Season 4... in Spain

Canal +, which broadcasts A GAME OF THRONES in Spain, has done some interesting and unusual TV spots for season four.

I thought you folks might like a look at them, even if (like me) you don't speak any Spanish.

Pretty cool, I thought.

Okay, I guess I am the biggest nerd ever, because this brought tears to my eyes (and memories, I watched GoT in Spain spanish (different from the one we speak here at Mexico)last summer while I was at Madrid), hahaha.

Okay, the title of the first one is "Invocation", they say: "I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men.", the closing part at the end says: "If you live it, it's real."

The second one says "Apparition", again, the closing part at the end says: "If you live it, it's real."

Loved these, thanks for sharing them, George!

I am Spaniard and I wish to had been able to participate at that ad!!

I watch the show with some friends and we were tuning the introcing theme the whole time. So high five to the composer! He has done a great job.

Fun Fact
I'm from Spain and I've been seeing those spots for several weeks now. They did a great work.

By the way, Canal + premiered season 4 last week, in English with Spanish subtitles, and a lot of people were outraged about it. Really sad. They'd rather wait several weeks for each episode just to get an inferior, dubbed version :(

The Night Watch vows in Spanish sound pretty cool. I'll have to look them up in Romanian now.

Dragon lore
Mr. George R.R. Martin,
I was curious regarding the dragon lore in your books. Are dragons able to consume and digest raw meat? or do they have to burn it before consuming?

Cool! For those who don't speak any spanish, what they are saying in the first video is this part of the Night's Watch vows: 'I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men'.

Thanks for seeing the spots in our Country!!

Hey, speaking of foreign language versions ...
I'll admit I haven't got to the point with my "Game of Thrones" DVDs as I have with my "Deadwood" ones, where I watch episodes in the other languages, sometimes with the English subtitles. But since they're both from HBO, this might pertain to your box sets as well.

I can't find any credits for the foreign voice actors or the translators.

Re: Hey, speaking of foreign language versions ...
After posting that, I checked out the DVDs' French and Spanish tracks. Now I'm even more curious, since the dubbing is so tight.

And I wonder: Did Iain Glen do the French-language voice for Jorah Mormont? If not, they found a very close match.

(The Spanish voice in the same scene is comical, if you're used to the original. It's a really bass guy.)

I'm Italian and I don't speak Spanish too, but this was pretty easy to understand as the two languages are kind of "relatives". First one is the Night's Watch oath, second one announces the fourth season with a pay off that sounds like "if you live it, it is real"

I'm actually looking for a job, I'm not a translator, but I can manage with most everything else... that is, if you might be interested ;)

Meaning of the TV spots
The first TV spot it's called Invocation and the people it's singing the theme while some of them say the vows of the Night's Watch. They say this part: I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men.

The second one it's called Appearance and at the end it says: If you live it, it's true.
I understand it because I'm spanish :P

Great trailer! Part of me wishes I lived in Spain to be part of the group singing that awesome song. Hats off to Ramin Djawadi.

The awesome that they are not actors, they are spanish fans and they did it for free.

On the first video the are saying the night's watch oath.

Invocación + Aparición

I'm the sword in the darkness.
I'm the watchman of the wall.
I'm the fire against the coldness.
The light that brings the dawn.
The horn that wakes up those sleeping.
the shield that protects the kingdoms of men.

The second one repeats the same theme IF YOU LIVE IT. IT'S TRUE

I'm Spanish and I didn't know about this. In the first video they are just saying the vows of the Night's Watch and in the second one the only thing they say is the following "If you feel it, it's true. A GAME OF THRONES, 4th season, in CANAL + series".

It's great you like them.

In the first video, we are making the Night's Watch swear, but in spanish :)

I'm the girl of curly blond hair that says "la luz que trae el amanecer" ("the light that brings the dawn").
In spanish, the swear is a little bit different.

Happy to see you like it.

Re: Cool!
I Speak spanish, and i must say it is a pretty cool ad campaing xD. Specially the one with the people saying the night`s watch vows

That last one's great. I was told all the extras are actual fans of the show and books who voluntarily applied to appear on that promo.

I was wondering, Mr. Martin, whether you are into any other tv shows right now, Game of Thrones left apart. Thought you could recommend me one or two. Not trying to compromise you here!

Gig 'Em
cool tv spots, music is the universal language...

The Houston Chronicle ran a good article this past Sunday on Texas A & M University's archives of your material--I love that they have named the area containing your things "the Wall." Almost enough to make a UT grad visit...my Grandpa was an Aggie so I can be okay with the them having the best fantasy materials in Texas...I guess.

Aparación is appearance
For non spanish-speakers, they are saying the oath of the Night's Watch (dubbed version)

I was going to share this on the post you made about The Hound and the KFC ad, but since it's frozen, I thought I'd share this here. While I was at Steel City Con in Pittsburgh, there was a gentleman walking around dressed as The Hound and he was carrying around a bucket of KFC chicken. I couldn't help but take a picture.

While we're at TV series: why TV series Stannis is so unlikable compared to book Stannis? Book Stannis is a jerk, but he has a lot of redeeming qualities, while TV series Stannis has none - except love for his daughter maybe.

When I think about it, other Baratheon brother was also way more unlikable in TV show than in the book.

I know TV series are just based on the books and don't have to follow them in 100% and I accept that. I'm currious what are the reasons behind those changes, though.

Brilliant ad. It's awesome yet moving at the same time. I think humming the Game of Thrones intro theme is something a lot of fans do at one point or another. Not only is the song itself beautiful and moving but the show that follows it is amazing so I whenever I hear it I'm overwhelmed with excitement and anticipation.

I was wondering recently what they'd call the Night's Watch in Italian since I know they dub all their shows. Now that I've heard the Night's Watch vow recited in Spanish I think I'll watch some episodes dubbed in Spanish and Italian just for kicks. I usually don't really care for dubbed stuff but I think in this case it may be fun.

I listen to enough Mexican radio & been 6 weeks in Chile. With Google translate I'm good. But the visual is probably good enough. Very creative. If you're in Spain a lot and live in Santa Fe you could have a lot of Spanish. Of course I could have a lot of Basque so who am I to say? Thanks for sharing! I want to do the ASOIAF GOT Essos tour, Iceland, Croatia, Qarth, you know. Love seafood so Braavos too
