Super Bowl Sunday!

It's here at last!  Super Bowl Sunday, the holiest day of the year... and this year, in the swamps of New Jersey, we will get the confrontation I have so long dreamed of, the SUBWAY SUPER BOWL, pitting the New York Giants against the New York Jets for all the....

Oh, wait.  That;s not this world, that's the alternate world I like to visit from time to time, the one where GAME OF THRONES has won three Emmys in a row, THE WINDS OF WINTER was finished a year ago, there's a base on the moon and a spaceship headed for Mars, and I don't have enough space on my mantle for all the Hugos, Pulitzers, and Nobel Prizes.

In THIS world, the real one, it's the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos.

Should be a pretty good game in any case.  Offense versus defense, the classic battle.  Can Eli's big brother win another ring, to match Eli?

Enjoy the game, folks.  Enjoy the commercials, if you're not a football fan.  Enjoy the pizza, beer, brats, chips & salsa, chile con queso, hot wings, etc.

Happy Super Sunday.

AFTER THE GAME.  Wow.  Didn't expect that.  They must be dancing in the streets in Seattle.  Great defense beats great offense, once again.  Wasn't much of a game, though.  Denver looked awful.

On to the NFL Draft!

Careful what you wish for
Believe me,long ago I wished for my two favorite teams to meet in the Superbowl and guess what... They met... and it was painful because no matterwhat your team loses but you do have to pick one over the other. Also the perfect season was ruined... and then they met again and it still sucked!

Enjoy the game, Mr. Martin.

I haven't been this excited for a Super Bowl since the last time the Colts were in it...Hopefully we get to see Peyton Manning, the greatest qb of all time, win another ring! It will be a great game though!

Are you rooting for either team?
Or just hoping to see a good game?

Reading between the lines...
Damn you, Ser,

My eyes tend to see the whole text while reading, and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw "THE WINDS OF WINTER was finished a year ago".

Why would you play these games ? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ?

Superbowl viewing party
Viewing party at the Cocteau? Just throwing the idea out there...
Feb. 2nd, 2014 09:37 pm (UTC)
Re: Superbowl viewing party
Illegal. You cannot show NFL games on anything larger than a 55 inch screen. I know, I know. Take it up with Roger Goodell.

Re: Superbowl viewing party
and what size screen do YOU have? viewing party at GRRM'S! predict the score / winner and get a free chapter! (wishful thinking)

Re: Superbowl viewing party
how is that legal? I don't recall signing a contract with the networks or with Roger Goodell? So anyone who throws a superbowl party and plays the game on a 70 inch TV is breaking the law?

Re: Superbowl viewing party
Hmmm A Small Local theater here in Seattle was showing it. Not sure if they were aware of the prohibition on the larger screen size.

Cant wait for the game. Very much hoping for a good one. If my Redskins cant be in it (and wont likely be for many eons), at least we have two very well matched teams to watch. Monday should be a holiday!

Which of the teams are you going for George? Enjoy the game, and enjoy the week!
Feb. 2nd, 2014 07:43 pm (UTC)
Ha ha happy memories of you leaping from your seat shouting ELIIIIIIIII while I was sporting the wrong team colours. Have fun George,
Feb. 2nd, 2014 07:50 pm (UTC)
Excited as well
Can't wait! I don't have a preference or particular dislike for either team this year, so it will just be fun to watch, regardless of the result. That being said, at first look at this post ""THE WINDS OF WINTER" caught my eye and the words "was finished" afterwards got me really excited for a second, until I saw their context. Oh well. It will be a great day when I look at this blog and see that as a headline to a blog post! Anyway, hope you enjoy the Game George!

...THE WINDS OF WINTER was finished a year ago,...

I know, I know, I shouldn't ask this, but...are you implying something? ;)

On Topic: I will watch the Super Bowl too (after midnight), although as a German I don't know much about AF apart from the basic rules. But it's always such a huge spectacle (however, I still prefer the Champions League final).

Thank you for sharing some positivity at the end, Mr. Martin!
Feb. 2nd, 2014 08:26 pm (UTC)
Broncos, please don't fail me: I need this game. And don't win by less than seven.
Feb. 2nd, 2014 09:03 pm (UTC)
Fantastic! No blizzard though.

Enjoy the game and the food!
Feb. 2nd, 2014 10:26 pm (UTC)
So it is the Broncos and not the Giants...
I am not big on the game, but your post was very funny and the snacks are indeed good today. Hope the teams manage to keep you happily enthralled for a bit. Good luck on your dream team match for next year.

You think YOUR alternate universe is a stretch. . .
Be glad you've got two great NJ teams. I'm stuck with the Browns.

