One More Peek at Season Four

enthroned
HBO unveiled another trailer for season four tonight, just before the finale of TRUE DETECTIVE.  (And what a helluva series that was).

For those poor souls who do not have HBO, as a public service, here you go:

I loved it, myself.  But I'm hardly an objective audience.

Giddy
Those siege lines are a thing of beauty. And True Detective's season-ending dialogue about darkness vs. light definitely jives with GoT's ice vs. fire theme.

Quick spoiler-free question regarding the series, if you don't mind: was Robert Baratheon's post-rebellion claim to the throne based primarily on his heritage or was it rather right by conquest? It seems the prevailing attitude is that it's the former, but I always got the impression that his heritage was purely a coincidence.

Re: Giddy
I think when planing the rebellion they chose Robert as the king because he had the closest connection to the Targeryens, his great grandmother or something like that, pretty sure this is in the books.
So if Ned or Jon Arryn had been closer relatives of the Targeryens then either of them would have been the king.

Re: Giddy
Both I think. It's officially his right as having dragon blood on him and being the firstborn -- Aerys and Steffon, Bob's father, were first cousins --, but he really likes to say it was his warhammer. Succession laws are complicated, and fickle. The Dance of the Dragons exemplifies it pretty well.
