Giants 23, Vikings 7

sad sack
So the Giants finally won a game.  Yay.

I'm not taking the bag off my head yet, however.  Last night was the worst game I've seen in years.

The G-Men were horrible.  They won because the Vikings were even worse.  The Viking QB Josh Freeman especially.  He had no business being out there.  And sad to say, Eli did not look much better.  Yes, he finally had a game with no INTs... but I saw at least three balls that SHOULD have been INTs, including one that was a sure pick-six, only the Viking DBs dropped them all.  And speaking of drops, what the hell is wrong with Hakeem Nicks?  He dropped everything Eli threw him in the first half, and was only marginally better in the second.

Our running back of the week, Peyton Hillis, was the only bright spot.  Well, him and Victor Cruz, who is always a bright spot.  But even Cruz dropped a ball, on what would have been a nice TD.

Beat the Eagles next week and maybe I will believe Big Blue has woken up.  Until then... this win needs to be taken with a block of salt.

As sad as it is to be a NY Giants fan...it is even harder to be a Tigers fan...So close...

Being a Giants fan is easy. Being a Mets fan nowadays is very hard.

"It's hard to believe that some head coach was ever going to let Josh Freeman throw the ball 53 times in one game with someone named Adrian Peterson in the backfield, but apparently such a person exists."

As a European I will never understand the US peoples' fascination with American Football. Probably like many US Americans don't understand our fascination with football (or soccer as its called in the US). What's weird though, I've heard the both sides call the other sport "slow-paced". Kinda funny really.

"Soccer" isn't just an American word. What you call football is, can be, or has been called soccer in most of the English-speaking world. Wikipedia has an interesting article on "names for association football" that shows that the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Ireland all tend to use the word soccer. Probably more English speakers than not use the word soccer.

Anyway, that's just a pet peeve.

I was mostly talking about its usage in Europe :)

I wanted to watch the game. I really did. But then I realized that it was going to be even shittier than my worst fears -- far beyond what even Schadenfreude could redeem -- and I fled the room. Read a book instead.

I didn't see the game, but I can quote Chris DeBarr's reaction to it: "This Giants-Vikings is the Ed Wood of all football games. Pathetic & unintentionally hilarious."

Maybe the teams were worried the roof would fall in again.

Agreed, but at least this victory gets them off the schneid. At this point I'll take an ugly win over 10,000 style points in a loss.

Am I the only one who things the Vikings should go with Matt Cassel? Yeah, he had a few bad seasons, but I still think he is a decent QB.

Maybe Frazier should fly down to Mississippi and beg Brett Favre to come out of retirement again. He hasn't done that for... oh... years.

I'm surprised that Woody Johnson hasn't.

Brett Farve
You must've been on to something because I heard that St.Louis Rams have contacted Farve about filling in for injured Bradford.

Vikes fan here. The general consensus is that none of the three QBs are really an option. I advocated for Ponder when he was drafted, but he just can't shake it as a starter. Cassel is a bit more polished, though people forget that he was absolutely awful last year on a very talented team (as you can see this year). Josh Freeman *is* intriguing, with his cannon arm and his prior success, but he's not going to save the season this year. Might as well start him and let him get his bearings with the team if they feel he's a long-term option.

Aside from all that, most people feel like it's time for Leslie Frazier and most of his coaching staff to go anyway. Poor play calling, complete lack of fire, reluctance to play talented rookies... they just don't seem to want to win.

No offense, but it didn't seem like a pro football game. Seemed like two (bad) college football teams strugling to get anything done.

Next sunday, if the Packers want, they can put up the worst humiliation in the history of the rivalry. Vikes D is gonna be absolutely helpless against Rodgers and Lacy, and the Packers D is not letting RB's be a factor in games.

Btw George, I remember you wanted the Jets to get Lacy in the draft. I hadn't heard from him before that post of yours, and now I'm REALLY glad my Packers got that guy. He's been amazing so far.

The consensus among UK NFL fans on Twitter was it was the worst Monday night game ever.

I'm happy for the Giants.

But the bag on my head grows even heavier for the Jaguars. When every article that is in print about them begins with the word "hapless" you know there's a big problems. Somehow I don't think playing in London this weekend is going to help one tiny bit.

Congrats Eli and the Giants. We'll miss you down here at the bottom of the pile.

I disagree about Eli. The dropped Pick Six was his fault, but the other balls that could have been picked were because the receiver fell or the ball went through their hands.

I thought with one exception he was very smart with the ball. The line, on the other hand, was terrible.
