J - E - T - S, Jets Jets JETS!!!

Spain
Sorry, Stego. (But only a little).

My heart stopped several times this evening.

What a game.

I hate the prevent defense. Hate it, hate it, hate it. But that was a sensational catch by Randy Moss. Though the Jets should have jammed him, as they'd been doing all game.

Where the hell do the Patriots keep getting these great quarterbacks? Matt Cassel was amazing, I have to say. Four-year college benchwarmer, hasn't played since high school, but he gets better every game, and tonight he looked like the reincarnation of Johnny Unitas. And he was what, a seventh round draft choice? And Brady was a sixth rounder? Scott Pioli has an amazing eye for quarterbacks. The Jets back-up is Kellen Clemens, a second round choice and a major college star, but in the NFL so far he has been less than ordinary. Let's just hope that Brett Favre never goes down.

Much as I despise him, Evil Little Bill is still a great coach. Just when it looked as though the Jets were going to blow the P-men out on their own home field, BB goes to a no-huddle offense, and exhausts Gang Green's gigantic man in the middle, Kris Jenkins, negating our most effective defensive player. No one else thought of that, all season. Fortunately for truth, justice, and the American way, Jenkins was able to find a hidden reserve of strength in the fourth quarter, when it counted, but... I may despise Belichek, but I never make the mistake of underestimating him.

But enough props to the Patriots. The Jets won. Finally. When Moss caught that TD with one second left, I felt like a dagger had been thrust through me, and the words "Same Old Jets" came inevitably to mind. It felt like we'd already lost. These were the Patriots, after all. Even when we won the overtime coin toss, things looked grim... especially after the first two plays, when the Jets faced third-and-fifteen.

Then Brett threw that rope to Dustin Keller, and the world changed.

Favre was... well, Favre was Favre. He's done it before, he'll do it again. Jericho Cotchery had that astonishing catch, snatching the ball out of the air in the crook of his elbow while falling forward with a defender draped all over him. Leon Washington returned a kickoff for a TD. But Dustin Keller was the one who really made me sit up. It looks as though the Jets knew what they were doing when they traded up into the end of the first round to get him (and a good thing, since their other first round pick, number four overall Vernon Gholston, shows every sign of being a bust). Tannenbaum and Mangini struck gold with Keller, I think. We have our tight end for the next decade.

Anyway... great game, great win, and I'm a happy boy.

Life is magical and full of joy.

Please say you're using idiom. Eat your veges.
But I'm glad you had fun..

I was waiting for this post, cause I wanted someone to jump for joy with.

What an outstanding game, today is the first day that I really loved seeing Farve in that uniform.

I'll let his terror of taking a hit slide this game, some of those passes put a smile on my soul.

Don,t know much about American Football but it's great to be able to come up with yet more bad GRRM book title jokes.

Sounds like a game I wish I could see. Maybe I'll get lucky and Eurosports will choose it for the game they show each week.

Chose an evening with Bond myself, but I'm glad that the Jets took this one. Hopefully my heart will be stopping for all the right reasons come Sunday.

And my Packers let him leave for that idiot Aaron Douglas (who has potential but is not yet there) glad you are enjoying Brett, and the bonus? He can defend his legacy quite well..

Packers defense
I will state in the Packers defense, they had to let Brett go. They couldn't keep jerking Rodgers around while Brett was trying to decide what he wanted.

I'm a Patriots fan, but I need to agree with you: that was one incredible game. Congrats to the Jets for being the last team in this one to pull out the plays they needed to win. A terrific effort by both teams but only one team can win. Hopefully, we'll get to see these teams play again in the post-season.

I have to tell you, I'm the biggest Patriots fan there is, but that doesn't mean that wasn't an INCREDIBLE game.

The Jets deserved to win.

Congrats on your first place team!

It must be nice to have the NFL Network. I had to settle for reruns of Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab on VH1 last night.

I lack any decent cable as well, so it was Underworld for me last night on TBS. I wonder if there was a football game between vamps and weres, who would win?

