Holy Direwolves, Batman!

happy blue
The response to our fund-raising campaign on Prizeo has been nothing less than mind-boggling.

One day into the campaign, the original $150,000 goal and the subsequent $200,000 goal have both been met and surpassed.  As I type, donations stand at $231,000, and we have raised the goal to $400,000.  And we still have 58 days to go!

Every donations helps, whether large or small.  You guys have made me very proud.

Once again, the link is

I am told this is the fastest-rising campaign in the history of Prizeo.

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary Fund-Raiser Prize
Mr. Martin:

I apologize for never having read this series of your books & I only started watching GoT the 1st week of May 2014. Don't worry, I will read the books. I love the show, but am not a "crazed fan".

If you could have convinced RORY MCCANN to donate his "TIME" for a date with a female fan, as one of the prizes, you would have already exceeded the amount of money you've raised so far. Taking a hike with him in the Highlands of Scotland or sailing with him on his boat would be a wonderful experience. He's as reclusive as I am. :) I would pay good money for a chance at a prize like that.

Was just thinking, would the finalised Lands of Ice and Fire "Known World" Map not be a better reward option than the show version? Maybe not since the show is so darn popular....

Help me help you kill me
I signed up for a LiveJournal account for this proposition.

I have not read any of your work to the best of my knowledge, and I have not seen any episode of Game of Thrones. I think reading your work is something I would be interested in based on its reputation. I'm a serial reader and currently I'm on the 200th page of Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne. What's currently on my list to read: Cryptonomicon (Neal Stephenson), Hyperbole and a Half (Allie Brosh), and Les Miserables. I think I should add A Song of Ice and Fire to the mix.

My most recently read books have been Women and Wilderness (Anne LaBastille), Beowulf (translated by Seamus Heaney), Crime and Punishment, and It (Stephen King).

There is a problem: I do not have $20,000. I don't even have $200 of disposable income. Is there another way?

Naming a character...
Can we have you name a character to be brutally murdered after someone else? Because I can totally crowdsource $20k to have Donald Trump brutally murdered in print. Disemboweled for embezzlement sounds about right...

Re: Naming a character...
I believe my name was already mentioned in the TV show series 1 ep 1 or 2, In the Wylla discussion... "Becca, with the big tits!" my friends haven't let me live it down...

Re: Naming a character...
My daughter's name is Khaleesi....so I guess she gets to appear in all the novels for free!

(Wanted to donate, but alas, I'm broke....so I raided my storeroom and donated to my local food pantry, instead.... They helped my family out when we needed it, and this 'contest' made me remember to return the favour.)

...Cheers!

Re: Naming a character...
You have my permission to use my (actual) name in the books - should I live or die. If death - hopefully a good one!

I'm so happy for you and the wolf sanctuary for beating your targets! Maybe one day when things are brighter I can visit! I wish I could donate something, anything to help, aside from pitiful words of congratulations. I'm so happy you're also helping a food charity, I lost my dad 4 years ago, and my mum around the same time, I adopted the pet doggies they sadly left behind so they wouldn't go to a shelter, at the worst times, and even still now, I've needed local food banks to help get me through til my next wage packet.

Your books have helped me through a lot, and I could lose myself in them when I needed to most. Everything happened just after I started university here in Scotland (which luckily is government funded, so I wasn't kicked out for being too poor to pay) and I just graduated!

I never thought I'd make it, considering how much study time I spent reading ASOIAF, browsing forums and talking about the books instead! Your books helped me mourn and move on. I grieved with Jon, Robb, Arya, Sansa, Bran and Rickon for their lost parents and childhoods as I grieved for my own.

Thanks again for your books and like so many others are saying, you have all the time in the world to finish them, YOU ARE NOT OUR B*TCH, for now you are doing something you love to help others and that is amazing.

Well played and congratulations! Those are going to be some happy wolves and some well fed people!

Also... that idea to crowdsource Trump being killed horribly was hilarious.

I've donated George!
I was just rescued by a 7 month old keeshond pup. Altho' much smaller, keeshonds are the dog most related to wolves. I wanted to name our rescuer 'Arya,' but she already answers to 'Ally'; so 'Ally' it is; 'cept it reminds me of Ser Alliser Thorne. *sigh*. Ally bonded with our other keeshond, so our pack is 'growing strong'. Her relationship with our two cats: also 'rescuers', white, hearing, brothers 'Gandalf' & 'Moonstone')is a 'work in progress', tho' they are now at the 'pointedly-ignoring-each-other stage', which is a good sign! Good luck with the charity blitz. It's been said before, & it'll be said again; You. Are. Amazing. Westeros pack will soon be picking out their new cadillac at this rate!

Happy news! Thanks for sharing. If people are in the area they really should swing by the Sanctuary and meet the pack. They are a a wonder to behold in the flesh.

What if the winner of the competition for getting their name and death in the novels has the same last name as a character in your book (ex. Peter Stark). Would you just pass over that name and move on to the next one.

Such a great cause! I bet these furry rascals are going to get a beautiful improved habitat! Would love to see some pictures when the improvements are all done eventually :D

Thanks!
George, thank you for doing this for such a noble cause. I missed the opportunity for a book mention, but should another one become available I would be interested in another donation. Are you thinking about adding more rewards with the increased goal?

There is a big cat refuge about 20 miles away from us which I have admired for many years and have helped promote.

About 4 years ago, they were approached by another facility which had wolves and had an elderly wolf which was being abused by the pack. In the wild, it would have been driven from the pack and died, but these big hearted folks agreed to take in the old male wolf

A new enclosure was built for it and an even larger enclosure added in time. Two young wolves were brought in so the wolf would not be alone.

The old wolf has since passed on, but Cedar Cove continues to be a home to the younger wolves.

Wolf Sanctuary
It is inspiring that you have taken up this cause, George. Thank you. I donated and if I had more disposable income I would donate more. I hope this project exceeds all your wildest expectations, and that it touches your heart.

As a fan of your wonderful books and HBO series donating was a small way of saying THANK YOU!!!!

YES!
not only will I keep donating as much as I can afford as often as I can afford but I would be happy to slay [not that I have any desire to take a life] (any kin of mine of your choosing-should that be required) but I would happily perform a sacrifice to the Old Gods and the New, any sacrifice they might require....I will even keep my bronze sickle sharp should it be needed....

I love wolves as much as I love the world of ASoFaI you've created for us all, and it makes my heart literally burst with joy to see this being offered by, whoever the grand prize winner might be I think anyone that participates will end up being a winner one way or another.

Thank you!

Prizeo not allowing participants based on location?
Just a heads up: anyone else experiencing a message from Prizeo saying (paraphrasingly) "due to legislation around sweepstakes we can not allow participants from your location"?

Because I am unaware of any such legislation over here. If so, it sucks to be prevented from participating by Prizeo's interpretation of an apparently inexistent law.

Tried their customer support, but I just got a typified response stating the same thing that the message says. Anyone else got this?
