I wish we were getting snow. I love the snow. Not partially fond of driving in it but I love it.

Cue the millions of fans who will take this post as some sort of hidden message about the Winds of Winter and spend hours trying to decode its meaning.

I've seen quite a few memes about this winter you speak of, but when it comes directly from you... well, that's about as good as it gets.

not here...
You can keep it... any snow we had here in Chicagoland got melted away with the rain this morning.

When do the mothers start smothering their suckling babes? Not enough famine yet?

My boss just returned from Taos skiing. He said there was tons of snow.

I lived in Los Alamos for a few months a few years ago. I miss Northern New Mexico. Its beautiful.

Best days!
Aren't those the best times to write? Or is it no certain circumstances, but whenever the mood hits?

I'm up in Farmington snowing literally all day.

How often do you get snow in Santa Fe? And how bad does it get?
I'm sure you had enough of that living in Chicago. We've had a pretty mild winter, so far, but snow again on Sunday. Get those shovels out!

It's supposed to be quite chilly here in the Dallas area as well, although minus the snow. A perfect excuse for me to settle in with a hot beverage, start reading a new book, and watch some football.

Stay warm!
Wishing you a quiet and pleasant January. Hope the wolves are cozy as well!

(by the way, I've been bonding over my NY sports fan father with all the little references in ASOIAF. You really are the man GRRM)

novel idea
Hi, there -- Would like to add my voice to the chorus of support for taking your time in the release of TWOW. However, I did have one thought that I wanted to share simply for what it's worth: what about an initial release that was similar to what Stephen King did with "The Green Mile"? That was a "serialized" novel released in a few parts, over a period of months. NOW if you go to purchase "The Green Mile," it's all released as one complete novel and history will treat it that way. If I understand correctly, Andy Weir released "The Martian" as serialized chapters on his website before self-publishing the completed book. And of course, you know it's a tradition that goes back to Dickens. If I understand correctly, part of your hesitation to do this may be because of the need for small revisions once the work is fully completed. But that's an issue for the series as a whole, right. And even if it were a necessity, you could certainly still do that in the fully published volume. There's lots of precedent for authors making revisions in definitive final editions, including Professor Tolkien. Most people don't know that the "Riddles in the Dark" chapter in the first edition of The Hobbit isn't the one we know and love. Let me stress that I don't say this to add any sort of pressure. Not my intention at all. Whatever helps you most is the way to go. Period. However, I wonder if this kind of non-traditional release might help alleviate some of the burdens you feel to get the work out there and allow you to have more fun with the writing. Plus, it'd be pretty cool. I adored reading The Green Mile in bits and pieces the first time. It was a little like a TV series -- but as a novel. That kinda makes me think of another certain series... Anyway, all the best to you, George. This was just an idea and it may be a bad one. If so, it is not my intention to offend. Just kicking it around to you.

In Saint-Petersburg (Russia) we have -25 degree C.
Wicked winter really came to us =((

Promise: "spring is coming", pleeeeease)

I've been to Saint-Petersburg during some sunny and warm days in May in 2012 (warm enough to do an evening canal tour wearing a short sleeved blouse), but I would love to visit the town in winter, with the Neva frozen and all.
