Sunday Bloody Sunday

Some talking heads are saying this morning's game between the Giants and the Saints was a great contest. I suppose it was. If you love offense, and hate defense.

I love defense, and I hate losing, so I went away very unhappy. I mean, 52 to 49, really? REALLY? Nobody stopped anybody, ever. 52 - 49 is a basketball score.

Okay, Eli was great, Odell was great, the Giants offense kept coming back and coming back. But the Giants defense must have missed the plane to Nawlins. Aside from the one pick six, they were absent all game. And the end of the game was ludicrous. After all that scoring, the game turned on a facemask penalty on our punter.

And just when I thought life could not get any worse, I watched the Jets game.

That one was lost the moment Fitz went down and Geno Smith came in. Geno showed flashes, sure, Geno always shows flashes. But when the clock is ticking down and the game is on the line, he will always came up short. As he did this afternoon. I sure as hell hope that Fitzpatrick can come back next week. If not, then I pray Todd Bowles sits Geno Smith and gives a shot to the kid they drafted, Bryce Petty. Because if Geno is our starter again, the season is over.

Also, we need Nick Mangold back... though his young replacement did well. And Cromartie and Marshall suffered injuries as well. Those could be season-killing too, if they are serious.

All in all, a horrid day. Life is miserable and full of pain.

Only one consolation: the Cowboys lost too. And just as painfully as the Giants.

Sorry about the Jets
I am sorry for all the losses today. Being a Raider fan, I can't say we've had too many positives recently but this win was nice :) Based on what you saw, any predictions on the rest of the Raiders season? Or are you strictly a NY guy?

Re: Sorry about the Jets
I think the Raiders are on their way up. Carr looks legit.

They won't win their division this year, but could contend for a wild card.

NYG D
With a lot of major components missing like Prince, Beason and of course, a pass rusher ... Spags and NYG D knew they were in for a tough fight. Sadly, I don't think they even put up a fight! Saints receivers were running all over the secondary and Breesus had forever to throw to a target of choice.

Oh well, on to Tampa!

If you told me that the Giants and the Saints would put up that many points a week ago, i would have called you crazy.

I know the feeling
I'm a Lions fan, so our entire existence is based on misery and pain, this season being particularly worse than recent years. Time to fire everyone and start planning for next year I suppose.

Re: NFL & MLB
While yes last nights game was tough for Mets fans, the game how the Royals won as a Phillies fan made me as giddy as Roose Bolton probably felt when he shoved his dagger through Robb Starks heart.

NFC East
So the division is looking like a dumpster fire. The Giants are of course inconsistent, Dallas may be lost by the time Romo comes back, Chip Kelly proved unworthy of making any sort of personnel decision, and my Skins are the Skins with Kirk playing brilliant one week and godawful the next.

That being said, who ya got? I still think the Giants win it, they have the best QB/coach combo and are used to it. Philly's D can't hold up forever and Romo won't be back soon enough. I don't think they will win a game without him.

Fear of Wun Wun, and those Giants that ate Belicho
To give you some further consolation, Patriot fan checking in here and I will wager anything that it will be the Giants that take down the Patriots first this year.

They might have been in trouble when Fitzpatrick went down and mangold out, but the defense seemed to be lost. Like so lost I think they left their courage in Foxboro. What the heck happened to this defense. Bowles is gonna have to figure out a way to get them back, and get that 5th win. Or it's gonna get ugly.

yeah I guess that is what the patriots do.
still think with this HC you guys have a good shoot at the playoffs.

NFC East
As a life long Eagles fan (who got his wish - at least as far as the Giants and Cowboys go..), all I can say is... how the mighty NFC East has fallen!

I thought the Baylor vs. TCU game was entertaining... er.. I mean the Giants v Saints.

