Skunked Again

0 and 5 last night.

What can you say?  BREAKING BAD was a juggernaut.  A great show with a great final season.

(But Peter Dinklage was robbed).

Personally I am now 0 and 6 in the Emmy derby.

This was the 66th annual Emmy Awards.  66 years, and no science fiction or fantasy series has ever been honored.  Many have been nominated, yes.  None have ever won.

Just sayin'

Thrones' time will come! Worry not.
Aug. 26th, 2014 06:14 pm (UTC)
Eh, not all who seek the throne sit on it.
Oh well. You and all the cast and crew of A Game Of Thrones are still winners in my book.
Aug. 26th, 2014 06:19 pm (UTC)
Lost, 2005.

Dear Mr. Martin,
Happy traveling! My boyfriend and I are both avid readers and big fans of yours, and we made a deal that the only way he would get us a puppy is if you would name it. If you had to name the puppy of one of your fans, what would you name it?
Aug. 26th, 2014 06:26 pm (UTC)
Well, on the upside, you did get a little more time to write :-)
Aug. 26th, 2014 06:27 pm (UTC)
It was clear that Aaron Paul would take it, seeing how it's the last season of Breaking Bad.
But there is no way he topped the Court Room scene. That performance by Peter Dinklage was amazing.

Cheer up. At least you got a free typewriter from Weird Al. And remember always look on the bright side of life.
Aug. 26th, 2014 06:38 pm (UTC)
Breaking Bad was unbeatable, but next year you will rule the place as far as I can see.
Aug. 26th, 2014 06:40 pm (UTC)
It's a shame, but may be that's the reason to think about a movie? An Oscar would be pretty much better than some Emmies...

The final season of the series is already guaranteed the nod, no matter how much those old gaffers may hate the idea of a scifi/fantasy show winning. The sheer epicness of it all will render the competition moot.

That is, unless the final book plays out in a big screen trilogy instead. Then you may be collecting an Oscar instead of an Emmy ;)

They don't know what's good
It became clear this year how non representative this awards are. Not only Peter Dinklage was robbed, but Modern Family winning and, specially, the snubbing of Tatiana Maslany makes you wonder if they even watch the shows at all.
The Hugo win, on the other hand, was well deserved, congrats!

Breaking Bad was impossible to compete with, deformation and dynamics of characters was astonishingly great. Hope, GoT will get its prize.

And hope show runners will find a way out of Cersei nude walk prohibited by clerics in Dubrovnik.

Don't be pessimistic! At least Thrones doesn't have to compete against Breaking Bad in future Emmy Awards.

Among the dramas still on air, I'll be hard pressed to find a better show than Game of Thrones.

Small correction, George: Lost won Best Drama in its first season, and it more or less falls inside the SF/F category.

It did, yes, but at the time it barely fit that category. LOST delved into fully fledged sci-fi (and sometimes fully fledged magic) in its later seasons. In its first season, the most sci-fish thing was the mystery monster which turned out to be a smoke...thing at the end of the season. It wasn't even called the smoke monster until later.

Breaking Bad was an excellent show, but it was by no means "better than sliced bread," like what everyone is making it out to be.

I know I have to find you at Worldcon to get my "Hugo Loser" ribbon, but who do you have to find at the Emmy Awards to get an "Emmy Loser" ribbon?
Aug. 26th, 2014 07:13 pm (UTC)
You are totally right
We're on the same page, Mr. Martin, especially about Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey. Let's hope for things to change soon...

GOT will win for its final season.

It will be similar to when the motion picture academy honored Peter Jackson and the cast and crew of LOTR for "Return of the King," letting the conclusion stand in for the whole trilogy.

It's stupid, since each season and performance should be judged on its own merits, but I think that's just how the Emmys roll. Which means no matter how good GOT is next year, "Mad Men" will win because... it's the last season of Mad Men.

So, whether it's season Seven, Eight, or Nine (pretty please), that's the time to look forward to some fantasy recognition.
Aug. 26th, 2014 08:07 pm (UTC)
Don't worry, George. While you and the actors were robbed, GOT will have a much more lasting affect on American and world cultures than any of these Emmy-getters.
Aug. 26th, 2014 08:35 pm (UTC)

Breaking Bad is over. I predict GoT will make tv history at the Emmys next year. And you got a typewriter. That was pretty cool.

How are you enjoying the typewriter that was dropped on your lap?

Game of Thrones should have won last night for a certainty. Whatever man you're still awesome and we still love and honor your books more than any books or tv series ever existed in the history of mankind.
