Come Meet the Giant

The Iron Giant is here!

There's still a few more days to meet the big guy, down at the Jean Cocteau Cinema.

We playing the signature edition of the Brad Bird film -- newly remastered and restored, with two new scenes not included in the original theatrical release -- this afternoon at 4:30, tomorrow at 1:30pm and 8:00 pm, and Thursday at 3:00pm and 7:00pm.

The Giant himself will be at the theatre to welcome patrons to all our shows. And yes, in between movies, you are welcome to have your picture taken with the big guy.

Okay, it's true, our Giant is not as big as the one in the film. And, hey, he's not even the biggest giant in Santa Fe, since Meow Wolf installed their mammoth thirty-footer down at Silva Lanes. But he's taller than YOU are, f'rsure, and he has a lot of personality. We love him.

The Iron Giant was made for us by Fred Barton, the "Robot Man," same dude who made my Robbie. If any of you need a robot, Fred's the guy to see.

Query on Writing Fanfiction
Hey George! I had this doubt for a real long time after I read about your thoughts on fan fictions. You say that you don't like Fanfictions. I am with you and your reasons. But there are writers out there in the comic writing world, who did not create the world, but excelled it. For instance, Frank Miller and Alan Moore did not create the world of Batman, but came with their own brilliant stories on the superhero. The stories by Moore and Miller, can be, in fact, regarded as Fan fictions also. Don't you agree? What is your view?

Re: Query on Writing Fanfiction
You don't know what "fan fiction" means, plainly.

The IPs you refer to are owned by the publishers. Miller, Moore, and everyone else who writes and draws them are authorized to do do, in fact are hired to do that job.

They are not fan fiction as that term is presently used.

Also, this is off topic. We are talking robots here.

I love that movie SO much. I am always a big fan of stories which show that the "other" can be good. Other does not always mean bad, evil, scary, etc. (Except, of course, "The Others".)

Why must you own so many robots, George? Which one is next?

Wow, what a talented man Fred Barton is. I was just browsing his website. His wares are quite a bit out of my financial range but good god if I wouldn't like to have that Cylon Centurion (I've never seen BSG but goddamn that thing is AWESOME looking) or a 3PO or a Robocop or... well, anything he's ever made. His stuff is amazing. If I was a wealthy man I'd try to have him custom make the metal skeleton T-1000. I bet he'd NAIL that.

You're lucky with your Robbie and the Iron Giant there at your theater. I see that Iron Giant isn't even something he sells on his site so that's a unique piece. Very, very cool, George.

So long as we remember to program them with the Three Laws, we're safe.

If we ever make a Modular Man, we must also make a Modular Woman for him too.

Admittedly Off-Topic
Hello again; my sincerest apologies for this question but it's been bugging me for ages; Is Jon Sno---- heheh just kidding. I just wondered; Is Tarth Brienne's second name as well as the place she's from, or does she have a second name you've just not used yet? Or, don't ask 'cos spoilers? Any response would be greatly appreciated, even if it's merely "Stop posting on my site, douche".

Incidentally, The Iron Giant made me cry, and I was an adult when I saw it, granted, a freshly minted adult at 18, but nevertheless...

You seen Star Wars TFA yet? It's wicked, FYI.

Thanks anyhoo

STAR WARS
Warning: the following comment may contain information which some may interpret as spoilers to either Star Wars or A Song of Ice and Fire.

Hi George,

I just wanted to say I seen the new Star Wars movie last night and the saber fight in the snow felt like I was watching the end of A Song of Ice and Fire.

I'm not a fan of the GoT tv show. Actually I hate it (because I've been reading for 12 years and the people who don't know who Rhaegar is, or what Robert's Rebellion was will get their ending first, the content of which will be unavoidable for us readers) but if you must finish it on screen movies are the way to go.

Thanks for the books.

Hey George

Saw an interview where your first work "The Hero" is mentioned.

I was curious if you had read "On Killing" by Grossman. It's pretty much the definitive non-fiction book in that area. I can't say enough good things about it. It's on suggested reading lists for nearly every military academy, and special forces organization. I suggest it.

Thanks for your writing George,
Take it easy

Hey George,

You probably get this a lot, but just wanted to say you're AWESOME. That is all.

Have a nice day.

JETS-GIANTS!
Well, your JETS WON!!!! Knocked Dallas out for good, too. And your other GIANTS are still in it and could win it.

Re: JETS-GIANTS!
Dang. Great comeback, though. Sorry.
Wait a minute. Just saw this. In 2007, the Giants lost to the undefeated Patriots -- 35-38. They then won the Super Bowl against them. In 2011, four years later, they lost to the then unbeaten Green Bay Packers in the 12th game, 35-38. The Packers would go on to lose one game and finish 15-1, and the Giants defeated them in the Divisional Round.
Now, four years later, they lose to another undefeated team, the Carolina Panthers, 35-38. Once every four years losing to unbeaten teams whose team name starts with P by the same score.
Now, that's weird, and would be weirder if they came back to play the Panthers in the playoff and beat them.

Been a long road!
Sire, it's been a long road since I picked up a game of thrones from a buddy to read in what little down time I had between patrols and fighting. I fell in love with them like millions of others. The shows on Hbo are great as well but like most people agree the book is always better and that has been the case for me. I have stuck by and patiently waited and even had your back on here multiple times when fans get after you for not having books out. But I can't stomach the thought of HBO spoiling the books for me by giving me the main plots and leaving only small pieces such as a different character doing something major. I truly hope you manage to get Twow out before hand but more then that I would just like an update. As a loyal fan I don't think that's asking too much because soon I have to decide wether to forgo one of my favorite tv shows to wait for your book and hope someone doesn't spoil it for me which is impossible or ruin the book by watching the show. A simple ballpark update would suffice me sire. Of course your a millionaire and the greatest novelist of our time and you don't have to do so but I do think you owe us your loyal readers something! Thanks for your time. Sgt Caleb H US Army (Ret)
