Back From Bubonicon

I'm back home from Bubonicon, our venerable local con, and the last one on my schedule for this year. No more cons on my schedule until the end of February, when I'll be headed to Virginia.

Bubonicon -- named after our state's rep as "home of the flea, land of the plague" -- is much bigger and livelier than it used to be, but still a very friendly, fun local con, with a strong literary flavor. This year's incarnation featured a great lineup of guests including Cat Valente, Tamora Pierce, and Mary Robinette Kowal. I enjoyed hanging them with, and getting to know them better. Terrific guests, terrific writers, and wonderful people. Warm and witty.

A whole bunch of my Wild Cards writers and friends were also on hand, including the usual New Mexico gang, and out-of-towners like Caroline Spector and Carrie Vaughn.

The highlight of the weekend, as ever, was our evening with Pope Francis.

And so con season draws to a close... but football season is almost at hand!

subjects on comments?
gah, when you mention Wild Cards I always think of Zelazny and have to go read your eulogy and be sad for a while. any chance more of those will hit Audible? I would've thought the GoT TV show's success would have audiobookers scrabbling for you and yours.

Football
Welcome home!
I know you are an avid NFL fan and normally only dabble in college football, but are you thinking about following it more closely as there is now the 4-team playoff?
Go Bucks! (I guess Northwestern's okay too)

Ah yes... Football!
The end of August and early September are this Eagles fan favorite time of year. When dreams of winning the superbowl are not yet crushed when reality sets in.

since you bring up football season...
Would you like the Jets to take a shot at RG3? Today I'm a heartbroken Skins fan but I'd love to see him catch on somewhere else.

Re: since you bring up football season...
No, I'll pass on RG3, thanks.

He was a great talent, but his style of play was too dangerous. I don't think he has ever recovered from those injuries. As a pocket passer, he's below average.

Happy for you
I am a freshman at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and I've been following your blog for about a year or so. I have to say it's amazing to see that you have so much fun going to cons and meeting with fans and having fun in general. I've never been able to go to a con and I really hope to one day be able to meet you at a con. I also envy you for meeting such a unique person like Pope Francis. What was it like? I am currently reading the Dinosaur Lords, Chapter 12 right now, and even though I don't think of it as a cross between Jurassic Park and GoT, it is very interesting to read. I've been aspiring to be a great writer like you and have started my first FULL length novel. The longest work I wrote was 30,000 or so words. Unfortunately, I used a lot of people from my life, even myself, as characters so I'm unable to make money for it and I mostly use it as a gift to friends. It is fun to see them react to their book counterparts. I do have a hard time finding time to write which deeply saddens me. Anyways, I wish you good fortune in the next few months of vacation. Have a good day!

Bubonicon
Hello George
In Bubonicon you said you were writing the two last books ("I am writing both last book right now" here: https://angrygotfan.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/angrygotfan-santa-fe.pdf).
Does that mean you've written a chapter of 'A Dream os spring'?

Re: Bubonicon
No.

And I don't believe I said that.

If I did, I misspoke.

Bubicon
Hi George!!

FYI- a fan has tweeted some "paraphrased" quotes from your talk at Bubicon. It would seem like you said some pretty juicy stuff!

Since there was no coverage, would you care to summarize anything you said at the event we die-hards who weren't there have it straight?

Hope it was a blast!!

NFL
Have you ever considered writing a character that could embody all that is annoying about the NFL? Names like Romo and Goodell would even be suitable (and could maybe get the Ramsay treatment? I'm just saying.)

He did in A Dance with Dragons. "Patriot Belicho" aka Bill Belichick was a ruler in Volantins until he was eaten by Giants

Unclear ASOIAF history
I pardon my disturbance, but this has been bugging me for years:

According to history:

- The Night’s King brought his bride to the Nightfort, south of the Wall

BUT:

- White Walkers cannot pass the wall

Can I hope for clarification in the future?

love

Opinions
Hey George, I have been wondering ever since the beginning of the year, what were your opinions on the Telltale Thrones game? You haven't really posted any impressions on your Not a Blog, so that got me curious. PS: In case you haven't played the game, you don't even need to, you can just watch the 1-2 hour let's plays on YouTube.

Please don't skip Balticon!
Hi! This is my first comment here, but I am a big fan of all things ASOIAF.

Just in case I don't get a chance to ask you this in person, do you think that you will write any stories that center on the politics and culture of the summer isles?

Also, your books have inspired me to write some stories of my own, but I'm not going to ask you for advice because I'm sure you get asked that all the time now!

Please write poetry
Hi George!

I've read your ASOIAF books twice now. Your books are very poetic and I was wondering whether you would ever consider writing any poetry in the upcoming books as I truly believe it would work.
