September Morn

Can it really be September? What the hell happened to August?

Oh, I remember... a week of meetings in LA, a week at worldcon, Bubonicon, house guests and visitors, business meetings... damn...

I wanted to blog about worldcon and the Hugo Awards and the Alfies and an EPIC Hugo Losers Party and the presidential election and HIGH STAKES and a very special week we have planned at the Jean Cocteau and lots of other stuff, and maybe I still will in the days to come, but right at the moment I am too tired. Some of that stuff already seems like ages ago. And I have lots to catch up on.

But it's been a while, so I thought I should at least say hi, and wave, and let everyone know that I'm still here, back at the old homestead and back at work.

Also, I wanted to give a shout out to Ogre Jenni, who, alas, has left the Jean Cocteau and Fevre River to accept a full-time teaching job. That's great news for Jenni, and all the kids that she will be teaching in the years to come, but sad news for us. Jenni was terrific, a wonderful member of our crew here, and we miss her lots already. At least she is still in town, so we will get to see her socially from time to time. Fly high, Higginbotham!

WorldCon
Enjoyed the Wild Cards panel and signing and really enjoyed the Hugo Loser's Party. I went to a few movies at the Midland back in the 70's and it was a great place to hold the party. Thanks for acknowledging the people that you awarded Alfies to.

Higginbotham!
Just got back home from our Higginbotham family reunion! I wonder if there's any (distant) relation hah.

Anyway, welcome home George. Glad to hear you had a good time away.

Time passes by so fast, that's true....
Yesterday, while going for a walk with my 4 kids, we noticed that the leaves started to change color and that the air simply smells like autumn. I love fall, but well, summer passed by so fast.
I am always happy too read your blog entries and yes, I missed them and so I am happy about this short "hello" :) I hope that you are sleeping well and wish you a wionderful start into the weekend.

Welcome home!
Hey George!

Thanks for the check-in. I was just thinking a couple of days ago that I missed hearing from you. I hope KC treated you well. It's my original hometown, and I've always loved hearing your positive feelings toward the place. Hope they're still intact! So please, get some rest and then let us hear all about it.

Well wishes to Orge Jenni in her new endeavor. I, for one, will miss her funny posts, but I'm glad to hear this is a good move for her. Bon chance!!

Bubonicon!
George,

I had a quick 30 second chat with you at Bubonicon without anyone else present really (I had asked you about being mobbed at Comic Con and you gave me a funny anecdote), and it felt nice to be able to have a normal interaction without the pressures of a large crowd or the media. We appreciate your yearly presence and hope you enjoy toned-down feel our quirky little con. It's always nice to attend your readings!

Cheers!
Hope you are doing well! What is your favorite part of the Fall season? I'd have to say mine is Holloween, though it's more than a month away.

Take care!

September is the best time of the year. Its Autumn (fall) its harvest time, the colours on the leaves start to change you can smell the seasonal change in the air and the nights begin to get darker earlier :D its a good time for staying indoors getting cozy reading or writing.x

RE: rest easy
This is probably not the best forum to ask for advice about dealing with anxiety and depression. As both a physician and as someone with a history of depression, I would strongly advise you to see a mental health professional. I would suggest starting with a psychiatrist (who is someone with an MD and can prescribe medications) and then asking for a referral to an appropriate psychologist (who is usually a PhD and who probably specializes in treating a small subset of mental health issues) for therapy. You often have to try several different avenues of treatment until you find the one that works for you, so try not to be too disappointed if your first attempt at treatment doesn't seem to help.

Screw August
It has been so damn humid in the northeast. Bring on autumn with the 50 degree nights, football on Sundays, hiking without being bitten by mosquitos, overdosing on artificial pumpkin flavoring...

I always prefer the cold over the heat. My only complaint when it comes to the cold--this is completely genuine too-- is when it's gusty winds and freezing temperatures. So yes, I too agonize about the experience of the winds of winter.

Disappearing August
Yeah, same thing here, August was a relentless flurry of events.

I remembered today I have short story to finish, I knew I hammered most of it and let it rest a day or two while I go on about other business. Today I saw it was last written on 29th July and "day or two" was somehow transformed to a month.

Here's to calm and peaceful September.