There is just a lack of attention to detail with Tom Coughlin coached teams that leads to colossal game costing mistakes. The game today should've gone to overtime - completely pathetic that the Giants couldn't execute the punt and cover. We also saw the ridiculousness in the first game of the season with Dallas which cost us that game. I like Coughlin and what he stands for, but I think if we don't make the playoffs this year it's time to move on.

C'mon George, Geno looked pretty good today. Fitz isn't a pro bowl caliber quarterback anyway, so I don't think its the end of the world with Geno starting. We might have actually won if the defense didn't allow 34 bleeding points! I have faith that gang green will still get a wild card spot

Not with Geno.

If Fitz is out, time to see what Bryce Petty has to offer.

I'm not surprised you're depressed after the Giants game - it was like watching Scotland lose to Australia in the QFs of the Rugby World Cup (Rugby - it's like American Football without all the padding), on a last minute mistaken call and penalty.

Why the hell do we watch sports anyway, if they're only going to break your heart?

Rugby -

IS NOT

it's like American Football without all the padding.

the reason for all the padding is so you dont have a few deaths every season like during the early 20th century.

Royal Pains?
I was not looking for Kansas City to go all the way. I'm a White Sox fan, so I know how it feels to lose to those guys, and I can't stand it. I was looking for the Mets to knock their socks off, but alas. Non such.

NFC East
Oh GRRM... The Cowboys loss wasn't painful. The loss to the Giants the week before was painful. Yesterday was expected. The fact that it was as close as it was shocked me. No one still has explained how Seattle got away with 12 men on the field, called a timeout that they didn't have, and no penalty was called.

Giants will win the division this year, I'm fairly certain. Romo won't be able to undo the damage, the Eagles are terrible and Bradford is due for an injury, and Redskins are too bipolar to be a threat. It's a down year for the East, and before the season, I thought it was going to be much, much better. Thank goodness I don't bet.

Giants - Saints
game was awesome and weird at the same time. I guess with ever changing rules it will happen more often in the future.

Looking forward to meeting NYG in 2 weeks.
Romo will need a season for the ages to steal your wild card ticket.

So see you(as in the giants team) at the superbowl?

Re: Giants - Saints
I know i know. What happen to both teams defenses in that match?
and the defense coaches? what did they do during the last 7 days?
i mean on the one hand we have the prophecy, every 4 years, but this team the giants defense is just not up to it.
all the number tell me that on Nov 15 my evil empire will win. After this sunday game if they dont fix this, Tom Brady may have 8 or 9 TDs.
And still Giants are the only teams that has a winning record against evil lil bill/Brady.

Re: Giants - Saints
I think it's interesting how when the Giants play in the HUGE games (division title or SB) they tend to be completely on point. However I don't understand why they struggle so much during regular season games? Eli is a good quarterback...for the most part.
What do you think is the true issue with the Giants? I think they have a solid team, so I think it might have to do with coaching?

And yeah....the Jets honestly I feel just need a great QB to become a leader of the team, and then they will be on the up and up!

Who Dat!
I don't know if any similar conversations were going on at a national level, but just a few weeks ago all the talk down here in the greater New Orleans area was about how Brees was getting old and how he might not be able to compete at a high enough level to keep his job.

Then he hung seven touchdowns on the Giants. Seven! What a glorious day to be a Saints fan. Guess he has a little gas left in the tank after all...

Re: Who Dat!
The Saints would be insane to let Brees walk, as is being rumored. He remains one of the best QBs in football.

Eli almost matched him last night... but Eli has much better receivers.

RE: Re: Who Dat!
Agree we would be insane to let Brees walk. What's being forgotten is how much he played a part in the spiritual rebuilding of the city. He deserves to end his tenure here one way or the other.
The only way I see Brees go is if we fail the rest of the season and he wants to leave. But considering our easy remaining schedule against AFC South opponents, we'll likely end up 10-6 at worst - and still not enough for an NFC wildcard :(

BTW Giants looked sharp on offence. JPP can't come back quickly enough if at least to keep opposing offensive linemen wary.
