Season 6 Is Coming

GAME OF THRONES is coming back. Mark down Sunday, April 24 on your calendars.

HBO has released the first full-length trailer. Here's a taste:

And yes, it's true. After last year's unfortunate leak, HBO is not sending out any press screeners this year, to try and cut down on the piracy.

They have also eliminated all the regional premieres, including (sob) the one we had scheduled at my own Jean Cocteau Cinema. This year the only premiere will be the big one in LA at Grauman's Chinese.

The Jean Cocteau will, however, go ahead with our season 5 marathon. Admission is free, so watch our website and newsletter for show times.

And we'll all just have to wait to see what season 6 has in store.

Can I watch it without spoiling Winds of Winter?
I havr this concern. I know you addresed it already but i still have the concern of how much are we spoiling ourselves winds of winter with season 6? I want to watch it, but only after reading your book... Unless you say it wont affect me. Wether you answer or not thank you George, i love your books and what you do, and i am hoping season 6 is as succesfull as the other ones.

Re: Can I watch it without spoiling Winds of Winter?
There will be spoilers.

If I had finished WINDS as planned...

I did not, however.

It is what it is.

Just wondering :)
Will you be attending the season 6 premiere in LA then?

Re: Just wondering :)

What I wouldn't give to be able to watch season 5 on the big screen. Wish there were more events like that around the world. Perfectly understandable with the screeners although I'm sad to hear about no regional premieres. It should have been possible to do it simultaneously all over the world. I mean, we're enough fools with stark shirts, greyjoy krakens and the like who would show up at any time of the day or night. :)

Good trailer
This trailer makes me so hyped. There are so many parts of the story I can't wait to see continue. Hurry up, April 24th!

I'm also glad HBO isn't sending out any episodes to the press. Ser Barristan's death was spoiled for me because somebody uploaded that clip to Youtube with it being titled "Grey Worm and Barristan Selmy's deaths" or something similar. This was a good move by HBO.

Not watching this season
I for one will wait for the book at this point. I like the show but I started as a reader and I cannot watch this show without reading it first. I wish it wasn't so but I am left with no other choice.

And if I may ask, have you had the chance to pen a script for one of the episodes?

Will you read a new chapter from Winds before 24 th April?
Mar. 9th, 2016 08:20 pm (UTC)
I am not going to any more cons between now and April 24, so no.

My next reading will be at Balticon, in late May. Baltimore, MD.

Hey George, I know WINDS wont come out before season 6, but is there a chance that A Dream of Spring will beat the last season of the show? :)
Mar. 9th, 2016 08:18 pm (UTC)
If the show runs ten seasons, maybe.

Yara Greyjoy in the trailer
A quick question, ser, which has stirred some debate: it seems that Yara is the one kissing a whore in the trailer. Book-Asha is indeed sexually active and adventurous. Is book-Asha bisexual and you just haven't mentioned it directly? (was it implied?) --- other theory is that she's just messing around to get some men excited -- similar to how she messed around with Theon by pretending she didn't know he was her brother and let him feel her up.

I ask because over on the GOT Wiki's "in the books" section or in the trailer description we posted I've written these speculations out, but if it was simply clarified "Martin directly stated Asha's sexually interested in both men and women, it just wasn't overtly stated in the text" that would resolve all of this quickly.

P.S. I sure hope they explain the absence of the Pink Letter and how they can possibly explain the plot logic of having the mutiny due to letting wildlings through the Wall....*after* letting them through the Wall in the first place. But I digress.

Some flashbacks in the trailer as well, which we'd been hoping for in past seasons: we looked for these men at the Trident, but they weren't there.

Re: Yara Greyjoy in the trailer
I have a number of lesbian and bisexual women in the novels (and a couple who experiment), but Asha is not one of them. Unless I am forgetting something...

I choose violence.
Totally bad ass.

Do you know if Lady Stoneheart will appear in this season?? Please, spoil me a little. I can keep a secret :)

I love both books and the show but offcourse I have been fan of GOT since the 90s and waited every single day for new book to come out and well show is nothing like the book I still love to watch it because it is a good TV show
compare to many other things on TV.
Now season 6 is coming and I am so confused right now, should I watch it or wait for the books, I know the book is going to be great as great as I expect it to be like all the other books no matter if I watch the show or not but still somewhere I dont want show to spoil anything for me....

I think I might wait untill the end of the year for books to show up and watch the show after reading the Winds...

I just want to thank you for creating something so amazing for us
and I am really relieved that you are doing fine because when i read George Martin news today, it gave me a small heart attack :D :D, we all want you to stick around for a long time so not only me but my kids and their kids can enjoy your future work just like we enjoy yours right now.

I tasted, and it's pretty damn good, lol. I think that HBO taking all these extra precautions is a good idea, and real fans who appreciate the time and talent and funds that go into the making of each season understand the necessity for secrecy, especially given where we are in the story. My only hope is that you yourself are happy with the quality of the adaptation your beloved work this year. I just read the series through for the first time and while I deeply enjoy seeing many parts played out on screen in such a magnificent manner, I have definately come to love and appreciate the entirety of the story through your words. The show and books are like two separate entities that compliment each other. As they say, "what a time to be alive" lol.

It's a shame that it won't get to screen at the Cocteau; even though I'm of the East it would have been nice! Have you at least gotten to see any of Season 6 for yourself? Or will you be watching unsullied with the rest of us?
Mar. 9th, 2016 09:09 pm (UTC)
Thank you, we are all wicked excited to see whats in store for Jon.
