On the Road Again

I haven't even found time to post about all the cool stuff that went down at Comicon, or in France and Switzerland before that, but in a few hours we'll be off again... for Scotland and the Edinburgh Book Festival first, then London for worldcon, then straight to LA for the Emmys.

I am exhausted just thinking about it.

A year or two back, grouping most of my 2014 travel in one tight two-month period to allow me to stay home and work the rest of the year seemed like a really great idea... but now that it's on me, I have to admit, it's too much too soon.

Fortunately, once I get home from LA, there's nothing on the schedule for the rest of the year but one quick trip to NY and Jersey, to see the family, check in with editors and agents, and do a couple other cool things.  Which is great.  New Mexico is at its most gorgeous in the fall, and I am hoping that the big block of time at home will let me get a LOT of writing done.

Meanwhile... these flights across the pond are always grueling, but I expect to have a great time in Edinburgh and London.

See you there!

It's only since I've hit my 30's or so that I've developed an appreciation for fall... it still surprises me each year how colourful it is, and it's not as rainy as I always assumed it would be when I was younger. We have a lot of wolf spiders here and you see them more in the fall... which not everyone appreciates, but I don't mind them. Here in BC fall is a good time to be home.

It sounds like you're having the pre-trip jitters, that's always the worst. Once you are on the way it gets better. Have fun!

Hope you enjoy yourself over here! Just to let you know there's currently an exhibition at the British Library in London tracing the history of British comics back through the 70's to their origins in the 19th century. Might be of interest?

My first overseas flight
I've never been outside the US aside from one quick trip into Canada when I was 11(about 17 years ago now) but in 2 weeks I will be flying out to Japan. I'll be there for two years so I hope I don't make it back for the Winds of Winter book tour!

Edinburgh and London.
I love Edinburgh and London; two of my favorite places. They both have great castles too(that I'm sure you've already seen). It would be perfect without the flight; when are the smart people going to invent teleporters.

Traveling this year
George, may you have safe trips and good times in Edinburgh, London, LA and out here on the East Coast! As a resident of Princeton, I'm asking if there is any chance of you doing anything public (NYC?) when you're out here in New Jersey?

Hope you have a great time!
Dear George,

I'm glad you're taking your time and doing all you have to do. A lot of people are probably complaining about it all, because these trips mean you won't be writing for a while. That happens because it's very difficult to make the distinction between the George R R Martin printed on the cover of our books and George, the individual. It's pretty clear to me now that the work you've been dedicating many years of your life belongs to you and you only. We fans should be thankful you've shared it with the world. Sorry for our complaints. We demand of you nothing. We expect of you great stories, and we know you'll deliver.

Sincerely,

Daniel L Pacheco

Have a great time
I hope you have a wonderful time over there! One quick question, is Kingsguard armor regular plate over scale-mail, or bare scale-mail? Or is it plate armor design to look like scales with chain mail under it? I've just been a bit curious about it.
