Bundling the Wild Cards

Haven't tried Wild Cards yet?

Well, here's your chance.

Tor Books is doing a special ebook bundle of the first five volumes of Wild Cards. (Including the new editions of volumes one and four, with five additional stories).

The whole bundle is available for only $39.99, starting today, from

Here's your chance to find out who Gregg Hartmann is, meet Dr. Tachyon and the Four Aces, ride with Jetboy on his last flight, go into action with the Great and Powerful Turtle, hang with Fortunato and hunt with Yeoman. Can't beat that.

Once you've read the first five books, of course, you'll be reaching for volume six, ACE IN THE HOLE. We've got good news on that front as well. Tor will be releasing the long-awaited reissue on February 28, in trade paperback. With another stunning cover from Michael Komarck.

Fly high, aces!

Would like to ask a question and it has nothing to do with game of thrones :)
Wild cards looks awesome, I'm tempted to read them.
Tho I like more medieval books. (Yours being my favourite)

After game of thrones, do you ever think you would do a Medieval fantasy/ Or Medieval story again.
Or even better question would you like to do another series based on this genre?

Re: Books
I will likely write more stories set in the world of Westeros after ICE & FIRE. Dunk and Egg, for starts.

Will I ever attempt another seven-book megaseries set in an entirely different fantasy world? Unlikely.

I have other stories I want to tell too. SF as well as fantasy. More Wild Cards, more Thousand Worlds.

Add to the list.
While I am halfway through my first read through of the 13 book epic that is wheel of time, I do believe I will be picking these up and adding to my ever growing queue.

I am still on book four and I lost this week dispute between Trump and fictional characters, to which, I would cast my vote for Hartmann for reasons too long to explain, but I'll try to make it short. He is a career politician that although DOES have split personality disorder or schizophrenia or whatever you would like to call the reasons for his murderous urges, he does have best intention for others (Jokers included), sure, one might say it's a political move to win votes, but most (or all) politicians will do that along their career. The problem would be if Hartmann ended up using his powers to keep himself in power indefinitely, which I don't think he would (as I said, I only finished Aces Abroad, so I don't know if later it would show with the hints of a dictator).
Anyway, Wild Cards has been my favorite super-hero universe since I read about it GURPS Supers back in the 90s (and in Brazil that was my only source of the whole universe until imported books became more common and two years ago they started translating them).

$45.95 if bought separately so a 13% discount. The bundle doesn't have page numbers or x-ray or separate covers.

Oh man, you aren't kidding about it being a stunning cover. Komarck knocked this one out of the park.

Wild Cards books 8-15 for Kindle?
Hi George,
I started reading Wild Cards on my Kindle quite recently and I love it. Started with volume 1 and worked my way to Dead Man's Hand (vol 7), but now encountered a problem- for some reason, there's no eBook versions of volumes 8-15 (at least none that I could find); the next one on store is Deuces Down (vol 16). do you know why? any chance these books will be published in eBook version anytime soon?
what would you recommend- skipping to Inside Straight and coming back to the ones I missed once they're available/I get an actual (primitive) paper copy? or reading Deuces Down and Death Draws Five, which are on store?

Re: Wild Cards books 8-15 for Kindle?
We hope to do more reissues with Tor, and that would mean more ebook versions as well. But nothing is presently under contract.

Orion, our UK publisher, has been doing reissues of the older books as well, and they got a few books further on... but I don't know off hand if those were available as ebooks. You might want to check Amazon.UK

That is tempting, just to get them in ebook format. (My current copies are original paperbacks, and are showing the wear of multiple moves and readings.)

Give that man a RAISE!
That cover is spectacular! I've only read story from Wild Cards(the excerpt from Dreamsongs). But each time I see those amazing covers I feel like I should invest time into that series. That new cover just grabs your attention, definitely will help book sales.

Wild Cards "special edition"
I don't think you have any power on that but I started reading Wild Cards in the French edition by "J'ai lu", and to my surprise the ink diden't stick to the pages and I have now a Wild Card example full of my fingerprints and less words in it.
Note that I'm not complaining, I love having special books, and altough I would get one clean and dry for free if I'd give back mine, there's no way I'd get rid of it.
That book will ever stay alongside my Glen Cook's Black Company where it took me several years and an another example to find out that the couple pages I thought was missing was in fact TWO CHAPTERS...
Same editor...
In my opinion a bad edition is better than none but in this case they went for such a cheap ink (I guess) that it may very well impact negatively on Wild Cards, for 10 euros it would not be an issue but for 20 euros they are bad cooks destroying a good recipe.
But again, I understand that you may not have any power in that matter.

Anyway, due to translation times, I must thank you again, the wait for ASOIAF to get translated got me to read in English (wich I did but it was a pain) and, being ahead of the Wild Cards one, I bought an english version knowing that I'll be able to enjoy it.
You're currently the only writers I care enough to read in english ( others I can find in French and I'm lazy) but I'm planning to read Shakespeare one day and if I do it will all be thanks to you, so there's that.

Salut et merci pour le poisson!

Hello, George.

