Getting Crazy

Much as I like travel -- well, at least the part where I'm in some cool place, I have actually come to hate the process of getting there, thanks to the airlines and the TSA and such -- getting ready for a trip is always Crazy Time around here.  There is always too much to do, and too little time to do it in, and no matter how hard you try, something always gets forgotten.  And it's worse when it's a LONG trip, like this jaunt to Australia and New Zealand.

Which is my long-winded way of saying that I have so damn much to get done today that I don't even think I can watch football.

So let me go work.

Meanwhile, I will leave you with a fun trailer for next weekend's late movie at the Jean Cocteau.  Sad to say, I won't be here to see it... but you should.

~As long as you don't forget your passport and your travellers cheques or card, you're good to go. The lighter you travel, the better. You can purchase the necessary from there if you forget. Otherwise, the hotel staff will provide..~

Good luck and be safe! Bon Voyage!

Yes getting down under is rather an ordeal. It cracks me up that everyone lives on the edges and the vast middle is desolate. But you have extreme loyal fans all over the world & it is great you go all around to greet them. No, my tongue is not planted in my cheek. All work & no play is not good for anyone.

Don't let the bastards get you down, Ser. We all have to play the part of Reek when at TSA screening points--your literature is so timely some times.

Also, Julia Dietze as Renate in Iron Sky... I'll just say: mood: horny.

I hope you enjoy your stay at those countries and forget about the airport police until you have to come to the states all over again.

Iron Sky is wonderfully silly. Speaking of getting crazy, might I suggest "Get Crazy" as a New Year's Eve movie for the Jean Cocteau, in memory of Lou Reed?

I'm presuming you originate at The Sunport in Albuquerque, so at least you aren't dealing with a huge airport until your first connection.

I find I much prefer starting and ending in San Diego (where I live now) or Albuquerque (where I grew up) than I did in Chicago (where I spent much of my adult life) just due to the size of the airport.

The Sunport is a nice airport, all things considered, and much easier to take than a madhouse like DFW, LAX, or O'Hare. On the other hand, those places all have direct flights to many many destinations. Flying out of ABQ, nine times out of ten you need to connect through one of the zoos in any case. Whoever came up with the "hub" model for commercial air travels should burn in seven hells.

Indeed, people should go see Iron Sky. Me, being in Europe, have the advantage of having it on Blu-Ray. It's hilarious and yet amazingly well done for a project which was not at all funded by a major studio. Actually, the CGI on Iron Sky alone, puts to shame tons of Hollywood produced films with monstrous budgets.
And if you've watched a little masterpiece called "Der Untergang" (Downfall), you'll get some bonus laughs from it ;D

re: traveling
two words: packing list.

Seriously. Throw it on your laptop, and update it every trip. You'll benefit immensely.

I never pack until the last minute, and trust me, arriving in Europe with only the underwear you have on is no fun.

Have fun!
Thanks, George, for your endorsement and for picking Iron Sky for screening - those of you who have a chance to go see it - have fun at the movies!

I recently travelled from Spain to Argentina and it is really a pain. I don't mind the flight itself, even if it is as long as that. All the pre and post flight in the airport is freaking annoying. So, I really feel your pain.

Yeah I've seen "Iron Sky"...a good, silly, crazy type of movie, a combination of alternate sci-fi and steampunk! A good time to be had...space Nazis...ya, ya ya! LOL

I hope you have a(or many) safe voyage! And don't trip, TSA agents can't help (some of them) be constipated and general douchebags...have you seen their paycheck?!?!?

Hi George! Glad to see you coming to Adelaide. You will love it here.

Some fun 'westeros related' facts on South Australia. We have a football team called the "Adelaide Crows" (we were terrible this year) . We are also called Crow-eaters, although some may find its use derogatory.

I really enjoyed Iron Sky, good film all around but the North Korea joke just capped it off.
