Antboy Is Coming

So Marvel has dismissed director Edgar Wright from the long-awaited (by me, anyway) ANT-MAN movie he was helming.

Very distressing.  I love Ant-Man (and the Wonderful Wasp).  I am still outraged that they were left out of THE AVENGERS film.  They were founding members of the group, after all.  Which can't be said for their replacements, Hawkeye and Black Widow.

But hey, hey, have no fear.  If you're feeling a serious lack of ant-based superheroics, the Jean Cocteau Cinema is coming to your rescue.  Marvel won't be giving us ANT-MAN until 2015, if ever, but this weekend the Jean Cocteau is debuting the first Danish superhero movie:

Come and check it out!  Showtimes on our website.

And we have lots more excitement at the theatre this weeked too.  More about that later.

After what's his face bowed out of directing the Ant-Man movie I read something where Marvel said they'd changed the line-up for the Avengers movie in order to accommodate the story that Ant-Man may or may not be telling, now. I'm personally perfectly happy to have had Hawkeye and Black Widow, but it's kind of too bad that it fell apart that way, since the Ant-Man movie's apparently been development since 2006. o.O

Re: I
I loved Hawkeye as an Avenger in the comic, but he was totally wasted in the movie.

I saw Ant-Boy at the Portland International Film Festival and found it delightful. Recommended!

Still no Gambit
I'm just bummed we are this far into the comic book era for movies and this many X-men movies in and still no Gambit. (Not counting the one in the Wolverine movie.)

Re: Still no Gambit
There's a Gambit movie in the works, Channing Tatum's starring. Can't post links here but Google that and you'll see.

Ah, another Wasp fan! If they ever bring her to screen, I think Summer Glau would be the perfect actress.

Also, hope Con Carolinas was a blast!

Summer Glau is great. But I think Emilia Clarke would make a great Wasp as well.

I never would have thought of that...but now that I'm picturing it, it would be great casting! Another actress from Thrones that has great work outside of the series, was Lena Headey in the Terminator TV show - kick-ass.

I was incredibly disappointed when I heard Edgar Wright wouldn't be directing Ant-Man. It's one of the movies I'd been most excited to see for a few years now. Wright's work is always genius, from the television series Spaced to the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy (though I must admit my personal favorite is Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).

Hawkeye was barely a character in The Avengers. Marvel's done some interesting work with Black Widow in the films, but she really needs her own movie to really flesh out who she is. But for some reason these giant movie studios think people won't go see action movies with female leads.

I think I will be as much outraged as you for leaving out Antman, if D&D decide to leave out Victarion from GoT...

Regarding Wasp
Since we have a lot of Wasp fans here, I'll recommend watching the animated series The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. She was by far my favorite character in the show.

Also, this Antboy looks and sounds like tons of lighthearted fun. Something that is vastly lacking in superhero movies today.