I wanted to sit with you some afternoon, drink some beers and talk for an hour or two about the universe you created.

How could I do that?

All the best.

Re: Drink
An hour or two? Unlikely.

Best chance would be to come to a worldcon. This year's is in Helsinki.

Hi, George
I have a question to ask. Have you ever considered doing a tour to smaller countries?
Here in Serbia, you have large base of admirers and readers. We have few cons and festivals a year dedicated to books, medieval thematics, science fiction, and more. The biggest of those is "Sajam knjiga" or Book festival with over of 188.500 visitors. But it might be better for some smaller like Epic Fantasy festival. Consider it if you have time.
Cheers, all the best to you.
P.s. i apologize for any gramatical errors, english is not my mother tongue.

Seven blessing to you George! With Son of Kong nearing some semblance of completion, or maybe not, have you begun to craft a code name for A Dream of Spring?

Been a huge fan of Wild Cards for years (I discovered the first volume in my middle school library and got immediately hooked). I never did get to read Aces Abroad. Looking forward to reading these again and for the first time! I can't wait for the Wild Cards TV show!

Is the TV show really confirmed? Or is it still in (pre-)production hell?

Fort Freak
I just found FORT FREAK in my library. I was looking for any Wild Cards book to dip my toe into the series. Is this one a good way to try Wild Cards universe?

Somewhat off topic
I know how much you love off topic posts but I read that post about you having more SF stories to tell and I can't help it.

Man, I'd love to read more science fiction from you before you retire. I know this Ice and Fire thing is kind of big and unfinished (were you aware of that?) but you have written some truly amazing sci fi in your day. I feel like you've gotten better with age. More patient, perhaps, but whatever the reason, I'd love to see a modern sci fi story from you.

This makes me want to re-read Nightflyers but I don't think I still have my copy of that short story collection you released ages ago. I think A Song for Lya was in there, too. Nightflyers was the centerpiece for me, though. That Ridley Scott feel to it was just awesome. I remember being legitimately scared shitless for the crew. The atmosphere you built there was terrific. The ending is legendary.

It'd be a damn shame if you don't get at least one more short story out of your abilities in that genre. I know 90% of your fans would FREAK out (and I mean that in a true sense) if you did this, but I wouldn't mind if you pulled a Stephen King and wrote something else for awhile after Winds. It was never as big as your series, but it was never all Dark Tower, all the time for him. Same with Glen Cook, it wasn't The Black Company constantly. It kind of sucks that's the hand you've been dealt. I'd love to see you explore some of the ideas you're bound to have going on. Some of them are most likely great...

Well, whatever... just rambling. Sorry about that. Love that cover. I just got my first Kindle for Christmas so I'll make sure to pick this up. Have a good 2017, George.

PS: Sorry about football but being a Cleveland fan, fuck football.

Any chance of a similar deal for Google Books? I'm more fond of them than of Amazon.

Thanks! Big fan of the Wild Cards.

Are there any plans to continue the series in audiobook? I've listened to the first five, and I'm a big fan of the mosaic cast productions.

This is the dwarf from Rogue One that I think was an homage to you as Tyrion is the inspiration. His name is Weeteef and he has no nose. Warwick Davis played him. He also has Tywin-esque side whiskers.

Wildcards are amazing!
Perfect as something I read as a change of pace from Marvel. Also, another great thing is they are cheaper than new comics. To be honest the hobby of buying comic books is much more expensive than when I was a kid.

I enjoy writing Novellas George, they are easier to get out, the stories don't suffer based on length and I have more fun writing them. These last few novels I wrote were just a grind from hell. Love the world, characters, and ideas of course. I'd really like to see a Novella series from you based on the horror story you wanted to write. Could that happen?

Hey if you haven't changed out the show Travelers on Netflix? You should. I think you would like it.

Finished rereading my decades-only copy of Ace in the Hole around election time. Still a stunningly good book. As I told my friends, "It's about a bigot and a sociopath running for president — but back in 1988 they were two different people."

That's a stunning new cover.

Hello from a crazed fan of GoT, ASOIAF,......and the Dallas Cowboys. The only game I have ever been to was actually against your Giants at the 2013 season opener on Sunday Night Football. It was an experience I'll treasure forever.

I love the show and though I am fairly new to the books (currently reading A Storm of Swords), I find them to be unlike anything I've read before. My question is, if the Cowboys win the Super Bowl, could I convince you to send me an autograph?

Hi; do you turn off comments at a certain point? I only just noticed the Underwood winning post with the killer presidents question and had wanted to respond. I'm not going to here cos we're not in 'Nam, there are rules, am I the only one who gives a shit about the rules?! (Big Lebowski reference). Maybe it's a dumb question, I just wondered if it was automatic. Ta duck x
(I'm from Sheffield, that's just how we talk, translates to "Thanks friend". Maybe I should've just said that)

Re: Comments
I do turn off comments at a certain point. No hard and fast rule, it's sometimes when the discussion when tapered off, or when everything that needed saying has been said. Sometimes it's just because new posts have gone up. Before I started doing that, I would sometimes get stray comments on posts that were a year or two old.
