The Martian...

... will be at the Jean Cocteau on Monday, in the person of Andy Weir. We'll be talking about his novel, and the movie, and he'll be signing books.

Only a few tickets left. If you'd like to attend, reserve yours now.

ADDENDUM: Sorry, slowpokes. Jon has just informed me that the Andy Weir event is SOLD OUT. ((Don't say I didn't warn you)).

Our next author event will be... hey, ME... on October 27. Followed by Deborah Harkness on November 8. Watch the Cocteau website for details. I expect those events to sell out as well, so be prepared to pounce as soon as tickets are available.

Will there also be signed copies we can order from the bookstore for those of us who won't be in town for the event?

Yes... unless we sell out. But we've ordered a lot of copies, so I think a sellout is unlikely.

Great book. Fantastic movie.
Would love to be there! Oh why must I live in New Jersey?!

By the way, as someone who is currently putting the finishing touches on a novel set in space (and partly on Mars), I was deeply satisfied by the majority of the believable science in both novel and movie. Sure, some things could not happen (a massive storm of that type on Mars is not possible), but so much of it was grounded in reality that I hope it brings about more science-fiction that leans heavily on fact.

Though... I still love science-fiction fantasy stories too.

Nah. He could have hatched a dragon's egg.

No he couldn't, only females can hatch dragons... Or not, it's a pretty convincing theory I've heard of recently. I guess we'll find out in the two last books, or in Fire and Blood :)

alas...
Very cool, Martian level cool even; how I wish you guys had the time/ability to get to other corners of the world! Publishers take note.

Filming
Any chance you can film and upload the talks? You can do like the NFL Blackout rule and only upload them if the event was sold out. I live far away and I love The Martian, and I wish I could be there for the event.

Please record Andy Weir's talk.
For those of us unfortunates who live elsewhere, would it be possible to film his presentation and post it online?
