More Signed Books

We've just added two more titles to the Signed Books page at the Jean Cocteau: the Jack Vance tribute anthology, SONGS OF THE DYING EARTH, and SONGS OF LOVE AND DEATH, original tales of star-crossed love.

While the supply lasts... which will not be long... these will be available in both hardcover and paperback, with autographs from both me and my co-editor Gardner Dozois. ((Hard to get both, since Gardner and I are seldom in the same place at the same time, especially these days)).

For those who want to stand up to the bullies and rabids and their Tor boycott, please note that SONGS OF THE DYING EARTH was published by Tor. (They were also Jack Vance's publisher for most of the last few decades).

SONGS OF LOVE AND DEATH was published by Fallery Books in hardcover and Pocket Books in paperback, and contains work by Jim Butcher, Diana Gabaldon, and many more.

We have also added some new titles (all SIGNED) by Jo Walton, Susan Orlean (her biography of Rin Tin Tin is fascinating reading) and Anne Perry, among others.

Check them all out at http://www.jeancocteaubooks.com/

Any updates on international shipping? I'm asking because you have mentioned before that it might become possible in the future, I live very far away from you, and I would love to own some signed books. Thanks in advance!

We're working on it, but I am not optimistic. Shipping costs are incredibly high, and we run into tariffs and import duties as well... which many buyers will not pay, so the books get returned to it. There may be a way, but we have not found it yet.

Check which countries don't have import duties on books. I live in Brazil and even this shithole doesn't tax books.

Also, any ETA on more signed Lands of Ice and Fire hardcover copies?

If they pay before shipping and the book gets returned because they declined to pay the tax, you pay it, get the book back and still make a profit on that particular exchange. AND you can sell the book again. Not your fault people mess up.

Too cynical? ;)

Yeah, well, that scenario leads to lots of bad feeling.

Tor Boycott
This Tor boycott is incredibly stupid. Thanks for letting me know it exists! Just bought some Wild Card books on Amazon.

International shipping
Hi George!

This post got me browsing, but I noticed you don't ship internationally. Any plans on that or should I look for the books from other sites for now?

Off topic and speculative.
Hi George,

After reading the latest rumor on WoW(yawn), I wanted to cheer you on. I know how final edits go and they can take months. Still, it's nice to hear...at least, I deduce this from your response. I write my own tale and have reached the same spot. Funny how arranging things for optimum readability can take so long. For me, this takes longer than the manuscript. Anyway, I find it amazing you have any time for writing A Song of Ice and Fire. And, I look forward to reading the next part of your tale. Thanks for your efforts.

Come on over!
Colorado is a wonderful state and it'd be great if you ever stopped by! Was wondering if that's on your schedule at some point in the future. Thanks!

Russian covers
Hi,George!I want to ask your opinion about russian covers of ASOIAF books. In my opinion they extremly inappropriate and frivolous. What do you think?
A Game of Thrones cover: http://7kingdoms.ru/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ASOIAF-Best1-4b.jpg
A Clash of Kings cover: http://7kingdoms.ru/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ASOIAF-Best2-4b.jpg
A Storm of Swords: http://7kingdoms.ru/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ASOIAF-Best3-4b.jpg
A Feast for Crows: http://7kingdoms.ru/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ASOIAF-Best4-4b.jpg
For A Dance with Dragons we have two books and their covers is not so bad.
So what do you think?
P.S. With love from all your russian fans.

The rabids are now preparing to boycott Bantam, is this true?

Re: Bantam boycott
Not that I know. But it would not surprise me. Maybe they should boycott everyone. And the rest of the world could boycott them, and we'd all be happier.

Signed Books
I browsed the bookstore but I can't tell what books are signed and by whom? Am I missing that in the description somewhere?

Re: Signed Books
All the books at the Cocteau are signed...by either the author or (in the case of anthologies) the editor.

Some of the anthologies have additional signatures from some of the contributing writers, but that's not guaranteed.

Tooth and Claw
Jo Walton is fantastic. Have you had a chance to read Tooth and Claw? If you have, what are your thoughts?

I bought an autographed copy of "Dying of the Light" from your bookstore, and I wanted to say how much I enjoyed it! I was up until midnight the other night finishing it because it was too suspenseful to put down.

I discovered you through ASOIAF, but am now getting into reading your older works. I've been a lifelong sci-fi fan, and I love your approach to the genre. DOTL was more imaginative than the majority of sci-fi coming out these days, and your world-building is second-to-none. Kyrne Lamiya is the coolest city I've ever read about, and I can easily imagine it's cosmic cousin turning up in the far reaches of Essos!

Thank you for all you do, George, you inspire me!!
