Okay, I may not have a book yet, but I have covers.
Here are the American and British covers for A DANCE WITH DRAGONS.

If I can deliver the book before the end of June, you'll see these in your favorite bookstore sometime this fall.
If I can't, well... you'll still see them eventually, I hope.

In the meantime, I am rereading the rest of the series. Your stories are like the best dinners - even "leftovers" are terrific!
Thanks for your hard work.
**writes birthday wish list**
(funny, that didn't take long...)
I hope you stop in or around Iowa again for signings :)
This is why I love England, we get the best covers!
Heh but other than that... huzzah for the book!
Also, don't stress it out, put your feet up, play with the kitten, whatever... It will all be the better for it.

6 limbs?
I wish I lived in the UK. Theirs is prettier. But ours is nice, too.
I miss the old covers :( I honestly didn't think the American one was legit when I first saw it, because it looked like something I could just sit down and whip out in Photoshop with the help of some dragon clip-art.
Again, I know, nothing to be done, yes, I know, I get that. I know the official line was to make the books more marketable cross-genres. But I wouldn't be shocked if there was some cost-cutting involved as well :/ A few hours of graphic design work has got to be cheaper than paying someone to do an oil painting. It just makes me sad.
Flame at will if you must, but this is my opinion and in no way meant to be an attack on George. I know these things are not his to decide.
And well, even if you don't finish the book by june, it'll be the better for it I suspect. I'd rather read another true masterpiece later than something that had to be rushed. But I know you're not into the rushing thing anyway, so I'm not worried ;)
Good luck and have fun writing!
I'm in the middle of a reread of the whole series (lucky me, I haven't read book 4 yet!), and I'm right at the end of Game of Thrones. I was reading as I ate my lunch at a local restaurant yesterday, and one of the servers walked by my table. He looked back at me as he went past, and said, "Those are great!" I looked at my plate in confusion and said, "The sweet potato fries? Yeah, they're pretty awesome." To which he replied, "No, the books!"
Oh! I had the book open to the beginning of a Daenerys chapter, and he must have seen her name as he went by. He then proceeded to gush about the series and how he can hardly wait for book 5. Ah, fanboys, God love 'em.
I foolishly started rereading book 1 last night (I had to buy ANOTHER copy of it, I keep giving them away to get people addicted to the GRRMy goodness)...oh, well, that just means I get to reread the whole series again come the fall. *squee* Want!
(Altho both are lovely.)
I'm a longtime reader of your blog and this is my first post, but thanks so much for this series! I've never been this emotionally invested in a series of books, and hearing we might be getting the next installment sometime this year is good news indeed!
keep up the fantastic work :)
Simple pleasures for a simple man, I suppose.
