Well, I finished a chapter of the DANCE this morning. Which ordinarily would not be occasion for comment, but this was a Bran chapter that I've been struggling with for something like six years. Bran has always been the toughest character to write, for a whole bunch of reasons, but this chapter in particular was killing me.
Anyway, that's one done. (Unless I wake up tomorrow, reread what I've done, decide that I hate it, and tear the whole thing up. Which does happen from time to time).
Now let's hope the NEXT Bran chapter doesn't take six years as well.

Congrats on getting it done, and here's to hope you'll still like it tomorrow.
Seriously, though, that's wonderful news!
I am an academic with my own writing commitments, so her comments spoke directly to me. Her comments have inspired me to change my daily routine in my study, so that I get more writing done.
Also, love the new layout.
Not really, though- I love Bran, and his story.
Congratulations!
I can't wait. I've been trying to figure out where that story line is going to go, too, and I can't wait to see if I'm at least partially right....
More than anything, though... thank you from the bottom of my heart, Mr. Martin. These gifts are truly amazing!
And ha, you and I apparently have the same journal style now. I always look at mine and think "dark wings, dark words," so it's appropriate on many levels. :D
*cheers*
though that bears the question of whether there are any sections of the published books that you've read since their publishing and wished that you'd done differently.
Is this a first draft of the chapter (and if so, how much do you revise)?
And how many chapters do you have left to write before the book is finished?
The BF has complained of Bran's chapters being boring but I find them a lovely respite from the super-hectic plot lines of other characters... It's a good chance to sit back, relate to a character's frustrations and hopes and fears and all the rest, and not have to keep 1000 plot threads in my head until the next character chapter. -cough-anyandalllannisters-cough-
Also, while I can imagine why Bran is so hard, I love his character (okay so Arya is my fave), and I generally love how you have so many characters of different ages, gender, bodytypes... yeah. And not all "mary sues" (or the male equivalent) which is what it seems 99% of fantasy is :P
You are a top notch writer!
