Battle Is Coming, Blood Will Flow

Tomorrow night, on HBO.

Neil Marshall returns, with a battle even bigger than "Blackwater."  Should rival or surpass any battle ever seen before on television.

Keep your swords sharp.

And be afraid.  Be very afraid.

(No, I haven't seen the episode yet).

Blackwater vs Wall
It's going to have to be something to beat Blackwater, which is one episode I've watched over & over.

Of course I'll be glued to my leather throne with my smallfolk tomorrow

Can't wait!
I can't believe how pumped I am for this episode.

If anyone could capture the epicness of the battle in the books, it's Neil.

Serfdom vs slavery
Can't wait for the next episode.
But one question:
I was wondering what sort of Serfdom there is in Westeros. Is it a repressive type of serfdom like the one in Medieval Eastern-Europe or is it a less repressive version like the one in Western Europe after the Black Death? If it is the former it would be little better than slavery.
Daenerys would be a hypocrite if she didn't try to free Serfs and kill nobles once she reaches Westeros then.

Ps. Sorry for my english.

Re: Random Wish
I am not Arabic and know very little about the language, but ASOIAF has been translated into many languages so far, so hopefully an Arab translation will come soon enough! Have hope!

wonder how much this episode cost lol looks like HBO really broke the bank with this one.

Only two episodes left this year! Looking forward to both, especially tomorrow night's, Episode 39.

After that, looking forward to World of Ice and Fire. After that, well it shall be a bit of a wait for anything, even Episode 41 of the show next year.

BUT, when it comes to 'George R.R. Martin' and 'waiting', it's always worth it.

Character appearance
Based on what I've read and seen so far, I have a feeling that this episode is going to impress the audience, especially the people who have no idea what's coming!

Has the show affected the way you picture the physical appearance of characters like Jon Snow? I've seen a video where you say that Osha is the only character that might be enriched because of Natalia Tena's performance, but what about the character's physique? Has that changed as well for you?

For me the characters of the books look very different than the characters of the series, with the notable exception of Pycelle. For some reason, Julian Glover has invaded the world of Ice and Fire that exists in my mind and insists on staying there :)

Butterfly effect
Can't wait. Only thing I worry about (in almost every episode): that they might kill off some of the characters who still live in the books. Makes it very thrilling though.

I hope you are very, very proud of yourself for bringing this much joy to so many people.

but still I'm excited.

Sory for my english, i hope you understand.
Blackwater and Wall are the best battles... Because Stannis is in it.
I love to see how he kill soliders in blackwater, but i didn't like the changes of his character... I love it in the book, in the series he's not the best for now (i think he's in the way to get it)
Anyway. I don't know what character HBO will kill without Donal Noyle. I hope they don't kill Pip or one of the Jon friends.
If edd dies, is time for some Valar Morghulis in HBO.

George RR Martin jy is 'n bloed poes!!!!!!!!!

Fok jou, jou kont! Ek hoop jy het fokol nageslag nie. Mag jou balsak in jou rektum in krimp! As jy 'n vrou het mag sy borskanker kry en vir jou geen plesier mee gee nie! Jy is 'n fuckedup poes!

Yours truely

The hbo adaptation will be great! Speaking of game of thrones, does anybody have any good ways to recap on the events of a feast for crows and a dance with dragons? I really don't want to forget anything that happened before the next books. Appreciated!

Was concerned... but if you're excited I'm excited
I'm glad you're so excited for it Maester Martin... I must confess that as much as I enjoy the show I've been really unhappy with their treatment of the Wall this season.

I began as a humble show watcher but after season 3 I read what we yet have of the series and fell even more deeply in love with the world of A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones. I was looking forward to a long action packed season, expecting the initial South of the Wall Wildling assault roundabouts episode 4... with a break and mourning episode followed by the first attack on the North side of the Wall, which I expected to go on for about 2 episodes. Even if it was just coming back to the Wall to see Night's Watchment shooting arrows off the Wall and talking about how the Wildling's weren't letting up... seeing the growing exhaustion. Followed by perhaps another lull episode as we got a break in the combat of the siege to chat a bit, followed by the final portion of the battle of the Wall at episode 9 or 10. I understand the limitations of budget, and figured they would trim things down with tricks like just talking about the battles or just showing archers on the Wall while he mostly hear rather than truly see the Wildling army, or perhaps see them CGI from the height of the Wall... but yeah... I've been rather disappointed they're condensing so much into a single episode Blackwater style. I understood Blackwater as a single episode... but the length of time expended and the resulting exhaustion is just such a big part of the Battle of the Wall. That the top of the Wall is effectively out of range for the Wildings and that the Night's Watch are simply running out of arrows and bolts and stones is such a big part of the battle and I'm kind of sad that that will be difficult to properly convey.

Again, I've watched all the commentaries on all of the DVDs and I get the needs of budgeting but the show is just so successful any money spent would be more than made back and I didn't see any other way to do it... and all of the filler at the Wall and the drawing out of the attack just seems so forced... and annoying considering we should have been getting episodes of combat. I totally get the changes to Bran's storyline for depiction in the show medium, but tying it to Jon's as they did, did nothing for me.

But, if you are excited then I am excited once again! However... please tell us that you'll make another post AFTER the episode to let us know your thoughts on it, changes, consistencies, performances, depictions (ideally good and bad)! That would be wonderful.

George, I'm so excited!! :D Though I will be quite honest, I'm not sure anything can match the impact of episode 8. The way that final sequence was shot and edited, combined with the sound effects, was in my opinion, about as strong a sequence as you can possibly have. It was absolutely incredible (and I knew what was coming from reading the books hehe). But of course Neil Marshall is awesome and I'm sure the episode will be great :) But "the Mountain and the Viper" was simplly a masterpiece. Basically this is me saying I adore your work as well as HBO's adaptation :D

Looking forward to it. It's hard to say which of these last 3 episodes is going to be the best. Originaly ninth is the most "juicy" one, but I guess all of them are now.

I am guessing Dan and Dave are taking this one to new heights!

From memory Marshall was given reduced prep time for for the Battle of Blackwater ep as the previous director pulled out. He still did a stellar job. Hopefully he was given more notice this time around lol.
