I missed yesterday's NFL action.  I was up on Melinda's mountain with  my Wild Cards writers, hammering out the plot of HIGH STAKES, our next mosaic novel.  Didn't see a single play.

Probably a good thing.

The Jets lost ignominiously to the Bengals.  After a great game against the Pats, Geno Smith reverted to being terrible.  And Andy Dalton and guys in stripes shredded and embarrassed the vaunted Jets D.

The Giants won over the Iggles and their third-string QB.  Hard to celebrate this one.  They did not even score a TD, winning with five (5) field goals.  And yet somehow at 2-6 there are people talking about the G-Men making a run for the playoffs.  Hoo hah.  Yes, they are "only" two games out, but only because everyone else in the NFC East is terrible as well.  Even those two recent victories have not been encouraging... the Giants played badly in both, and only won because the other team played even worse.   So, no, I do not think Big Blue is about to make a Super Bowl run.  If you do, I have some great real estate on Mars I would like to sell you.

I'm off to Australia and New Zealand shortly, for almost a month of appearances down there, so I'm going to miss pretty much all of the NFL action in November.  The way this season has been going, I don't think I'm going to miss much at all.

You didn't miss much. Now, I fully admit that yesterday I was full of antipathy due to a carb hangover from the NYC pizza crawl, but watching the Giants-Eagles game was the worst kind of torture. Just a giant meaty tumbleweed of incompetence bouncing around the field dressed in red, white and blue.

Never mind the Giants, tell us about the pizza crawl. How many places did you visit? What were your favorites?

Five places, all in Brooklyn. Totonno's, L&B Spumoni Garden, DiFara, Paulie Gee's, and Roberta's. We got margherita (or equivalent) at all places; L&B Spumoni Garden we got Sicilian pizza.

Best was DiFara. Second was L&B Spumoni Garden (sauce was especially excellent). Then probably Roberta's for overall taste and Totonno's for the crust. I'll have to revisit Paulie Gee's -- by the time we got to their pie, I declared that I never wanted to see pizza again. Of course, today I am craving it. We'll probably do a Manhattan crawl this weekend, because I like punishment.

"If you do, I have some great real estate on Mars I would like to sell you."
That sentence there reminded me of a Vorkosigan novel, have you perchance read any, and did you like them? They've defined my childhood reading, and I'm thinking of rereading them, but I'm slightly scared they won't be as great now as they were when I was a kid.

Or is that just some American phrase that's commonly used, and I've just blundered in completely off-topic?

The NFL's internet streaming thing GamePass is currently free in New Zealand. So providing you are at hotels with decent internet, you can catch your games on demand.

Jets.
Yep. The Jets are only good for a Triple Word score in Scrabble

I am too saddened by the collapse of the Cowboys to properly talk any smack to you after your pre-season message to me that the Giants and 'Skins would control the division. It's a race to see who's least bad in the East and the Cowboys seem to be it, though marginally at best.

Oh, New Zealand too? The "tour dates/appearances" section on your website mentions only Australia.

Packers
My Packers are doing pretty well, Giants have had the better of us in some playoffs but hopefully Nov 17th we can kick them while they're down.