Football OT is so Annoying!!!
I'll agree, that was a great game. But come on, the defensive holding call against Mike Vrabel after the Pats stopped the Jets within the 10 in the last quarter was total BS. It's just sad that even the announcer can say that he saw no hold there, yet the referee still chose to make a game-changing call like that. And then the game goes into OT, which even if the Pats had won the game, I would still be complaining about. Football OT is so ridiculously unfair that I'm surprised it is still handled the way it is. A coin toss basically determines the game, not the skill of the teams. It's just sad that after such an awesome game like last night, we had to have a coin toss give one team the ball and the game end on a field goal. Give both teams a chance to score! Do what college football does or make up some other rule that will get rid of this horribly unfair and archaic way of winning a game in OT. Sorry to be so negative, the game was one of the most fun games of football I've seen in a while. And I have to give credit to the Ancient One Brett Favre for not making any stupid mistakes. But come on GRRM, Cassell was no Unitas. He missed Moss twice on a wide open long ball that would have both been good for TDs, and he missed some other crucial passes that should have been made. He was sharp in the fourth though, I'll give him that.

Re: Football OT is so Annoying!!!
C'mn, he passed for 400 yards and ran for 60. The first QB in the entire history of the NFL to do that. Pretty good in my book.

I like the sudden death rules. The coin toss is important, but it shouldn't determine the outcome of the game. All of you need to do is STOP THE OTHER TEAM. As a fan of defense, I like that. The Patriots almost did it last night, stuffing Jones on first down and sacking Brett on the second. The game-changer was that 3rd and 15 play. The Patriots tackle Keller a yard further back, the Jets have to punt, and the Patriots get the ball with great field position.

Games like that are why we splurged to get NFL network! I grew up a Giants fan, but unlike the Mets/Yankees thing, you can actually enjoy the other team w/o feeling like a traitor. I'd love to see a Subway Superbowl! (even tho they play in NJ) It'd be awesome if they'd actually play it in Giants stadium. That would be glorious!

Oh, and BB is the spawn of the devil, but is a damn good coach, unfortunately.

If they had opted to put a dome on the new stadium then we might have actually gotten a SuperBowl here in the NY Metro area someday. But alas, in any northern city, no dome means no Bowl.

Give Verno a chance
GRRM, give Golsten a chance he's only a rookie. Remember when everyone was saying Houston blew it by taking DE Mario Williams over Reggie Bush when his rookie year didn't go so well?

Now, Bush is out for the season and Mario is one of the best Defensive lineman in the country.

Vernon is leaning the system, he'll be a good one, trust me. Ok so I'm a biaed Buckeye Fan, but hey, the man's a beast.

Wow...
The Jets finally beat the Pats, the Giants continue to dominate, Obama likes Spider-man comics, AND HBO is ready to start filming your show. Is there anything else that needs to happen to make this the best week ever for you, George?

I have to disagree about Matt Cassel being amazing. Good, no doubt, but nowhere near Brady. They showed some ridiculous stat about how Brady completed something like 54 20+ yard throws last year, and Cassel hadn't completed *one* in his last four games. And it's obvious if you watched last night's game. One deep bomb to Moss, he threw it to the outside when Moss was slightly cutting to midfield. Another time Randy drew one-on-one coverage and raised his hand. Cassel could have thrown a laser just to the outside of Moss (or heck, he could have lobbed an "up-for-grabs" ball that Moss probably would have pulled down), instead he threw it way high to the back of the end zone and complained to the refs that there was contact even when it was uncatchable (there was only minimal contact).

It's quite amazing, I think, that without Brady the Patriots could go 8-8 when with him I'd expect no less than 14 wins. They've only been blown out in two games (Miami and San Diego), and you know damn well that they would have been in those games with Brady. I enjoy watching Brady tear apart defenses, but at the same time, the door is now WIDE open for any team to win the Super Bowl.

But anyways, I'd take Matt Cassel over Gus Frerotte in a HEARTBEAT. My poor, poor Vikings :(

I think QB's who are outstanding in college may not have learned the right work skills to succeed in the pros. Their talent carries them along.

Where as the benchwarmers and small college QB's have learned that they have to work hard for success.

I don't get it
Ok I'll admit I'm not a football fan, So I'll get to the point, do we have to wait until the end of the football season for any progress to be made on the next book you're working on?
That being asked, I know we all have our vices, and you'll probably do what you like to do until the inspiration comes, in the meantime can you change the sample? I've read the Jon Snow one and the Tyrion one, how about the Danyrys one? I seemed to have missed that and The Tyrion preview although good has been up there all summer.
So lets get a touch down for the Dragon Princess! Go Jon Snow! Hang in there Tyrion!

When it comes to the Jets, there is NEVER a time when you can go to sleep confident that they "have" the game. Unless the final whistle has already blown.

I was really glad to have Farve on my fantasy league team last night. Amazing game!
That kick return for the TD was a beautiful thing too.
