Last Day in New Zealand

We're headed home tomorrow.  I shudder to think of all the email and mail and work that awaits me.  But it;s time… I have started to dream of green chile.

Yes, I am aware of the SOUTH PARK episodes.  No, haven't seen them yet.  THere's been no time for TV down here.  But I will get to them eventually, no doubt.  Till then I live in fear.

Yes, I am aware that my football teams continue to suck.

Save some of those green chiles for us!! And safe travels. :)

Green chile, sounds like an alien chile to me.. hahah! (Kidding)

Ba Ram you!
:) Did you see any of their Sheep? NZ is very Sheep friendly apparently. I understand they have laws to treat them humanely. Unlike Australia. which is great for NZ. Travel safely Ser Martin & Lady Parris (if ye be with yer old man).

We all saw your picture in Hobbiton! It caused a riot on the internet with you inside a hobbbit hole!

Not sure how you're email is set up, but why not go through it remotely on your flights? Travel is boring and tedious. It's a productive use time on a long flight. That way, it doesn't pile up. :)

Green Chili
I miss NM so much. I miss the vista. I miss the taste of the air. Yet, I miss Green Chili the most.

You are 'poorly handled' in the south park episode. Not so poorly handled as Bono mind you, but it is pretty bad. Best wishes ;)
Nov. 27th, 2013 01:29 am (UTC)
Ah, green chiles! We are lucky to have a New Mexican restaurant nearby that gets their chiles shipped from Hatch :)

I fear for 2 new characters
I fear for 2 new characters, names will be similar to Parker and Stone, that will die on most brutal way in upcoming book :-)

Hope you had a great time. I would love to visit middle-earth.

Also, by looking at your site things seem quiet travel wise so I hope things go well on creative front for the next 5 months or so

Winds Of Winter
Hello Mr.Martin I just wanted to say that despite the fact that I am anxiously awaiting The Winds Of Winter please take your time to make this book live up to the bar which you have set for yourself and don't allow your fan's who are as anxious or even more anxious than I am for the next book to rush you into anything.

As a lover of all things GOT and South Park I have to say those two episodes have been awesome. They had me laughing out loud throughout especially during the choir scene. Safe travels and good luck getting through the stacks of email.
Nov. 27th, 2013 04:47 am (UTC)
Heads up on the verde chile, Ser. There's been a major salmonella scare on tomatillos in the southeast. Number of hospitalizations among lovers of the Velvet Verde. Unfortunately it's not getting as much play as the tomato scare several years ago. So you and the Phipps be safe... I hope you two have a taste tester in residence.

Re: South Park. Could have been a lot worse... I don't think Trey or Matt were aware of the New Yorker article. I kept waiting for those few knighted members of the BWB to make an appearance and quickly and violently get dispatched, Southpark style. Would have been cool if that happened. My one claim to fame. Next to frozen yogurt and my ladiez, of course.

To think I was eating a Rancher’s Melt with green chile at Flying Star while reading this...

South Park
Oh George! You know you have made it when you make an appearance on South Park! Let all of us know what you think when you see it?
Nov. 27th, 2013 07:33 am (UTC)
Hope you enjoyed your trip down under and down in Bag End :)

Random Question
Hey George, I was wondering if you will be in NM December 21st? The reason why I ask is because the Washington State Cougars could have their bowl game down there and I would most likely go if the Cougs are invited. I would really love the chance to at least shake your hand and say thank you for your work in person. I hope you had a great trip and if the Cougs are headed to NM, at the very least I'll be swinging by the Jean Cocteau for a flick! Thanks!

I hope you had such a good time in Australia that you'll come back soon and include Western Australia! (I heard you sigh "No dear, you should of come to me")

On another happy note, I just got an e-mail telling me Dangerous Women is in the mail! woot!

mmmm chile
Don't be fearful - it's awesomely funny and they obviously like you. Look what they did to Tom Cruise ? It's waaaaaaaaay not as bad as that.

Have safe travels xxxxx lots of love xxx

Re: mmmm chile
Nearly busted a gut at the episode, though parts were a little gross. They left us on a cliffhanger: I hope those five pizzas arrive in time!

