about Sunday and the Giants huge loss. My 49ers got crushed too. I did not think GoT would lose at the Emmy's either.

No Awards for Ripping People's Hearts Out, only Satisfaction.
Sorry dude. I was watching Talking bad and heard that they won the Emmy. The girl next to me was like HA! as I was expecting Game of Thrones to totally take it.

But then I learned none at all? And during the season of the Red Wedding?!!!!

My belief is that it affected the people voting on it so much they refused to give GoT an Emmy out of pure unadulterated spite.

This just proves how deeply it affects people.

I do believe that in the entire history of the known and unknown universe that those last five words have never been uttered by anybody when discussing football. The G-men need a full-on rebuild at this point, from the GM on down. Sideshow Rex seems to have the Big Green Mess somewhat under control and playing with a modicum of discipline, and Geno's not looking bad either.

As for the Emmys, sadly it was predictable given the disdain for genre works from the elites in their ivory towers. You waz robbed!

Sorry about the Emmy snubs. Not so much about the Giants. The Bears are going to violate them in a few weeks anyway.

Valar Morghulis
They'll get what they deserve!

It's a real shame about the emmys, it was the best chance to get the best drama award. Next year it's gonna be Breaking Bad again :(

Re: Valar Morghulis
Saying it was the best chance to win is basically saying that you don't believe any future material from the series is going to top that based on A Storm of Swords. I'll keep thinking the best is still to come until proven otherwise. George said he thought this year was the best chance too, but he has enough pressure on his writing as it is.

Right there with ya.
I feel your pain man. You guys were robbed by the Emmys.
And regarding the Giants? I gotta go with Michael Strahan on that and admit they played like a bunch of high schoolers in the pro leagues.
Here's praying it'll turn around soon.

"Thank ghod for the Jets."
I'll bet you didn't think you'd be saying that this season.

Emmys, Crapshoot, Building Support
The Emmys are a total crapshoot, and we both know in the long term the awards don't mean as much. Look how long it took Breaking Bad to finally win, The Sopranos too. Once they have a show they like early on, the industry voters, it usually takes a really long time to garner enough support to beat it (case in point: Mad Men for four years, and now Modern Family in comedy for four years).

Game of Thrones is continuing to raise its profile. You will reach the pinnacle soon...and it won't necessarily be for the best season, as the Emmys have shown time and time again. Be happy that Thrones broke back into the writing category and that two actors have now been nominated. Hopefully, that support will grow after the next season, which should be immensely satisfying for viewers, especially as David and Dan find it easier to balance all the storylines and play around with episode structure.

Two things about the Emmys:
1. It's all about the tapes, six episodes for drama series then distributed in random pairs to voters. They need to be accessible and easy to follow--and for people who don't watch Thrones regularly, it's hard if episodes aren't as character focused and are more plot centric in jumping locales.

2. Strategy. This cannot be overstated. HBO needs to submit fewer episodes to directing; if only "Rains" was submitted, you would've had a nomination and possibly a win. Fincher did nothing spectacular in the House of Cards pilot and won for his name. Next year will be even more competitive up against the final season of Breaking Bad; one submission will get a nomination, make it easy for voters. Also, Emilia Clarke's episode submission was "And Now His Watch Has Ended," and she doesn't appear until 45 minutes into the tape in a 10 minute scene. Although that's a powerful moment, how can that compete with Anna Gunn's more character-driven episode which focuses on her devolving relationship with Walt for the most of the runtime?

We are all really excited for the next Game of Thrones season, especially to see which episode you will write. "Blackwater" was phenomenal television and there were so many moments this year. Fantasy material needs time to reach an undeniable level....you guys will get there with Emmy, but right now keep making great television and the awards will come.

I'm not from the US and therefore not that interested in American Football, but why are you supporting both the Jets AND the Giants? Aren't they supposed to be, you know, rivals?

It was hard to beat Breaking Bad this year, and it was really hard for Emilia Clarke to beat Anna Gun. But Peter Dinklage should've totally won. Anyway, no series generated as much comotion as GoT this year. Not even Breaking Bad (and I'm a huge fan of both). Nothing that happened in any series was as remarkable as the Red Wedding. This is an award by itself I think, although there's no trophy involved.

About the Giants, I thought Eli, Cruz, Nicks, Myers and Wilson would be one of the most respectable offenses in the league, and they score ZERO points in a game... I mean, even the Jaguars are scoring a couple of points here and there...

Eli seems to breakdown mentally too easily. When he makes his first major mistake in a game, it's all downhill from there.

The Jets may have won, but they hardly did it in style. That was a sloppy, sloppy game.
Sep. 23rd, 2013 10:54 pm (UTC)
I would have given GOT an Emmy, but then, nobody asked me. :(
Sep. 23rd, 2013 11:17 pm (UTC)
I was hoping you were going to ignore the internet for the next, oh, two years or so, just so you'd never had to see that scoreline.

I'm dissapointed too, but you know what i think George?
The 3 season is a masterpiece, and all of the fans enjoy it. The book fans and the HBO fans
This year, Brekaing Bad win with his last season, a really good job, but, the next year is for you. For all the people who make Game Of Thrones..
I'm sure, Game is the best serie i ever seen. ASOIAF is the best book i ever read, that combination.. No way they can win.

Sory for the english.. I'm from Argentina and i'm a little rusty.
