We're Number One... Again

Much to my surprise, my editor Anne Groell sent me an email while I was over in Europe (Germany, Sweden, Aland) to let me know that the mass market paperback of A GAME OF THRONES had hit number one on the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller list for the week of July 5.

The July 5 list shows:

New York Times Bestseller List
July 5th, 2015

Trade Paperback Fiction
11. A GAME OF THRONES

Mass Market Fiction
1. A GAME OF THRONES
10. A DANCE WITH DRAGONS
11. A CLASH OF KINGS
17. A STORM OF SWORDS

Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous
13. THE WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE

E-book Fiction
19. A GAME OF THRONES: FIVE-BOOK SET

Combined Fiction
14. A GAME OF THRONES

All great, of course, but I have to confess, that return to #1 especially tickles.

Pretty damn good for a book first published in 1996.

(It is the return to the show to the airwaves that's responsible, of course, so thanks to HBO and David and Dan and Bryan and our amazing cast and directors... and also to Anne, and all the great folks at Bantam Spectra, who have kept all of the books in print and available for lo these long years. Long may we reign).

Re: A Nice Surprise-Please Surprise Us!!the fans who CAN NOT SLEEP, EAT OR BREATH...
Hear! Hear! #1 AGAIN- a well deserved tickle, I'm sure. These books have given so much pleasure and excitement throughout the planet. Please George, know that your fans are tireless too with their massive postings, videos and threads on reddit, Facebook, Westeros.org and Google+ constantly spreading the word, creating crazy, tin-foil-y theories, deep-dive analyses and most of all, PRAISE to YOU and ASOIAF! We are waiting. Wanting. Thirsting.

I am glad to see you get the recognition you deserve for authoring advice and how-to books. But how much longer must we wait for Seven Habits of Successful Free Folk?

Well i am not a tiny bit surprise!
I personally read the whole thing after season 3 not to be spoiled ever again (The Red Wedding was spoiled for me). I then became a book snob for two season. It seems that an exponentially number of people made that decision since. They story is cemented in pop culture now so that's not surprising. Congrats Georges!

Congrats!
Congratulations George! I love your work and it is good to see it spreading to new audiences. This gives me more people to talk to about the books with. I'm sure they will all return to the best sellers list once "Winds" comes out! Can't wait!

I read your 'A Game of Thrones' back in 1996 and felt at that time that the book would make it big some day. It is odd to have taken so long and so much filming.

Congrats
Just wanted to wish you huge congrats.

I'm one of those who got attached to your universe by the show first and then swallowed up your awesome novels.

Keep the stories coming. ;)

Will we see something like that in your books?

Welcome to Brazil.
Hi Martin,

You think of visiting Brazil someday? Especially the country's capital, Brasilia. I love to have my books autographed by you.

Hugs.

Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous
George, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the NYT's decision to categorize THE WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE in the "Advice" and "How-To" category. I'd been getting killed in Targaryen civil wars left and right, but now that I know how they work, I won't be caught off-guard for the next one.

(Really did love the book, by the way. It's more than "Miscellaneous" to me.)
