Farewell to the Iron Islands

ape
Fans of fake history rejoice.  I am finally done with the Iron Islands.

And why does that make me so pleased?  Well, because it was the last little bit I had to write for our long-awaited and much-postponed concordance, THE WORLD OF ICE & FIRE.  Which we've been working on (along with many other things) lo, these many years.  ((And yes, yes, it's late, what else is new?  Please do not blame my faithful collaborators, Elio Garcia and Linda Antonsson.  They finished their part ages ago, and tossed the ball to me.  What can I say?  I remain as slow as ever.  And I added a lot.))

Anyway, it's done at last.  At least the writing part.  Now it is all in the hands of the artists, and our valiant editor Anne Groell.  (This will be a coffee table book, heavily and lavishly illustrated, so there's LOTS of art)).

World of Ice and Fire jkt - ElioLinda 1

Assuming we don't run into any problems with the art, THE WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE will be released this fall.  October, I think, but don't quote me on that.

And HEY, this means another monkey is off my back.  Only a couple left gibbering up there now.  That little joker monkey, HIGH STAKES.  And... gulp...

SON OF KONG.

Congrats!
I can't wait to read the World of Ice and Fire (it may be the most anticipated for me) because I love having a solid background to the stories I'm reading. I love getting lost in your world and can't wait for whatever comes out next!

Excellent!
I look forward to it as well. I roleplay Game of Thrones on Second life. This will definitely be a nice solid background info for the houses and such. Great job ;D All hail the kong *laughs*

GREAT
Really. BTW I love that artwork. It was the first one I saw of the throne room, before HBO's (which is also quite fantastic). I rejoiced to hear the echoes of the footsteps and of the smallfolk's pleading. Those little details...

A question you might not want to answer - is this what all the rumours about Winds was about? I didn't believe them but... you know... a boy can dream...

Keep up the good work, ser!

Congratulations
Well done and congrats, very much looking forward to getting my copy, the history of all that came pre-plot has always been something I've enjoyed, about yours works and Tolkien's, especially certain characters having certain allegorical similarities to people from our own history. Once again, Congrats and well done. Hope them monkeys don't start hollering too hard.

Totally agree, I've been waiting for something like this because the characters in the novels feel no need for exposition. They just gloss over topics like the Green Men and details surrounding Robert's Rebellion (how did Rhaegar supposedly kidnapped Lyanna?). I hope there are some details to fill in the blanks!

Looking forward to the world book, and really dig the cover. Hell, I'm looking forward to seeing what the table of contents will be to get an idea of areas covered.

And, when appropriate, looking forward to "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" info.

Excited
Will it have some Essos history as well, or only Westeros?

Either way, really excited for this.

Re: Excited
Essos too. The "Other Lands" section is quite long. I was going to drop it, but Elio, Linda, and my editors changed my mind.

Sounds good. I'm hoping there'll be an ebook edition as a well as a treebook one as bulky art-packed coffee table books aren't always that easy on the wrists when you're reading them

Have you named the Thousand Islands?
Have you named the Thousand Islands?

And are there some cool vampire stories from the Cities of the Bloodless Men?

Much Thanks
This is wonderful news.

After reading "The Princess and the Queen" and some of the transcripts of your earlier readings from "The World of Ice and Fire", the hunger for this history book was greatly increased.

Thank you so very much for all the hard work you (and your fellows) have put in.

I am really looking forward to more on The Kings of Winter, extensive family trees of the Great Houses of Westeros, History and Fall of Valyria and it's cities, and hopefully extra information about Asshai under the Shadow.

I did fabricate my own Targaryen family tree after reading TPATQ ( just to make sense of it all to myself, but I'm sure there will be some more surprises waiting to be revealed in this book.

Thanks again for everything.