Expect a bit of tasteless jokes. Otherwise it's pretty fun.

south park
I think that Matt Stone and Trey Parker read the books and are as impatient as many other fans. They certainly captured the spirit of your writing style in the last couple minutes of episode 2/3
Nov. 27th, 2013 04:04 pm (UTC)
Trey and Stone are definitely fans of the Game Of Thrones show, but after watching their episode I doubt they've read the books. :)

Any credibility to a rumor of a new game with Telltale Games?
I recently read an "article" about a rumor that Telltale Games (behind the genious Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us games) are working on a Game of Thrones title.

Nothing to fear.
I'm sure you've gotten it a lot by now, but you should be proud of the episodes. You look better than ever and sure know how to tell a story :) You can tell they were done with nothing but respect and love.

As a Pats fan
What a fantastically delicious weekend.

And safe travels back home, capt'n!
Nov. 27th, 2013 05:28 pm (UTC)
Yeah, Trey and Matt are fans, you can tell. Nowadays it's almost an honor for them to throw a parody of someone (though if they ever made a parody of myself, I'd insist of doing the voice no matter how ridiculous the subject is). As for your New York teams, at least you're not the Packers right now.. Glad to hear you had fun in NZ!

but Family Guy [no spoilers]
yeah, but did you hear about Family Guy? I saw the fallout of that character death and immediately told my Facebook world "I blame George R R Martin." (like the sarcasm font, I haven't invented the "just teasing" font either.)
Nov. 27th, 2013 08:31 pm (UTC)
There's word that Telltale might be making a Game of Thrones/SoIaF game. I don't know if you have anything to do with the decision making on that kind of thing anymore, but if you do, well chosen.

I know you're not much of a gamer anymore, so I'll just say the Telltale Walking Dead game released last year won a whole slew of 'game of the year' awards based upon its story, characters and tough decisions. It was brilliantly done, enough so that I actually greatly prefer it to the Walking Dead TV series and comics. I don't think Telltale could write a story equal to yours, of course, but if given the chance to do something original in Westeros I definitely think they could do it justice better than almost anyone.

South Park
"You" are in the second episode, and I'm assuming you'll be in the third episode that airs next Wednesday. While the episodes are hilarious (some of their funniest in a while), your portrayal doesn't make that much sense. Apparently you're obsessed with wieners. Also, I think the pizzas you order are supposed to be a metaphor for finishing your books...this probably doesn't make any sense now, but it will when you watch it.

Are there any plans to put more of the WildCards books onto the Kindle? I read the first 3 on there, but after that only the most recent are available.

I heard that previous problems arose after switching publisher's, is that still the case?

Thanks regardless, I really enjoyed them.

(I know that you prefer comments to be related to the blog post, sorry. I didn't see any recent wild cards posts)

P.S. I'm buying Tuf Voyaging for my Dad at Christmas, should be a great present. Thanks.

I don't think the portrayal is meant to be anything but a fanboy rant about wanting things quicker. If they were actually trying to take a shot at George, it would be very different.

They only show reverence for awful things, like Saddam Hussein.

Life in Bayonne Time Line
Saw your timeline about life in Bayonne. Someone posted on Facebook. Brought back memories. I left in 1969. Have lived in Stone Mtn, GA, Miami, FL and Minneapolis. Back in FL again. Still haven't found another place like Bayonne. It was a different world. My parents moved to Bayonne in 1920's as they couldn't afford Jersey City. Congrats on your success. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to create a book about another world, yet alone a whole series. I guess the Marist Brothers taught us something. If you get down to Orlando or Tampa drop me a note. We keep losing too many of the people from Marist, too soon.

glad to hear the trip is going well, I know you are eager to get back to the states and your green chiles. I figured you had heard about the South Park episode, haha, you will enjoy it I am sure. All in good fun.

Dream of Chile
I haven't tried green chile before! I wonder if maybe I should do a google recipe search. Speaking of cooking, I recently picked up a Feast of Ice and Fire and yes! Those lemon cakes are yum.

Super envious of your trip 'Down Under', by the way. I've considered doing that very convention tour myself being as they are timed so conveniently... make it a bit of a 'work holiday'... but at the same time, just the idea of planning it all stresses me out!

I hope you had a fantastic trip, and that you were left with enough energy to go out and enjoy a lot of the sights and sounds while you were down there. Cheers!