Enjoy your game, Ser!
Feb. 3rd, 2014 02:52 am (UTC)
I would gladly take a Jets vs Giants Superbowl if it meant The Winds of Winter was finished! :)
Feb. 3rd, 2014 03:34 am (UTC)
Was it just me or did Eli look completely crushed there towards the end? Then again - so did Peyton...
I gotta say, I was hoping the Seahawks would take the game, but no so decisively... I prefer closer games, and this one was just embarrassing...

From Russia
I like GAME OF THRONES, i like football. Mr. Martin, greetings to you from Russia from your fan!

Definitely also wish I was in the world when the Giants were in the Super Bowl and Winds of Winter was finished. Maybe soon!
Feb. 3rd, 2014 05:44 am (UTC)
the game was kind of flat, it' was almost as bad as the last time the broncos lost big (to my Niners!), but it was fun to see how much the Seattle Players were enjoying it. Manning looked grim (Totally thinking Stannis), and the broncos could not buy a touchdown. The second Half opening play where Seattle ran it back for a touchdown was priceless, you could feel the air go out of the broncos.

Unfortunately only the Budweiser Commercials were any good.

Great Sadness
As a Broncos fan I feel like the world is meaningless and full of pain, but I give Seattle credit for taking it to my beloved Broncos. They did what they had to do to win, and in this case it meant taking advantage of miss cues, and destroying their opponent.

Haven't been this sad since reading a particular something written by a writer that this blog belongs to haha.

In seriousness though it was nice to see my team in the Super Bowl again. I don't think it's right to complain about choking in that one special game, because so many others don't get to experience the choke at all.

P.S. Just like House Lannister, House Manning always pays their debts. The Broncos will ride again...

Even with no skin in the game I thought it was a fantastic Superbowl. Knowing how good Denver was on offense how could any football fan not enjoy that game. Other than the botched snap for a safety it was a technical masterpiece by Seattle.

Congratulations to the Seahawk fans. You can be proud to have an ownership and a sports organization that will continue to be stellar unlike Jets fans. Yes, I went there.

I was surprised at the score, sure enough, but I found it an entertaining Super Bowl. Love a good defense and loved how the 'Hawks got points just about every way you can in a football game. And it was good to see Percy Harvin back up to speed!

Yup. There was definitely plenty of dancing in the streets of Seattle last night. And there will be even more Wednesday at the big Super Bowl parade.

I've been a 12th Man my whole life, and it was great to see them finally take home the trophy. That said, I was hoping for a more entertaining game. By the third quarter I just wanted to put the Broncos out of their misery. I wanted to watch what my second favorite writer, Patrick Rothfuss, would call "a beautiful game." Instead I watched the Hawks make glue.

We're all just happy that Winds of Winter got a mention, even sarcastically.

John Idzik used to work in the Seattle front office
He is the Jets GM. He helped draft some of those players. There is an NY Post article about how he wants to recreate that with the jets. Lets see if he can. He will almost certainly need a better QB. He blew it with his QB pick last year.

That first snap made me extremely suspicious that it was going to be like the Super Bowls of the 80s and 90s, but without the great commercials.

In my alternate universe
It was the 49ers playing the Broncos. *sigh*

Book #6:
Am wondering is book #6 and I apologize I do not know the title coming out or has it come out already? There seems to be a disagreement in my household with my mom insisting book #6 is indeed out and is being sold at Barnes and Noble. My dad and I went to Barnes and Noble in Brandon, Fl. this morning and the information person metioned book #6 is indeed out but only being sold in a box set? We also went to the Super Target right across from Barnes and Noble and did not find the book there either. Plus, I was on Barnes and Nobles website as well as yours for further information however, I only found that book #6 is being sold in a set.

Can you clarify this for me? Would Greatly Appreciate it very much. Although, I do not read the books, I do LOVE the HBO series and cannot wait until April 04, 2014 for the new season to begin. This season looks more fantastic than the last.

I was saddened about Katherine, her son Jon and Jon's wife being killed, however, after talking with my dad, I understand it better now.

Anyway, Thank You for any help you can provide,

Tricia M. Gerbino

Definitely a lot of Dancing in the Streets here! Being Seattle we were still apprehensive going into the 2nd half but the partying went into full swing with Percy's TD on the kickoff!

Interesting 12th Man references in the game.
Seahawks scored 12 sec into the first & second half's and first touchdown was 12:00 into the game! Russell finished with 206 yards passing (Seattle Area Code):)

Streets were danced in...
...and then the parade yesterday was absolutely off the hook. 700,000 people cramming into downtown Seattle for a 2 mile Seahawks love-fest. We only get to do these once every 35 years in Seattle, so we took advantage.

Now onto the Olympics and then season 4!!
